Chapter 321 What You Can't Have Is the Best
The HR department's tone was rather troubled, "Ms. Spencer, you better come up and take a look yourself."
Elizabeth replied, "Okay."
She had a hunch that trouble was brewing again.
After taking a deep breath, she got up and walked out.
Behind her, several colleagues called out to her.
"Elizabeth, be careful."
"Elizabeth, do you want me to go up with you? If anyone dares to bully you or give you trouble, our entire design department will stand against them!"
Over the past week, the design department had gotten along well with Elizabeth.
They found that without Linda causing trouble and without those few troublemakers, the atmosphere in the design department was great. Most importantly, Elizabeth was very easy to get along with. People who didn't know her well thought she was aloof, but she wasn't at all. She was the kind of person who would do anything silently if they just asked her.
She was the kind of person who was happy when everyone else was happy.
Later, as her colleagues got to know her better, they asked her why she was so selfless.
Elizabeth said, "I'm not entirely selfless. Who's selfless these days? I've always longed to make friends since I was a child. My family was poor when I was young, my dad died early, and many kids looked down on me and wouldn't play with me. When I was twelve, I came to the Guise Family and saw Clara making friends while I was always alone. I've always longed to make friends. But just as I started my sophomore year, I was arrested and imprisoned. At that time, I didn't even have friends; even my roommate wouldn't contact me. I really didn't have many friends. So I've always longed for friends. I cherish anyone around me who isn't malicious towards me, very much."
Elizabeth's words were sincere and made her colleagues feel sorry for her.
The male colleagues felt sorry for her, and so did the female colleagues.
So at this moment, when they heard someone was causing trouble for Elizabeth at the company, the entire design department was willing to go and deal with the troublemaker together!
Elizabeth looked gratefully at everyone present and said with a smile, "Don't worry. I often encounter these situations, but I seem to always manage to get through them. You guys wait a bit. If there's any situation in the HR department, I'll call you as a signal. When you hear my call, come up immediately and deal with them!"
Her colleagues laughed.
"No problem!"
"Deal!"
"I'm going up now." Elizabeth went upstairs to the HR department with a smile. As soon as she entered the hallway upstairs, she saw two people.
Elizabeth asked puzzledly, "What are you two doing here? Did the HR department not only call me but also you two? Did we do something against the company? I don't think so?"
Julia, with a sullen face, said to Elizabeth, "Do you know who is sitting in the VIP room of the HR department?"
Elizabeth shook her head, asking, "Who?"
Julia was about to speak when an old voice suddenly came from the VIP room, "Is Elizabeth here? Let her come in directly!"
Elizabeth was stunned, finding the voice familiar that had once insulted her greatly.
"Why is he here?" Elizabeth looked at Julia and Harper. She wasn't really asking them, just talking to herself.
Harper said worriedly, "Sable secretly called the two of us. We were going to come down and find you to figure something out together, but as soon as we got to the elevator, we saw he was already up. The HR department people were welcoming him at the elevator. The HR department called you from the front desk. We had to wait here for you. Elizabeth, don't go in. Take the day off and go home."
Then she whispered to Elizabeth, "That guy is pretty fierce."
Julia also held Elizabeth's arm and whispered so only Elizabeth and Harper could hear, "Yes, Elizabeth, don't go in. You don't owe him anything. This company is just his grandson's company. Turn around and leave now. Don't pay attention to him. Who does he think he is? He's almost at the end of his life and still so domineering! He's not a cultured noble at all!"
Elizabeth was amused by them and whispered, "Wait here for me. If you see me arguing with him, come in and help me!"
"Okay!"
"Absolutely!"
With their support, Elizabeth went in.
In the VIP room, Declan sat in the middle, looking very arrogant. Next to him were the HR director Joseph and the company's deputy general manager Aiden Rivera.
"Elizabeth!" Declan shouted sharply.
Elizabeth looked at Declan with equally sharp eyes, saying coldly, "Mr. Jones, long time no see. Your commanding habit hasn't changed, has it?"
"You!" Declan was so angry that he slammed the table.
"Elizabeth! Mr. Jones is highly respected. Even Mr. Windsor has to show some respects," Aiden reminded Elizabeth.
Elizabeth smiled faintly, not taking Declan seriously at all, "To be respected by others, you have to make them feel you're worth respecting. Mr. Jones, do you think you're worth my respect?"
Hearing Elizabeth say this, Declan's veins bulged with anger, but then he suddenly calmed down. In a very indifferent tone, he said to Elizabeth, "You still have that characteristic of being argumentative."
"Thanks for the compliment!"
"Only a thick-skinned woman like you can take insults as compliments. I know you well enough to know how shameless you can be. Basically, nothing can bring you down. Otherwise, you wouldn't have been so successful and ended up marrying Alexander."
"Still, thank you for the compliment!"
"I came to tell you today that although you married Alexander, you don't know where his heart lies. His mother, Esme, is not from this country. She is from an island nation in Nebula. Her family have lived on that island for generations. But forty years ago, the island was occupied, and her family lost their lives in that war. So, the reason Alexander ruthlessly eliminated his brother to take control of the Windsor Group is ultimately to take back that island in Nebula. And I am the one who can help him take that island."
"So what price do you want Alexander to pay?"
"Divorce you!"
