Chapter 299 Secretly Photographing Elizabeth
Harper wiped the iron box in her hand and explained in a slightly self-deprecating tone, "Don't be fooled by the old box; the stuff inside is good. It's oil made from baby mice."
Julia was stunned, "What?"
Elizabeth was also taken aback.
Harper took another big gulp of stew, swallowing as she explained, "It's baby mice, the kind just born, still hairless. Soak them in oil for a few months and then filter out the oil."
Julia was stunned, asking, "What's that for? Harper, don't tell me you have a fiery temper and that you eat weird stuff too. Other people use pepper as seasoning, and you use mouse oil!"
Harper didn't get angry at Julia's words.
Harper didn't have friends. People like Elodie, the high-society ladies, always treated her like a lapdog.
She used to look down on commoners like Julia, so she never had friends. Until yesterday, when her parents kicked her out of the house, the only person she could think of was Julia as she walked down the street.
Unexpectedly, when Julia saw her in such a sorry state, she immediately showed concern in her eyes.
Harper was quite grateful.
She slapped Julia's hand away in annoyance, saying, "I bought this from a servant I know. That servant used to take care of Elodie and me when we were kids. Someone in that servant's family was a healer, and they knew this effective remedy. If you apply this baby mouse oil to any scars on your skin, it won't leave any marks. I'm worried about Mrs. Windsor's face. I've been carrying this scar-removal remedy with me since the day before yesterday."
After saying that, she handed the scar-removal remedy to Elizabeth, saying, "Mrs. Windsor, I see there's still a mark on your face. This really works; I'm not lying."
Elizabeth was silent.
She could see that Harper was genuinely sincere, so she took the small iron box and opened it.
The oil inside didn't smell bad; it had a refreshing scent. She dabbed a bit and applied it to the inside of her wrist.
Harper and Julia were puzzled.
After a while, Julia asked, "Elizabeth, what are you doing?"
Elizabeth replied, "I'm checking if I'm allergic to it. If I'm not, I can use it."
After saying that, she applied another layer.
After a few minutes, the skin on the inside of her wrist was still fine, not allergic, but very greasy.
"Do you have any tissues?" Julia asked.
Elizabeth looked around, having only brought her phone, no bag.
Harper didn't even have her phone.
The three of them looked at each other.
They realized that in a $999 per person buffet restaurant, there were no tissues.
Julia asked, "What do we do? Your hand is greasy."
Elizabeth laughed, "This won't stump me; watch this!"
With that, she suddenly lifted the lining of her skirt and wiped the oil off her wrist clean. After wiping, she put the lining back inside, and it was completely unnoticeable.
Julia and Harper were stunned by her action.
Julia exclaimed softly, "Elizabeth, I can't believe you know how to do that!"
Elizabeth smiled proudly, showing two dimples, "I know a lot more!"
Julia was even more interested, saying, "Tell us, what other amazing tricks do you have?"
Elizabeth tilted her head and thought, like a little girl, with a proud expression, saying, "For example, if you're walking down the street eating barbecue with your boyfriend, and you get greasy hands but have no tissues, what do you do? You just casually stick your hands in your jeans pockets, and the pocket fabric can wipe your hands."
She added, "And if you're shopping with your friends, sweating all over, and your crush calls to say he'll be there in five minutes, but you don't have any tissues to wipe your sweat, what do you do? You can lift the lining of your skirt and wipe the sweat. These are my little life hacks."
Julia immediately burst into laughter.
Harper laughed too.
At that moment, she suddenly found Elizabeth genuinely adorable.
Elizabeth wasn't pretentious or affected, just like a girl. At that moment, Harper realized that Elizabeth's silence and reticence depended on the person.
When Elizabeth was relaxed and happy, she wasn't reticent at all but was radiant.
Harper relaxed too, saying, "Elizabeth. No, Mrs. Windsor, I really admire you."
"Call me Elizabeth. Mrs. Windsor sounds too formal."
"Elizabeth."
"Yes."
"You're amazing!"
"You're pretty impressive too. When I first joined the company, you intimidated me."
"You retaliated in the same way, and I didn't gain any advantage."
Elizabeth smirked, "Now you know what it means when they say a barking dog doesn't bite."
Julia teased, "You're comparing yourself to a biting dog, Elizabeth."
"Eat your food!" Elizabeth immediately picked up a piece of food and stuffed it into Julia's mouth.
The three girls laughed and joked, very happy.
Not far away, two men eating at the buffet were watching them intently.
"Elizabeth is truly beautiful. She's beautiful when she's silent, beautiful when she's resilient yet unyielding, and even more beautiful when she's laughing heartily. I can suddenly understand why Alexander chose her over Molly, Clara, or any other woman in Sunwillow City. She is indeed a special girl," said a man in a flashy suit to his companion.
The other man, in a blue suit with a refined demeanor, said, "I've always known she is special. She's poised, calm, composed, and unflappable. She's the most unique girl I've ever seen, despite all the hardships she's been through."
"Simon, do you like Elizabeth?"
"No!" The usually composed Simon immediately got angry, refuting.
"Then what is it?"
"It's familial affection!" Simon rolled his eyes, saying, "But you, Robert! Don't even think about Elizabeth. If you dare, you'll be in trouble, and so will Elizabeth. Alexander's wife is off-limits, not just to you, but even Gideon wouldn't dare. Don't say I didn't warn you!"
Robert scoffed and laughed, then picked up his phone to take a picture.
Simon immediately became alert and asked, "What are you doing?"
