Chapter 233 Start Targeting Elizabeth
Elizabeth and Julia turned around, seeing Harper, whom they hadn't seen for days.
Harper looked furious, saying, "Aren't you afraid of being slandered if you didn't do it? Owen came to find you right after getting off the plane, openly in front of the company. And you are saying these things. Elizabeth, do you think anyone would believe you?"
Elizabeth, impatient, replied, "Why would I say it to someone who wouldn't believe me?"
"Exactly! Why would Elizabeth say it to someone who wouldn't believe her?" Julia defended Elizabeth, retorting to Harper.
Julia used to be afraid of Harper, but things were different now.
It made Julia feel vindicated seeing Elizabeth fearlessly confront Harper, even managing to get her kicked out of the company.
Harper wasn't that impressive, only getting in because of her connection to Elodie's cousin, Simon!
She certainly wasn't a high-society lady!
In Sunwillow City, she wasn't even fit to carry the shoes of a true high-society lady, yet often acting arrogantly in the company!
It was one thing to bully people with her connections, but she was so malicious that she had set a broken chair for Elizabeth. If Elizabeth hadn't noticed, she might not be alive now.
A woman as vicious as Harper had the nerve to criticize Elizabeth!
At that moment, Julia was determined to scold Harper harshly.
Harper was trembling with anger.
Elizabeth didn't let her off the hook, saying, "Harper! If I remember correctly, you're no longer an employee here. What are you doing here? Just to argue with me?"
"The company isn't your home! You have no right to question me! So what if I came to argue with you? You're a homewrecker, and I want everyone in the company to know it!" Harper argued unreasonably.
"You're really stupid!" Elizabeth said calmly.
Julia laughed. "Elizabeth, you may not say much, but what you say makes sense."
Harper retorted, "You, a homewrecker, dare to call me stupid!"
Elizabeth sighed. "Haven't you always been insulting me? Am I wrong to call you stupid? Owen came to the company to see me yesterday, and you found out today. You must have learned it from one of two sources: either a former colleague still working here told you, or Elodie told you. Harper, do you realize you're being used? Elodie told you I'm a homewrecker, right? But did Elodie tell you who I am?"
It was clear that Elodie had never told Harper that Elizabeth was the woman who had been ostracized by the entire high society six years ago. If Elodie had told her, she would have used it to cause trouble.
Why didn't Elodie tell Harper?
There must be a reason.
Elizabeth didn't know the reason, but one thing was certain: Elodie didn't want Harper to know the truth.
Not telling Harper the truth but still using her to lead the charge—what else could it be but using her?
Harper said, "What nonsense are you talking about! I won't be swayed by you."
Elizabeth didn't want to talk to Harper anymore, "Sorry, I need to get to work. Please don't disturb me. If you continue to slander me and affect my work, I will consider calling the police!"
With that, Elizabeth pulled Julia along, saying, "Julia, let's go inside and ignore her."
Julia and Elizabeth went inside together.
As they were about to turn the corner, Julia looked back at Harper and gave her a scornful look, teasing, "Serves you right!"
"I'm so mad! You two just wait until Elodie gets back from Pariz. You'll see!" Harper shouted at the entrance, hands on her hips.
She knew that both major shareholders, Simon and Robert, were not around these days.
The largest shareholder, Simon, hadn't been to the company for three weeks due to Declan's illness, and Robert was always mysterious. Moreover, he was also in Pariz these days.
So Harper knew that no one could stop her from causing a scene here.
However, just as Harper finished speaking, Joseph from the HR department arrived, saying, "Miss Williams, please do not cause a disturbance in our company. This seriously affects our operations. Please leave immediately!"
Harper retorted, "You're kicking me out?"
Joseph replied, "Miss Williams, you are not an employee here. If you continue to cause trouble, I will call the police!"
Harper started crying and then ran away, covering her face.
Outside the company's main entrance, she immediately took out her phone, calling Elodie. "Elodie, just as you predicted, Elizabeth came to work today. She even called me stupid, saying you were using me. Elodie, you..."
"She wasn't wrong! You are stupid, you idiot! Someone like you dreams of marrying Mr. Lavien! Even my fiancé Owen wouldn't look at you, let alone Robert!" Elodie yelled over the phone.
She had only asked Harper to check if Elizabeth had come to work today, but Harper had ended up arguing with Elizabeth, hopelessly foolish!
Elodie, who never considered Harper a person, was even more dismissive of her now!
Harper started crying. "Elodie, we're good friends. I'm doing this for you. I want you to marry Owen soon. That way, even if you leave the Jones family, you'll still be a wealthy lady! I do like Mr. Lavien, but I never thought of marrying him because I know I'm not qualified. I just want to have a one-time fling with him, just once."
"You wretch, you always fail, why don't you just die! Get lost!" Elodie shouted, furious!
She hung up the phone in a hurry, so angry she wanted to smash her phone.
What made Elodie even angrier was that Elizabeth could still go to work so easily.
And Elizabeth even tried to drive a wedge between her and Harper!
Damn it!
Without thinking, Elodie called Clara, who was far away in Pariz. This time, her tone was much softer than the night before. "Miss Guise, are you busy right now?"
Clara sneered. "Elodie, your words last night were meant to provoke me, weren't they? You're probably worried that Elizabeth hasn't gotten pregnant with Alexander's child but with your fiancé Owen's child. You're afraid you won't even be able to marry someone like Owen, a fallen rich man."
Elodie replied, "Clara, I'm worried about my fiancé being taken away, but aren't you worried too? Elizabeth is a common enemy we both need to eliminate. Let's not undermine each other now, okay?"
Clara's tone softened. "You're right! I may despise you, but I despise Elizabeth even more!"
Elodie immediately said, "Then you..."
"I've already started taking action against Elizabeth!" Clara said viciously.
