Chapter 100 Stopping the Wedding
Simon was caught off guard for a second but kept his cool, asking, "Elizabeth, what are you talking about?"
Elizabeth, sounding desperate, replied, "Mr. Jones, you gotta help me! My phone broke yesterday, and I can't reach anyone. I need to see Alexander. Where's he getting married? I have to find him. Please, Mr. Jones, tell me."
"Calm down, Elizabeth. What happened? Why do you need to find Alexander? He's getting married today. If you need help, I can assist you," Simon said, trying to stay patient.
"No one can help me with this. Just tell me where the wedding is," Elizabeth's voice was frantic.
She was practically shouting.
So loud that Declan could hear her.
The whole Jones family was getting ready for Alexander's wedding.
Declan was tight with Marcus, and everyone in the Windsor family respected him. Plus, Declan was always fair. Six months ago, during a nasty family feud, Marcus's eldest grandson, Brent, wanted Declan to back him up to take down Alexander.
Back then, Declan had said, "Brent, even though Alexander is an illegitimate child with no inheritance rights in your Windsor family, he's still a Windsor in my eyes. I treat everyone in the Windsor family equally. I won't get involved in your internal disputes, no matter who's right or wrong. I won't help you, and I won't help Alexander. But no matter who ends up leading the Windsor family, I'll still be your elder. I just don't want to see you tearing each other apart."
Declan's words had left a big impression on Brent.
And Alexander, who was in a tough spot at the time, heard about it too.
So, when Alexander turned things around, he kept in touch with the Jones family. Because of Alexander, the Jones family's status in Sunwillow City went up a notch.
So today, even though Alexander's wedding was low-key and not many people knew about it, the whole Jones family in Sunwillow City was going to the wedding.
Everyone was dressed to the nines.
But then, Simon got the call from Elizabeth.
Declan overheard the conversation. Yesterday, Elizabeth had smashed her phone in The Windsor Manor's hall, swearing off all contact. How was it that just a day later, she was already bothering Simon?
Declan snatched Simon's phone and angrily scolded, "You're causing trouble again! Were all your promises at The Windsor Manor yesterday just lies? Was it all part of your scheme? You're really something, messing around with Owen, Samuel, Simon, and Alexander. What are you up to? Do you think you can just play around with the upper class like this? Do you even want to live?"
Simon looked at Declan in shock and said, "Grandpa."
On the other end, Elizabeth was still on the line. She didn't dare hang up, afraid she wouldn't be able to reach Simon again. She couldn't let Clara and Alexander get married.
She couldn't let this happen!
She was the one who had sex with Alexander.
Alexander was her man, her only man, and the father of her unborn child.
She couldn't let anyone take Alexander away from her.
Especially not the Guise family, and definitely not Clara.
Elizabeth's hatred was burning hotter than ever.
On the other end, Declan kept ranting, and Elizabeth just listened. Eventually, Simon took the phone back and asked, "Elizabeth, where are you? I'll come get you."
Elizabeth, her voice trembling with excitement, replied, "Mr. Jones, please come get me. I really need your help. I'm at the alley outside my rental, next to a public restroom."
"Okay, I got it!"
"Please, you have to come. I'll be waiting for you!" Elizabeth had never felt more desperate for Simon's help.
After hanging up, Elizabeth dragged her two large plastic bags and hid in the bank's self-service ATM across the street, closing the door behind her.
She quietly watched the outside.
Meanwhile, Simon pulled Declan into the study and said, "Grandpa! Elizabeth might be my aunt's daughter. Can't you help her? Look, she looks so much like my aunt!"
Simon pointed to a photo on the desk.
The photo was old and yellowed, but it did bear a striking resemblance to Elizabeth.
Declan, still fuming, said firmly, "She can't be your aunt's daughter! If your aunt were such a vain and cheap woman, she wouldn't have left home with such strong self-respect and stayed away for thirty years! There are many people who look alike in this world. Elizabeth is not your aunt's daughter! No way!"
Simon didn't argue with Declan anymore. He slammed the door and left.
"Come back here, come back!" Declan shouted angrily behind him.
But Simon was already gone.
He drove straight to the location Elizabeth mentioned without hesitation.
Declan immediately called over his family's driver and instructed, "Take the shortcut. No matter what, get Elizabeth back before Simon! No, I'll go with you. Take the shortcut and drive as fast as possible!"
"Understood, Mr. Jones," the driver responded and drove off, taking Declan straight to the slum where Elizabeth was.
Declan arrived five minutes before Simon. However, after getting out of the car, Declan couldn't see Elizabeth around the public restroom. He looked around but couldn't find where Elizabeth was hiding.
Declan angrily hit the car and shouted, "Elizabeth is always so cunning! I can't let Simon be fooled by her like the other men!"
Just then, Simon arrived. Seeing Declan there, Simon was furious and asked, "Grandpa, where did you hide Elizabeth?"
"She doesn't dare come out!" Declan said angrily, "I want to see if she dares to come over with me here!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Elizabeth suddenly emerged from the ATM, carrying two large plastic bags, shouting, "Mr. Simon Jones, I'm here. Quick, take me to see Alexander!"
Simon immediately got in the car, made a sharp U-turn, and pulled up beside Elizabeth. Elizabeth got in, Simon loaded the luggage, and within half a minute, the car sped away.
Simon took Elizabeth straight to Alexander's wedding venue.
