Chapter 297 Let Elizabeth Treat
Over there, Julia stammered a bit, "Mrs. Windsor, I'm sorry. I didn't know your identity before, so I might have been rude to you. Please forgive me."
Elizabeth teased, "Julia! Since when did you start stuttering?"
Julia remained silent.
She was scared and actually a bit mad at Elizabeth.
Clearly, Elizabeth was Alexander's wife, but she hid her identity, making Julia always feel sorry for her, thinking she was pitiful. But in fact, Elizabeth had a very noble status!
Over there, Elizabeth coaxed good-naturedly, "Julia, can you tell me what happened to you? If you don't tell me, I'm coming up to find you."
Julia panicked and said, "Don't come up. I'm really busy with work. Bye!"
With that, Julia immediately hung up the phone.
On this side, Elizabeth felt a bit guilty.
She really liked Julia, but she wasn't like others, good at talking and socializing.
From childhood to adulthood, she cherished every friend she made.
Just like she used to cherish Owen.
She decided to organize her work and then go find Julia in person.
Even if it meant apologizing to Julia, she was willing.
She hadn't been to work for several days, and she originally thought she might lose her job. At this moment, she picked up her work and started sorting it out. She had always been serious and responsible about her work, organizing it methodically. In less than two hours, she had everything sorted out. Her neck was sore from the effort.
Elizabeth looked up and stretched.
A cup of coffee was handed to her, and a very flattering female voice respectfully said, "Mrs. Windsor, have some coffee if you're tired. I ordered it especially for you according to your taste. Even though you haven't been with the company for long, I've always cared about you. I can tell you love sweets. Try it, and I'm sure you'll like it."
Hearing this voice, Elizabeth felt a wave of disgust.
This woman was Yara Brooks, who usually got along best with Linda.
She often chatted about Elizabeth in front of Linda, even when Elizabeth was right there. Linda would say, "Stop talking; she's here." But Yara would still openly belittle Elizabeth.
On Elizabeth's first day at work, she saw the two women gossiping about her in the elevator, and Yara was one of them.
Although Yara wasn't as vicious as Linda, who had beaten Elizabeth and almost killed her, Yara wasn't a good person either.
So Elizabeth didn't like Yara's hypocrisy.
"Take it away," Elizabeth said calmly.
"Mrs. Windsor, just try it. You'll see I'm not lying," Yara pretended not to hear and continued to smile at Elizabeth.
Yara firmly believed in the saying that no one would tear their face off in person.
Sure enough, when she pushed the coffee closer to Elizabeth, Elizabeth didn't refuse again.
Yara felt a burst of joy.
There was nothing she couldn't handle.
She was known in the office for her high emotional intelligence and harmonious relationships with colleagues.
Feeling pleased, Yara was about to turn around and boast to a few colleagues when she saw Elizabeth calmly put the untouched cup of coffee into the trash can.
Yara was silent, her face turning awkward.
Elizabeth wasn't trying to spite Yara.
She didn't spite anyone.
She just felt there was no need to accept Yara. She would never need a friend like Yara in her life. Since there was no need to interact, why pretend to be friendly?
It would only make herself unhappy.
Elizabeth didn't hate Yara, simply disliking this type of person
She didn't like her, so she didn't care about Yara's thoughts or opinions.
Even though Yara's face was awkward, Elizabeth remained natural.
She handed a portion of her work to Yara, saying, "This is your workload for the week. If you have any questions, you can discuss them with me."
Yara was silent.
Elizabeth had already turned and walked out of the office.
As soon as she stepped out, the office erupted.
First, Yara complained with a sad face, "Mrs. Windsor is holding a grudge against me, isn't she?"
Austin said, "Elizabeth is not that kind of person!"
Yara retorted, "Then why didn't she drink the coffee I gave her?"
Another male colleague, Kieran, sneered, "Why does she have to drink your coffee?"
Then Aaron added, "Is your coffee special?"
Yara was silent.
Austin, the youngest intern, spoke directly, "Yara, you haven't figured out what kind of person Elizabeth is. She's very simple, pure, and sincere. She works diligently at everything she does. Even though she has the most prestigious husband in Sunwillow City, she has never flaunted it. She's not good at socializing like you. She has nothing to do with you, so she doesn't need to give you any extra attention either. Understand?"
Yara was silent, with her face turning red with embarrassment.
But she couldn't change jobs. If she quitted, who would want someone with her mediocre skills?
At this moment, Yara regretted it.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth had arrived in front of Julia.
Seeing Julia working seriously, Elizabeth gently called out, "Julia."
Julia looked up, her face a bit awkward, and her tone nervous, "Mrs. Windsor."
Elizabeth rolled her eyes at Julia, asking, "Are you still my good friend or not!"
"But you're Mr. Windsor's wife."
"Don't forget; you still owe me a meal. Last time, I spent four hundred dollars treating you to a buffet. Are you trying to get out of it? No way!"
Julia pouted and smiled, "With your high and mighty status, do you really want to be friends with me?"
"Of course!"
With that, Elizabeth self-deprecatingly laughed, "If you hadn't stopped her, I might have been disfigured by Harper and Linda. If I were really fucking disfigured, would Alexander still want me?"
Julia exclaimed, "I can't believe you would say such things."
In Julia's heart, Elizabeth had always been distant and aloof. Over the past few days, she had learned about Elizabeth's background and felt that she was the kind of person who was unattainable.
She had never expected that Elizabeth would be like a woman in love, caring about whether her partner liked her face.
Elizabeth smiled playfully, "I can say a lot of things."
Julia laughed, "Let's have a buffet together this afternoon, your treat! I want to eat a high-end buffet that costs $999 per person!"
"No problem!"
They immediately made up.
Then they left together, chatting and laughing, entered the elevator, and exited the elevator. Someone was standing outside the elevator door.
Seeing who it was, they both froze.
