Chapter 237 I'll Be Waiting for You at Home
Elizabeth trembled as she asked Owen, "Mr. Tudor, can you take me to see Samuel?"
Her pleading look made her male colleagues feel her intense anxiety and pity, as if she had lost her closest family member. They could deeply understand Elizabeth.
They hadn't seen any inappropriate behavior between Elizabeth and Owen.
What they saw was Elizabeth searching for her family. Such a family-oriented Elizabeth was impossible to dislike.
Owen nodded, replying, "Yes, I'll take you right now!"
Elizabeth followed Owen out. In her haste, she didn't inform Anna and left quickly. As soon as she left the design department, the male colleagues started talking.
"I find you women just like to stir up trouble!"
"Do you know why you don't have the same advantages as us men in architecture? It's because you don't focus on design and spend all day gossiping!"
"Aren't you tired? Half a month ago, you kept talking about Mr. Windsor bringing a woman back from a remote area. So what? You've talked about it for days, but have you seen her? Do you know her name? You know nothing and just follow the rumors all day long! Finally, an experienced Elizabeth comes to the company, and instead of learning from her, you shift your gossip to her and spread rumors! I'm really fed up with you!"
The male colleagues had been displeased with the female colleagues' constant troublemaking for Elizabeth. They could see that Elizabeth didn't provoke trouble but wasn't a pushover either.
The gossiping female colleagues were no match for Elizabeth.
Yet, they continued their idle talk.
It was laughable.
A group of women, including Linda, were left speechless by the male colleagues. They were angry but couldn't refute because the men made valid points.
The design department office temporarily quieted down.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth had followed Owen out and got into his car, heading to the orthopedic hospital. The male doctor there hadn't finished his shift yet. When Elizabeth saw the doctor, her hands trembled with excitement.
She tried to control herself and waited until the doctor called, "Next."
Elizabeth rushed in immediately.
The doctor was startled at first, then saw a girl with a bitter yet sweet face, asking gently, "Miss, what's wrong?"
Elizabeth, with tears in her eyes, asked, "Can you tell me where you saw Samuel? Can you take me to him?"
The doctor replied, "Miss, you must be mistaken."
Elizabeth urgently said, "No, doctor, please tell me where that advanced orthopedic and neurology hospital is. You said you saw him there. Is he okay?"
The doctor remained silent.
Just as he was about to drive Elizabeth out, Owen came in.
He reluctantly explained what he had heard the previous day. The doctor was initially stunned, then blushed.
After all, as a doctor, he was supposed to maintain a professional image.
But his personal life had been overheard by Owen.
"Rest assured, we won't say anything. We swear on our honor that every kind of love is worthy of respect. We just want to know if our relative is okay," Owen said sincerely.
The doctor finally sighed and said, "It's a hospital abroad, a very advanced one jointly established by several countries. I only interned there for a week. I wanted to stay and work, but I wasn't qualified enough, so I wasn't accepted. However, I did see a young man with paralyzed lower limbs and nerve damage. After surgery, he could slowly walk by holding onto the wall, though unsteadily. He needs about two years of rehabilitation."
"Where is that hospital?" Elizabeth immediately asked.
He shook his head, replying, "It's confidential within the medical community because it's not yet widely promoted. I can only tell you that the young man is very fortunate. He will be able to walk. That's all I can say."
Elizabeth wanted to ask more.
He became agitated and said, "I was drunk last night and told my partner about this out of frustration. I didn't expect anyone to overhear. Otherwise, I wouldn't have told you anything today. What I've told you already goes against my principles. Please don't hinder my work, okay?"
"Okay, sir, thank you! We won't disturb you anymore." Owen apologized repeatedly, then pulled Elizabeth out of the hospital.
Elizabeth was still very excited.
"Samuel is alive, and he can walk. Is this true?" She kept asking Owen repeatedly.
Owen had mixed feelings.
To say he wasn't jealous of Samuel would be a lie.
Originally, he had the best chance to marry Elizabeth and spend his life with her. Elizabeth was so self-reliant, independent, calm, and loyal.
But he had missed his chance.
And he had always lived in Elizabeth's heart. She cared so much about Samuel's life and death, feeling so much for him, and considering him her closest family. Even if she didn't love him romantically, just the familial bond was enough to make Owen envious and jealous.
However, what could Owen do about it?
The only thing he could do now was to comfort Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, the hospital has its rules, but as long as you know Samuel is alive and can walk, that's the best news, isn't it? Since the hospital has its regulations, we shouldn't break them. Let's go back."
Elizabeth thought for a moment and nodded.
She was good at controlling her emotions. Owen was right; the hospital must have its rules, but as long as Samuel was alive, that was the best news.
Samuel is alive?
He can walk again?
Elizabeth thought of Alexander.
That afternoon, she didn't wait for Alexander at the company entrance or pick up Alice. Instead, she went home early and called Alexander.
Alexander answered quickly, Elizabeth immediately said, "I'm waiting for you at home."
