Chapter 36 Alexander Was Specifically Waiting for Her

Elizabeth was startled.

After calming herself and adjusting to the darkness, she noticed Alexander sitting alone on the sofa. He had an unlit cigar in his mouth, his hands resting on his knees, and his deep eyes scrutinizing Elizabeth.

"You..." Elizabeth initially wanted to ask why Alexander wasn't asleep yet and where Clara was.

But she didn't ask.

She was frightened by Alexander's expression.

"Come here!" Alexander commanded, not allowing Elizabeth to resist.

For a moment, Elizabeth felt like a lowly, unloved mistress who had made a mistake.

When Alexander called her over, she didn't dare to object.

Elizabeth bit her lip nervously and walked over to Alexander. "Is something wrong?" she inquired.

Her tone was calm and natural.

But Alexander sneered inwardly.

As soon as she left, he had driven Clara away.

Although he had sex with Clara once, he had no interest in her body.

Clara's repeated attempts to please him only made him more disgusted with her.

If it weren't for that night Clara saved him by sacrificing her virginity, indirectly leading to his later success, he would have broken her ribs long ago.

However, Alexander couldn't do that.He could marry Clara, give her a lifetime of wealth and luxury, and spoil her.But Alexander had no love for Clara.

Especially when Clara acted coquettishly and badmouthed Elizabeth in front of him, Alexander almost couldn't resist kicking Clara to death.

But he held back, merely driving Clara away instead.

As soon as Clara left, Alexander went out to find Elizabeth and saw her sitting on a flower bed, making a phone call from a distance.

Elizabeth was saying, "Mr. Tudor."

Her tone was cautious and flattering.

For some reason, Alexander felt incredibly angry.

When he returned, he sat in the dark living room, waiting for Elizabeth to come back.

At this moment, was Elizabeth pretending to be pure and innocent in front of him?

Alexander suddenly stood up, reached out, and wrapped his arm around Elizabeth's slender waist. Then he pressed his other hand against the back of her neck, controlling her in his embrace.

Alexander moved closer to Elizabeth.

He must have smoked several cigars earlier; otherwise, he wouldn't have such a strong smell of smoke clinging to him. This scent gave Alexander an aura of danger intertwined with mature, seductive charm.

Elizabeth was so scared that she forgot to breathe and instinctively pushed him away.

But she was already weak, having just recovered from a fever, and her resistance was futile.

With a simple twist, Alexander pinned her in the corner of the sofa.

His long, strong legs immediately spread hers apart.

Elizabeth trembled with fear, her teeth chattering, her tongue tied, unable to speak.

She didn't know what she was feeling.

She felt apprehensive and ashamed.

Yet there was an inexplicable sense of familiarity.

It was like that night two months ago when she was controlled by the now-deceased man. Although he was her shame, he was the only man she had ever sex with.

Elizabeth stopped struggling, resigning herself to her fate.

She fantasized that Alexander was that man; hoping it would ease her pain.

Powerless against her circumstances , she felt treated her like a plaything, an ant, a weed.

She was penniless, with no support, and utterly exhausted.

She didn't want to fight anymore.

If she was humiliated again today, she would just resort to ending herself.

Reuniting with her baby and her mother might be a happy thing.

Seeing Elizabeth's obedient demeanor, Alexander suddenly stood up, looking down at her with even more contempt.

"I've never had a woman I wanted to have sex with resist me before! And you're certainly not qualified!" Alexander said coldly, "Listen to me! During the month of our marriage, you better fulfill your duties as a wife and not seduce any men! This is your only warning!"

With that, Alexander left.

Elizabeth was silent.

She thought, 'Seduce men?

'A pregnant woman like me with no money, barely able to eat, how could I seduce anyone?

'I just wanted to follow the contract, get some money in two months, and at least be able to support myself and my baby.'

"I just want to live, to support my baby. I won't seduce anyone," Elizabeth muttered to herself in the living room.

The next day.

Elizabeth got up early as usual, bought some food on the way, and took the bus to the hospital to visit Esme. After chatting with Esme for a while, she hurried to the main office.

Because she had taken a day off yesterday, she needed to report to the design director, Sawyer Rivera.

"Sorry, I'm here to submit a leave request," Elizabeth said cautiously, her head lowered.

She had only been working for less than a month and had already taken two days off.

"No need for a leave request. You were just doing odd jobs at the construction site anyway, so we'll count yesterday as a workday," Sawyer said expressionlessly.

Elizabeth knew thatOwen must have pulled some strings behind the scenes.

She immediately thanked him, "Thank you. I'll head to the construction site now."

"No need. Starting today, you'll be working in the office," Sawyer said without looking at Elizabeth, tossing a stack of documents at her. "Make copies of these and bring them to me."

Elizabeth was initially surprised, then repeatedly thanked him, "Okay, thank you. I'll do it right away!"

Even doing simple tasks in the office was much easier than moving bricks at the construction site. She took the documents and asked around for the copying room.

Along the way, she heard people gossiping about her, "That woman is just a country girl from out of town. I heard she was moving bricks at the construction site and was transferred here to do odd jobs, like cleaning?"

Somebody criticized, "She looks poor and shabby."

Another chimed in, "But it's good. With someone like her doing odd jobs in the office, we won't have to buy coffee or clean the tables ourselves."

Elizabeth didn't mind.

Doing odd jobs in the office was better than doing them at the construction site.

However, she was still exhausted by the end of the day.

The entire design department, with dozens of people, all ordered her around.

Somebody would ask, "Elizabeth, get me coffee."

Someone instructed, "Elizabeth, make copies for me."

Another commanded, "Elizabeth, bring lunch for the whole department."

Some demanded, "Elizabeth, buy us afternoon coffee."

Elizabeth remained silent.

After work, everyone in the department had left, and she was the last to leave.

While waiting for the bus at the bus stop, Elizabeth was so tired she could barely stand. At that moment, a sports car stopped in front of her.

"Elizabeth, get in the car," Owen said, raising an eyebrow at her.
