Chapter 87 Gavin Reveals Alexander's Thoughts

"Who the hell are you? Why are you answering my husband's phone?" Clara's voice was shrill and hysterical on the other end.

Elizabeth hesitated, "I..."

She glanced at Alexander, feeling utterly miserable.

She hadn't expected Clara to call, especially since Alexander's phone didn't have her number saved. Clara's confident and sharp tone made Elizabeth feel like she was the one in the wrong.

She handed the phone to Alexander.

"What is it?" Alexander's tone was full of irritation.

"Honey, why is there a woman with you, and why is she answering your phone? Who is she?" Clara cried, sounding upset but still using a sweet tone.

She knew it was Elizabeth.

Even though Elizabeth hadn't said much, Clara was sure it was her. She had seen Alexander protect Elizabeth from the knife, watched her bandage his wound, and saw them both get into the ambulance together.

It had to be Elizabeth!

But Alexander calmly said, "A nurse."

Clara went silent.

She knew he was lying, but she didn't dare confront him. She pretended to be surprised, "What's wrong? Are you in the hospital? Are you sick?"

"Nothing's wrong! I'm just annoyed by your noisy voice!" Alexander snapped.

Clara played innocent. "I'm worried about you. After trying on my wedding dress and leaving the bridal shop, I felt a slight heaviness in my lower abdomen on the way home. When I got home, I lay down and called the family doctor to check on me."

"What happened?" Alexander's voice rose.

Clara, sounding a bit hurt, said, "The doctor said it's nothing serious. She just left and specifically told my mom that pregnant women are emotionally unstable and need more company for the baby's development."

Alexander's expression didn't change.

His eyes darkened, as if he was holding back some anger.

He knew this was another one of Clara's tricks.

Why was she so good at playing the victim?

Every time he wanted to get mad at Clara, he thought of the child she was carrying.

He couldn't let his child suffer like he had. He had to make sure the kid lived happily.

Alexander softened his tone, "There was an accident, but it's nothing serious. You might be tired from trying on the wedding dress this morning. Rest well, and I'll come see you after I handle things here."

"Our wedding..." This was Clara's main concern.

"The wedding will go on as planned!" Alexander said.

Listening to Alexander talk about wedding plans with Clara, Elizabeth felt nothing but irony. Just three hours ago, she had divorced Alexander.

And now he was about to get married.

And he was marrying Clara, Elizabeth's enemy. How could she stay here any longer?

Seeing Alexander still comforting Clara and noticing that his hand seemed fine, Elizabeth quietly left the hospital room.

Gavin was standing outside. He had intended to stay inside to take care of Alexander, but seeing Elizabeth there, he had given them some space.

"Mr. Brown, thanks," Elizabeth said.

Gavin looked surprised. "Mrs. Windsor—no, Miss Spencer, why are you out here?"

"Mr. Windsor's wound is bandaged, and he's fine now, so I came out. Also, please thank him for me. I'll always remember his life-saving act. By the way, Mr. Brown, could you ask Mr. Windsor if I can visit Aunt Esme's grave in the future?"

Gavin was silent.

"Aunt Esme will always be my family, which is why I refused the money in the contract. I won't let money tarnish my feelings for her," Elizabeth said.

"I'll ask for you," Gavin replied. "Miss Spencer, Mr. Windsor just had his wound bandaged. Could you stay a bit longer to take care of him?"

Elizabeth smiled. "Mr. Windsor is on the phone with Clara."

"He doesn't love Clara!" Gavin said fiercely.

Elizabeth stayed silent.

"Miss Spencer, I've never seen Mr. Windsor use his own hand to shield anyone from a knife!" Gavin said, looking at her.

Elizabeth smiled again. "So what? Would Mr. Windsor abandon his own child? He and Aunt Esme have experienced such pain, so he won't let his child go through the same life. Besides, I'm a woman carrying someone else's child. Even if Alexander didn't have a fiancée, would he want me? No! And even though I'm poor and down-and-out, I wouldn't want a man who abandons his wife and child! So, Mr. Brown, stop saying these things. I'm leaving now, goodbye!"

With that, Elizabeth walked away without looking back.

Gavin was silent.

Watching her leave, he felt a sense of regret.

Both were pregnant, but the difference between Clara and Elizabeth was so vast!

How great would it be if Elizabeth were carrying Alexander's child?

Gavin sighed and went back to take care of Alexander.

Elizabeth, with a heavy heart, returned to her rented apartment.

She needed to pack her things and leave Aldoria as soon as possible, to say goodbye to everyone here and never return to this troublesome place.

Spreading the $100,000 Alexander had given her on the bed, Elizabeth took out $10,000 and wrote Samuel's name on a note. Those were the expenses Samuel had covered for her during her hospital stay. Since she wasn't close with Samuel, she didn't want to owe him anything.

Then she took out another $10,000 and wrote Owen's name on the note.

Although she had saved Owen's life, it didn't offset the money she owed him. Since she had decided to leave this troublesome place, she wanted to sever all ties cleanly.

Elizabeth had $80,000 left.

She decided to first visit her mother's grave in her hometown and find out the true cause of her mother's death, then focus on giving birth. $80,000 should be enough for her to live frugally for two years.

After two years, when her child was one year old, she would work hard to earn money and save up.

One day, she would definitely return the $100,000 to Alexander.

Elizabeth packed everything that night, ready to leave Aldoria the next day after returning the money to Owen and Samuel.

Early the next morning, as soon as Elizabeth opened the door, she saw someone standing outside.

Elizabeth calmly asked, "Mr. Tudor, is there something you need?"
