Chapter 9 Clara Provokes Elizabeth
Elizabeth's heart skipped a beat.
A distinguished man like Alexander surely wouldn't lack girlfriends. The only reason Alexander married her was to ensure his dying mother had no regrets.
But Elizabeth never expected Alexander's girlfriend to be Clara.
Life was truly ironic for her.
Those who once oppressed her were now living a more prosperous and glamorous lifestyle. Meanwhile, her future was ruined, pregnant out of wedlock, and she didn't even know the name of her child's father.
Looking at the well-matched couple in front of her, Elizabeth felt like a clown.
It seemed Clara's excuse for asking her to come for her mother's photo was just a pretense to show off her boyfriend.
Hiding her inner bitterness, Elizabeth said calmly, "Where can a tainted woman like me find a rich husband? I was just joking earlier. Since you have guests, I won't disturb you any longer. Please give me my mom's photo, and I'll leave right away."
She didn't spare Alexander a glance, as if they were strangers.
Alexander also remained expressionless.
He hadn't wanted to come to The Guise Mansion, but considering Clara had once saved his life, he made an effort to visit her today.
He hadn't expected to run into Elizabeth here.
The scene of Elizabeth and Alexander acting like strangers didn't escape the notice of Oliver and Lila, who were secretly delighted.
Elizabeth truly didn't know that the man she had slept with that night with was Alexander. Not only was he alive, but he had also become the most distinguished man in all of Sunwillow City overnight.
Clara exchanged a glance with her parents and then accused, "Elizabeth, my boyfriend just arrived, but you're leaving? You're being so rude. It makes it seem like our family mistreats you."
Turning to Alexander, Clara said, "Alexander, you have no idea. Our family has been supporting her since she was a teenager, providing for her food, clothing, and education, but she didn't turn out well! She was even jailed during her sophomore year."
Alexander cast a disdainful glance at Elizabeth and said to Clara, "Stay away from such a despicable person in the future."
"Of course, Alexander. But she should at least stay for dinner. After all, she lived with us for eight years, and our whole family is quite fond of her," Clara said sweetly.
Taking advantage of Alexander's blind spot, she shot Elizabeth a smug smile.
She wanted Elizabeth to see how sweet she and Alexander were together.
If she weren't afraid of Alexander finding out, Clara would have directly told Elizabeth, "The man you gave your virginity to save is actually the most distinguished man in all of Sunwillow City, and now he's my husband."
She especially wanted to see Elizabeth extremely furious.
Seeing that the Guise family didn't mention the photo, Elizabeth said, "I'll stay for dinner."
She was just worried about where to get dinner.
Being looked down upon didn't matter; as long as she could get her mom's photo, it would be worth it.
Seeing Elizabeth sit down, Lila handed her two photos. Looking at her mother's picture, Elizabeth almost burst into tears.
She hadn't even figured out how her mother died, but now she had to eat here. The humiliation was indescribable.
She had to get the money Alexander promised her. Once she had the money, she would investigate her mother's death.
If the Guise family was responsible, she would make them pay a hundredfold!
Putting the photos in her cloth bag, Elizabeth settled into a corner of the sofa, sitting alone.
The Guise family ignored her and focused on talking with Alexander.
"Mr. Windsor, how about your marriage to Clara?" Oliver flattered Alexander, looking like a man eager to marry his daughter into a wealthy family.
Oliver and Lila even flaunted it in front of Elizabeth.
"I will marry Clara, but it will be in two months," Alexander said coldly and distantly.
He was really disgusted by the Guise family's way of discussing marriage in front of outsiders, especially when Elizabeth was here!
Even though she was legally his wife, she could still act indifferent.
Elizabeth, so young, yet so scheming.
Seeing Alexander's cold demeanor, Oliver didn't dare to argue. He meekly said, "Everything will be as you arrange, Mr. Windsor."
Clara, however, pouted. "Alexander, I can't wait. If we wait two more months, it will be too cold for me to look good in a wedding dress. Can we have the wedding this month?" she insisted.
Alexander particularly disliked women who acted coy. If Clara hadn't given her virginity to save him, he would have walked out.
He coldly repeated, "The wedding will be in two months!"
Clara awkwardly smiled and replied, "Okay."
She then turned and glared venomously at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was glancing frequently towards the dining room, not paying attention to their conversation. What did their wedding date have to do with her?
She was hungry.
Being pregnant made her often hungry.
Feeling the venomous gaze, Elizabeth turned to Clara and asked, "Is it time to eat?"
Clara was silent, feeling like she had punched a pillow.
But Alexander couldn't help but glance at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth's indifferent demeanor made his heart flutter for a moment.
When the servants brought the food, Elizabeth immediately noticed the pudding cake.
It was Clara's favorite dessert.
As soon as the cake was placed, Elizabeth grabbed it before Clara could.
"You..." Clara said and was shocked.
Lila was furious but restrained herself because of Alexander's presence. She forced a smile and said, "Elizabeth, I didn't know you liked sweets so much?"
"Yes, I've always wanted to eat this but never got the chance. Finally, I get to eat it today," Elizabeth said, nodding as she ate.
Lila gritted her teeth and smiled. She asked, "What else would you like to eat?"
Elizabeth glanced at the table as she replied, "Roast meat, steak..."
She knew they would curse her a thousand times in their hearts.
But weren't they the ones who insisted she stay for dinner?
Her baby was her only family. Making sure the baby was well-fed was the most important thing.
No one in this world cared for her; she had to care for herself.
Under everyone's gaze, Elizabeth put down her utensils and said, "I'm full. I'm leaving now."
Clara couldn't be bothered to act coy with Alexander anymore. She provocatively said, "It's getting dark. Are you rushing back to take care of business?"
