Chapter 295 Elizabeth's Intimacy
Seeing Alexander pause for a moment, Elizabeth immediately realized that her previous remark might have sounded like she was flirting with him.
She instantly felt embarrassed again.
Alexander didn't make things difficult for her and instead stood up, saying, "We're already late today; we need to leave immediately."
Elizabeth nodded, replying, "Okay."
Each holding one of Alice's hands, the family of three stepped out together.
Behind them, Mia and Emily looked on with satisfaction.
Mia sighed, "Mrs. Windsor is an honest person, and Mr. Windsor is just not very talkative, but he's never mistreated us. I really don't understand why people online spread such rumors about Mrs. Windsor! If I knew who started them, I'd argue with them myself."
Emily said, "No need, Mia. All those rumors were taken down this morning. Mr. Windsor can handle anything once he's back."
Mia felt relieved immediately, saying, "That's good. They should arrest those who spread such false reports and see if they dare to harm people like this again."
Mia was just expressing her indignation.
What she didn't know was that the entertainment companies and studios behind those journalists had all disappeared overnight.
No one knew where those people had gone.
This city was big, and everyone was busy; who had the time to care about others?
With no malicious comments about Elizabeth to be found online, and since Elizabeth usually didn't like to stand out or dress conspicuously, even though the official Twitter of the Windsor Group was flooded with comments about her and Alexander, no one recognized Elizabeth when she walked down the street.
Good news traveled slowly, but bad news traveled fast.
Elizabeth and Alexander's marriage was so happy and sweet that although people knew and envied them, the malicious rumors about her spread much faster.
With Alice sitting between Elizabeth and Alexander, the family of three headed to the kindergarten. Because they were late today, the children were already inside by the time they arrived, and Elizabeth didn't run into any other parents as she usually did.
She quickly returned to Alexander's car, looking at him and hesitating to speak.
"What's wrong?" Alexander asked.
Elizabeth bit her lip, saying, "I don't think I'll go to that company anymore. I can find another job."
She wasn't picky about work.
Even working on a construction site was fine.
As long as it was a job, she would take it seriously.
However, just as she finished speaking, her phone rang. It was a call from the HR department of the construction company. To be honest, Elizabeth felt a bit conflicted.
After all, Linda was gone.
Although she had brought it upon herself.
After hesitating for a moment, Elizabeth answered the call, "Hello."
The HR manager, Joseph, spoke in a businesslike tone, "Miss Spencer, we noticed you didn't come to work today. On Monday, we treated it as your monthly routine leave, but if you don't come today, the company might deduct your pay. If you want to take personal leave, you need to get approval from your director, Anna."
"Okay, I'll come to work right away. I was stuck in traffic, so I'm late."
"Alright, please hurry."
"Okay!"
After hanging up, before Elizabeth could say anything to Gavin, he had already sped up.
Elizabeth felt relieved, wanting a job in architectural design.
Firstly, because she genuinely liked the job, and secondly, because she wanted to carry on Esme's design philosophy and make it flourish.
Although she seemed gentle and quiet, she had her own principles and dreams.
Moreover, she was very resilient.
Even when faced with great difficulties, she wouldn't easily give up on what she wanted to do.
Thinking about how Joseph had called her to come to work, Elizabeth felt encouraged.
Yesterday's events were already in the past.
Even the malicious comments online had disappeared.
It was as if it had all been a nightmare.
Elizabeth didn't dwell on the past, only looking to the future.
In the future, she would be a successful architectural designer. Once her job was stable, she would immediately return to her hometown to visit her mother's grave. She might even move her parents' graves to Sunwillow City so she could visit them more often. And then, she would seek revenge on the Guise Family.
She would never let them off the hook, especially Oliver.
If Oliver was indeed who she suspected, then he would be her greatest enemy.
Lost in these thoughts, Elizabeth didn't speak to Alexander.
Fortunately, Alexander was also a man of few words.
Not talking to him didn't make him feel awkward; it was Elizabeth who, after finishing her thoughts, noticed that Alexander's tie was crooked and loose.
She suddenly remembered that she had dressed him and tied his tie this morning.
Was it her poor technique?
The tie had come loose so quickly?
Elizabeth naturally leaned on Alexander, looked up at him, and grabbed his tie with both hands, saying, "Your tie is crooked. It doesn't look good for the company image. Sit up straight, and I'll retie it for you."
Alexander remained silent, and so did Gavin, who was driving.
Gavin was a very skilled driver whose driving skills could rival those of professional race car drivers!
But at that moment, he almost crashed into a tree. He broke out in a cold sweat, made a sharp brake, and then quickly turned the steering wheel, narrowly avoiding the tree.
Alexander quickly pulled Elizabeth into his arms to prevent her from hitting her head.
Elizabeth glanced at Gavin, asking, "Gavin, what's wrong? Are you very tired today?"
After asking, she turned to Alexander, saying, "I've never seen Gavin rest. Why don't you give him some time off to rest? It's normal to be tired after working so hard and driving while fatigued."
Alexander replied, "Okay, I'll give him more time off in the future."
Gavin hiccuped several times in a row.
"Gavin, are you sick?" Elizabeth asked with concern.
Gavin remained silent.
He was just overwhelmed by their affection!
At that moment, Gavin was truly caught off guard!
He had gotten used to it over time, but he had never seen Elizabeth take the initiative.
Elizabeth's unintentional, natural intimacy with Alexander was too much for Gavin to handle.
Before Gavin could respond, Alexander let out a loud hiccup.
Elizabeth looked at Alexander, asking, "What's wrong with you?"
