Chapter 202 I Have a Way
Linda's design plan had issues, which Elizabeth noticed last week. Now hearing Linda pleading on the phone was something Elizabeth had anticipated.
She didn't even turn her head, continuing walking out, but she heard Linda scream behind her, "Elizabeth! Stop right there!"
Elizabeth pretended not to hear.
She was no longer an employee of this company, so why should she stop?
"Elizabeth! Are you deaf?" Linda shouted, put down the phone, and stomped her high heels in frustration, catching up with Elizabeth, and blocking her path, glaring at her.
Elizabeth's tone was icy, "Move."
She couldn't be bothered to say another word to anyone, needing to find a job. The one she almost secured this morning would have been hers if it weren't for Anna's call telling her she could still keep her current job. She wouldn't have come back otherwise!
Now, her current job was in jeopardy, and she wasn't sure if the other job would still be available. Elizabeth was anxious.
"Elizabeth, did you cause this trouble?" Linda asked without reason.
Elizabeth asked, "What did you say?"
Linda said, "You never intended to work here properly. You're just a loser! Miss Williams was right! You're a homewrecker, always chasing after men wherever you go. You failed to seduce Miss Williams' sister's husband, so you turned your attention here. On your first day, you managed to attract Mr. Lavien's attention. Elizabeth, we all thought you were a bumpkin, but you're actually quite skilled! A master at seducing men!"She asked, "Did you tamper with my draft when you were proofreading it? If someone who doesn't understand architecture makes even a small change, the construction team could make mistakes following your plans!"
One person said, "Exactly! Elizabeth, did you cause this trouble?"
Another person said, "If you don't tell the truth, you won't be able to leave today! Our design department has never had issues before. How come there are problems as soon as you arrive?"
Someone suggested, "Ms. Morgan, don't let this bitch Elizabeth leave! If she goes, our design department will be in big trouble!"
For a moment, everyone in the design department was united against Elizabeth, as if keeping her would absolve them of any blame.
Elizabeth looked coldly at Linda, then at Anna.
Anna was responsible for her hiring, knowing whether she could design and understand architecture, so Elizabeth stared at Anna without blinking.
Anna said sternly, "It is wrong for you to say Elizabeth doesn't understand design. I personally hired her. She understands design and architecture."
Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief.
"But," Anna continued, "Elizabeth, although you're no longer an employee, you did work here for two days, and during those two days, you did come into contact with Linda's design drafts. Linda is our most senior designer, and her designs rarely have issues. So, you can't completely absolve yourself of responsibility."
Elizabeth said coldly, "Ms. Morgan, please get to the point!"
She didn't want to waste time.
"How about this, let's go to the construction site and compare Linda's design plans. Since the project just started, the issue shouldn't be too big, but we need to determine who's responsible, right?" Anna requested.
"Fine!" Elizabeth answered decisively.
The innocent have nothing to fear. She didn't do anything wrong, so she wouldn't take the blame. She would go to the site with them to see whose fault it was!
The entire design department took a company bus directly to the construction site.
On the way, colleagues gossiped, attacking Elizabeth.
"Elizabeth, if you're going to be a homewrecker, can you not come to our company and mess with others?"
"Let me be clear! If it's your mistake, you bear the responsibility alone. Do you think construction is a joke? It could cost lives and lead to jail time! Can you bear that responsibility?"
"You must bear the responsibility! Don't think you can escape!"
"Why do you have to seduce men here? Do you think everyone in our architecture firm is blind?"
On the way, they almost pointed at Elizabeth's nose and cursed her. Elizabeth realized that the design department had more men than women. In this field, men were more common. There were only five women on the bus, all of them cursing her.
The male colleagues didn't say much. Some even looked at Elizabeth with sympathy.
Elizabeth knew these women were jealous of her.
Jealous that she attracted Robert's attention as soon as she joined, jealous that she successfully dealt with Harper, and most of all, jealous that she arrived at the company in Robert's car that morning.
These women probably thought that if they pinned the construction mistake on Elizabeth, Robert would make sure she was punished.
Facing so many accusations, Elizabeth didn't argue with anyone.
She didn't have time to argue, just wanting to figure out where the mistake was in Linda's drafts. All the errors in Linda's drafts were fixable.
If they were completely unfixable, Elizabeth would have pointed them out at the time.
Before she knew it, the bus arrived at the construction site.
It was a building that had been constructed but not yet decorated.
As soon as Elizabeth walked in, she realized where the mistake was.
"Linda!" Elizabeth called out confidently.
"What, now you realize your mistake and want to apologize? Too late! You're fully responsible for all the errors here!" Linda said, relentless.
Elizabeth sneered, "As soon as I walked into this building, I knew it was your draft. I reminded you about it. I asked if you wanted me to review your design, but you said no! I saw the problem in your draft at the time."
Linda shouted, "At this point, you're still slandering me! Elizabeth, you're so vicious!"
Elizabeth calmly said, "Whether I'm slandering you or not, your computer has the files, and so does mine. Let's compare the saved drafts with the current construction plans. You'll see. I know you'll say I tampered with my files, but sorry, Linda, my saved files are read-only copies from your computer, with the date from when I joined the company. I didn't touch them."
Linda was silent.
Everyone present was silent.
Seeing Linda's face turn paler, Elizabeth quietly said, "I have a way to fix this mistake."
