Chapter 163 The Wealthiest Rich Woman

Elizabeth found the marriage certificate glaring.

She and Alexander had no feelings for each other. To be precise, it was Alexander who had no feelings for her. In a loveless marriage, what difference did it make if she bore the title of Alexander's wife?

She had always been self-aware. Standing outside Alexander's car, she said calmly, "I can go back on my own. Thank you for not pursuing the million dollars I owe you and for marrying me. You should go to the company; I won't hold you up."

Gavin stood silently nearby.

In his heart, he thought, 'Mrs. Windsor, Mr. Windsor never intended for you to repay that million dollars. His money is all yours now! You're the richest woman in all of Sunwillow City!'

Gavin thought this but dared not say it aloud, only looking at Alexander, who spoke coldly, "You're too wishful thinking. I never intended to forgive the million dollars you owe me!"

Elizabeth remained silent.

Alexander turned and got into the car, then ordered Gavin who stayed silent, "Drive to the company."

After a few seconds, Gavin drove away, leaving Elizabeth standing alone with the marriage certificate, stunned.

Elizabeth knew that since Alexander had married her, he would never make her repay the money. Wanting to give Alice a complete family, he wouldn't let his biological daughter Alice live the kind of childhood he had.

What he said earlier was just out of anger.

But Elizabeth couldn't feel happy at all.

With her being safe and Alice having a home, what about Samuel?

Samuel who had sacrificed so much for her just had been exiled abroad, dead or alive, without a trace.

And her mother.

Elizabeth used to be uncertain every day whether she was alive or dead, having no means to think about her mother who had been dead for six years. And she still hadn't been able to return to her hometown to visit her mother's grave, even not knowing if her mother's grave had been dug up by the Guise family.

She didn't know, not daring to think about it.

At this moment, knowing she was safe and that Alexander wouldn't harm her anymore, Elizabeth began to think about her mother and Esme's death again.

Holding the marriage certificate, Elizabeth took a car to Esme's grave. When she came in front of Esme's tombstone, she burst into tears.

"Esme, I'm sorry. I haven't been able to visit you for over six years. Do you know? Our fate was really destined. I'm now your daughter-in-law again. And I gave you a granddaughter. If only I had known that the child in my womb was your biological granddaughter when you were alive, how wonderful that would have been. Next time, I'll bring Alice to visit you, okay, Mom?"

Not far away, a few rows diagonally from Esme's tombstone, Gavin stood there.

As soon as Gavin drove Alexander away from City Hall, Alexander irritably ordered him, "Stop the car!"

Gavin looked at Alexander in confusion, asking, "What's wrong, Mr. Windsor?"

Alexander repeated, "Stop the car!"

Gavin didn't dare disobey, immediately stopping the car, and watching Alexander get out. Gavin was so scared that he immediately opened the door to get out, but Alexander stopped him. "Follow her!"

Gavin stayed silent.

"Hurry up!"

"Mr. Windsor, you mean Mrs. Windsor?"

Alexander replied irritably, "Don't disturb her! She won't appreciate it!"

Gavin immediately said, "Yes, Mr. Windsor!"

He didn't dare disobey Alexander's orders, following Elizabeth from a distance, watching her get into a taxi and arrive at Esme's grave. Of course, Gavin couldn't hear what Elizabeth was saying.

He moved further away, taking out his phone to call Alexander. "Mr. Windsor, Mrs. Elizabeth Windsor has come to visit Mrs. Esme Windsor. I saw her crying a lot. She seems to be saying that in a few days, she will bring Miss Alice here."

Gavin felt a pang of sadness as he spoke.

On the other end, Alexander said, "Got it."

Gavin asked, "Mr. Windsor, should I..."

"Keep following her!" Alexander ordered.

"Okay." After hanging up, Gavin continued to find a hidden spot to watch Elizabeth.

Elizabeth was still murmuring in front of Esme's grave, her voice so low that only she could hear, "Mom, at least you and Felix had some love. But what about me and Alexander? We have nothing. He hates me. If it weren't for the fact that I gave him a daughter, he might have wanted to kill me. Please, tell me what I should do. How should I live?"

She added, "Give me some strength. I hope to find a job in this city to support myself, and save some money so I can go back to my hometown to honor my mom. She is so pitiful, and I don't even know how she died. Mom, if you can hear me in heaven, please bless me."

Elizabeth prayed in front of Esme's grave for the entire morning, only leaving when it was time for lunch.

She ate a little at a nearby restaurant, then sat in a park and browsed job ads on her phone.

She had no other skills, only architectural design.

She had no degree, not even experience working in a big city company. She had only worked on construction sites in Collinsport for five years.

After browsing for an hour, she selected five companies she thought she had a chance with, then called them one by one.

She didn't expect that the first question each person asked was about her degree that she couldn't answer.

The other party would then scold her, "Miss, we don't need a janitor. If you call us with such harassment again, we'll sue you!"

No one wanted to hear about her work experience.

With no other options, Elizabeth thought of another way. She decided to go to a cyber cafe to type up her resume, and sending it out. She would note in her resume that if given an interview opportunity, she would present her drawings and detailed annotations.

Keeping this plan in mind, Elizabeth asked everyone she met, "Excuse me, is there a cyber cafe nearby?"

She asked several people in a row, but no one knew. Finally, she asked a janitor cleaning nearby, who told her, "You might find a cyber cafe in the building there."

"Thank you," Elizabeth said, immediately walking toward the building across the street.

It was a mixed-use building, with cosmetics on the first floor, shoes and bags on the second, high-end fashion brands from the third to the sixth, and various offices above the sixth floor.

Elizabeth found the cyber cafe in the directory next to the elevator, pressing the button to go up.

As the elevator doors opened, a woman stepped out, sarcastically asking, "Elizabeth! What are you doing here?"
