Chapter 253 The Woman Who Doesn't Know Her Place
Elizabeth shielded Julia behind her and gave a sorrowful smile. "Go ahead and hit me. As long as it makes you happy, that's all that matters. No matter who comes to save me, I won't run. Do it."
After saying that, she closed her eyes, waiting for Linda to strike her.
Hearing Elizabeth's words, many people in the office couldn't help but sigh.
In the office, it was normal to have some grudges, which was part of office politics. But it would be too cruel to disfigure Elizabeth's face in such an altercation.
Many people were already fed up with Linda.
Some even left quietly, unwilling to witness such a cruel scene.
However, the malice in Linda's heart only grew. She hated that Robert liked Elizabeth the moment she arrived, hated that Elizabeth saw the mistake in her design but didn't tell her, and hated that Elizabeth extorted $100,000 from her. Most of all, she hated that Elizabeth, a bumpkin, a female prisoner, a woman captured by Alexander, dared to act superior to her!
Disfiguring someone's face was indeed harsh, but Linda thought that if she hit Elizabeth, she could gain favor with Molly. Maybe Molly would introduce her to the wealthy circle, and perhaps those rich people would be waiting for Linda to choose from. Maybe even Alexander from Sunwillow City would appreciate her.
After all, hitting Elizabeth could be seen as punishing the female prisoner for Alexander.
With these thoughts, Linda raised the worn-out shoe and struck Elizabeth's face without hesitation.
"No!" Julia cried out from behind.
But Elizabeth held Julia's hand tightly behind her.
Elizabeth's face immediately felt a burning pain, swelling rapidly like a steamed bun. The pain made her ears ring, with blood trickling from the corner of her mouth.
The blow was vicious.
Everyone present fell silent.
Only Molly watched with satisfaction, a smug smile on her face. "Elizabeth, it's a shame there's no mirror here. If there was, you'd see how your face looks now. I've seen big faces, but never one like yours. One cheek is sunken in, and the other is swollen. My God, you look like a freak! This is so much fun! Linda, keep hitting her. Don't hit the good side of her face, hit the bad side. I want to take a picture later; I find this even more entertaining."
Elizabeth remained silent.
She gritted her teeth against the pain, her brows tightly furrowing.
Without Molly saying it, Elizabeth knew she must look hideous now.
She closed her eyes, bracing for the next wave of pain. Elizabeth's heart felt like it was bleeding. In less than five hits, her face would probably be a bloody mess.
Tears fell from Elizabeth's eyes, landing on her face, adding to the pain.
Linda, with a sinister expression, raised the shoe again towards Elizabeth.
"Stop!" A stern voice came from the doorway. Linda thought it was another man from the company trying to play hero. Without looking, she arrogantly said, "Which loser is trying to play hero now? Sorry, Elizabeth is no longer a beauty, and her face looks like a pig's head."
Before Linda could finish laughing, a pair of shiny handcuffs suddenly appeared on her wrist holding the shoe.
Linda fell silent.
After a moment, she screamed, "Sir, why are you here? Don't arrest me. You should arrest Elizabeth; she's the homewrecker, a prisoner who escaped from jail, a fraud with fake credentials, she..."
The police officer said coldly, "No matter what this lady has done, it's not your place to hit her. Publicly assaulting someone in the office is against the law. Come with us!"
With that, the police took Linda away. Because she resisted, her wrist was cut by the handcuffs. But at this moment, she didn't care about the pain, only shouting desperately, "Miss Lavien, save me! You told me to hit Elizabeth."
Molly coldly replied, "Useless!"
She watched as the police took Linda away without saying a word in her defense. After Linda was taken away, Molly even questioned, "Who called the police? If I find out, you'll regret it!"
Anthony, Kieran, and Aaron had all called the police.
But at this moment, none of them spoke, knowing they couldn't change Elizabeth's fate but hoping to help her temporarily.
Anna stepped in to mediate, "Miss Lavien, I think this is good enough. Elizabeth has offended you, and she's been punished. You've vented your anger. Let's leave it at that. If this escalates, Linda might implicate you with the police, which wouldn't be good, right?"
Anna just wanted to prevent the situation from worsening.
At least not in the design department.
Molly thought for a moment and said, "You're right. Let's do that."
With that, she swayed her hips and left leisurely.
Behind her, there were sighs of relief.
"The Lavien Family is a symbol of power in Pariz. Miss Lavien's father holds a significant position. No one in Pariz or Sunwillow City dares to offend the Lavien Family. No wonder Miss Lavien is so arrogant here."
"That was terrifying. Elizabeth's face was horrifying. Thinking about it, Elizabeth didn't do anything too extreme."
"Poor thing."
"Who knows what will happen to Elizabeth at the police station."
At this moment, Elizabeth was at the police station giving a statement. A female officer handed her an ice pack. Across from her, Linda sat in handcuffs.
"What happened? Why did you publicly assault someone?" the officer questioned Linda.
Linda glared at Elizabeth. Knowing that Molly had dirt on Elizabeth and that Elizabeth was a prisoner captured by Alexander, Linda wasn't afraid even though she was handcuffed, sneering, "Elizabeth was in the wrong first. I hit her out of anger and self-defense. Ask her! Did she do something wrong first? Does she dare deny it?"
Linda looked at Elizabeth, her tone so arrogant that one might think she was the police officer, "Elizabeth, tell the police the truth! Tell them why I hit you! Wasn't it your fault? Say it!"
The officer looked at Elizabeth, asking, "Why did she hit you? Tell us the truth so we can seek justice for you."
Elizabeth was about to speak when her phone suddenly rang, picking it up and answering, "Hello."
