Chapter 48 Husband and Wife Have Breakfast Together

Elizabeth looked up at Alexander, not understanding what he meant.

Her tone was cold and detached, almost numb as she spoke, "Mr. Windsor, what are you trying to say? My schemes against you, haven't you already figured them out? Since you've already seen through me, why are you still asking?"

"Have you forgotten what I once warned you about?" Alexander's tone was not as harsh as usual.

"I haven't forgotten," Elizabeth replied then she lowered her head and suddenly gave a self-deprecating smile.

Not to mention that Alexander had warned her not to mess around with other men while they were still married, even if he hadn't warned her, who could she mess around with?

None of the men and women at the yacht party today saw her as a person, including Owen, who was nice to her but couldn't hide the playfulness in his eyes.

In their eyes, she was just someone pathetic.

"I just wanted to earn some tips, that's all. Unfortunately, even that path has been blocked by you," Elizabeth said truthfully.

Her tone carried no resentment, nor did she want to explain.

She seemed to have accepted the reality with a sense of helplessness.

Alexander suddenly paused, staring at her without blinking, and then changed the subject. "That architectural design, did you draw it?" he inquired.

Elizabeth suddenly looked up at Alexander, her long, curly eyelashes fluttering involuntarily to hide her panic. But the more she tried to hide it, the more it showed. She denied profusely, "What design? I don't know what you're talking about."

"The drawing! I saw it in your room," Alexander said in his deep, magnetic voice.

Elizabeth remained silent.

She didn't know what Alexander knew.

She only knew that Alexander had always opposed her deceiving Esme. If Alexander found out that she had learned a lot of practical architectural knowledge from Esme in prison, would he accuse her of another crime?

She wasn't afraid of anything else; she was most afraid of losing her job.

If Alexander got angry and didn't want her to work, it would be hard for her to find a job, not just in this city, but in the whole country.

"That drawing was done by my company's director, Sawyer. She finished the draft but didn't have time to revise it, so she asked me to work overtime to help her," Elizabeth stammered in denial.

"Really?" Alexander asked with interest.

Elizabeth suddenly felt that his tone today wasn't as cold.

It seemed like he wasn't blaming her.

She felt much more at ease.

Elizabeth looked up at him again. The distance between them was so close that it gave her a sense of oppression, forcing her to look at his face.

Alexander's face was indeed handsome.

It was a kind of cold, fierce, ruthless, yet handsome look.

Now, she couldn't figure him out just by gazing at him. She didn't even know if he was happy or angry.

Elizabeth only felt that a domineering man like Alexander, who could intimidate all the heirs of wealthy families on the yacht, was not someone who could give her a sense of warmth and help.

Although he wouldn't play with her like the others on the yacht, he probably never treated her as a person either.

Elizabeth, who had stumbled into this circle of the rich and been played around, was already numb emotionally. She didn't want to respond to Alexander's questions anymore and quietly said, "Mr. Windsor, there is only a contract between us. When the contract ends, you give me what I want, and I leave. That's all."

After saying that, she slipped out from under his arm and silently went into her room.

The door quietly closed.

Alexander stood there in a daze.

The next day, Elizabeth got up early as usual. Just as she was about to leave after washing up, she heard a deep voice behind her. Alexander said, "Wait a minute."

Elizabeth turned around and saw Alexander in a suit, holding a briefcase. She was puzzled.

"I'm going to the hospital to see my mom this morning," Alexander said casually.

Elizabeth remained silent, observing him.

She felt a bit uneasy following Alexander out of the elevator and out the door, where she saw Gavin's car parked at the entrance.

Elizabeth walked past the car without stopping, but as she passed the door, Alexander suddenly grabbed her arm.

Elizabeth was startled and shivered in fear.

"Get in the car," Alexander said calmly, opening the door and letting her sit inside. He also got in and sat next to her.

This sudden action made Elizabeth even more uncomfortable.

She was used to his cold demeanor, and this sudden behavior made her extremely uneasy. However, Alexander seemed very comfortable, working on his laptop without saying a word or looking at Elizabeth.

Elizabeth nervously fidgeted on the hem of her clothes.

She thought she could act calmly and naturally in front of him, but that was only when he was cold and hard.

With his change in behavior today, she felt at a loss. In front of him, she was still too immature.

Gavin occasionally glanced at Elizabeth from the front, finding her nervously fidgeting on her clothes rather cute.

The car drove all the way to the hospital. It was the first time Esme saw Alexander and Elizabeth visiting her together in the morning, and her joy was evident.

However, Esme was very understanding, knowing that Alexander had to go to the Windsor Group to handle company affairs in the morning and that Elizabeth had to go to work. She didn't let them stay long and quickly sent them away.

Outside the hospital, Elizabeth finally breathed a sigh of relief.

She was about to take the bus to work. but before she could turn around, Alexander spoke again, "Let's have breakfast together."

"What?" Elizabeth remarked as she looked at Alexander in surprise.

Alexander was serious, not joking, and his expression didn't allow her to refuse.

"I've already had breakfast," Elizabeth said, then immediately regretted it.

Alexander glanced around. He pointed out while ignoring what she had just said, "That breakfast place over there."

With that, he walked straight over.

He was acting so strangely today that Elizabeth didn't dare not follow. In the restaurant, Alexander sat at the table and said to Elizabeth in a commanding tone, "Buy some breakfast for us. I want a sandwich and a glass of milk. You can get whatever you want."

Elizabeth remained silent.

After a few seconds, she obediently went to buy breakfast for them. When she brought it back and placed it in front of him, she sat across from him nervously and asked in a slightly desperate tone, "Mr. Windsor, I don't understand why you're doing this."

"Doing what?" Alexander replied before he took a bite of his sandwich and looked at Elizabeth impatiently.

"Why are you having breakfast with me?" Elizabeth asked.

"Why do you need a reason for a husband and wife to have breakfast together?" Alexander said without even looking at Elizabeth.
