Chapter 361 Love's Chocolate

Elizabeth was startled. "What's wrong?"

Did he think she spent too much?

Didn't he say she could spend it all?

She hadn't even spent it all, just ninety thousand dollars, but he was already upset.

Alexander, that jerk, went back on his word!

Elizabeth was both angry and scared.

"Didn't I tell you to spend it all? You were out all day, shopping all day, and you only spent over ninety thousand dollars? You..." Alexander didn't even know what to say to her.

Elizabeth angrily raised her hand and punched him in the chest. "You scared me to death!"

Alexander still had a cold expression and spoke seriously, "I gave you a task to spend a million dollars, and you didn't finish it. How should I punish you?"

She still remembered how she couldn't handle his punishment last night.

At the mention of punishment, her face turned red with embarrassment.

It took her a while to calm down, and then she smiled gently. "I've never been extravagant my whole life. My mom taught me to be frugal when I was young. I think women can have a lot of clothes, and I agree that a woman's wardrobe is always missing one piece, but it doesn't have to be expensive. What's suitable is the best."

"Besides, Julia and Harper don't like buying extravagant things either. After all, we're all working class, and dressing too flashy isn't good. I even think spending nearly a hundred thousand dollars in one day is already quite wasteful."

She spoke earnestly.

He knew she wasn't a girl who liked extravagance; she had a sense of proportion.

She wouldn't lose her head just because she suddenly had money.

Alexander suddenly felt that, in this regard, she was very much like his mother.

During those years when Esme took him abroad to escape, Esme actually worked as an architectural designer and earned a good salary, but she always lived a planned life and never spent money recklessly.

She was a good woman who managed the household frugally.

Elizabeth was the same.

No wonder Esme got along so well with Elizabeth when she was in prison.

Alexander felt a warmth in his heart, but his tone remained indifferent and cold. "Make it up to me tonight!"

Elizabeth was silent.

She saved him money, and she still had to make it up to him?

She immediately snatched the bank card from his hand and said fiercely, "Fine! I'll make it up to you tonight!"

She kept her word. After dinner and putting Alice to bed, she really climbed into his bed early, snuggling under the covers and waiting for him.

However, the reality was far from her imagination.

That night, Elizabeth really wanted to conquer Alexander for once.

But he still dominated.

In the end, Elizabeth was worse off than the night before.

But snuggling in his arms, she was genuinely happy.

She said, "I want to go back home."

Especially after meeting that disheveled old woman today, she wanted to go back and see Quiana's grave as soon as possible.

She really wanted to go back, wishing she could fly back right now.

Alexander kissed her forehead and said, "Take leave tomorrow. I'll book a flight for the afternoon."

"Thank you, darling." Elizabeth snuggled in Alexander's arms and fell asleep peacefully.

The next day, Monday.

Even though Elizabeth had been busy over the weekend, she still found time to draw some blueprints. In the morning, she planned to take these blueprints to ask Anna for leave.

She didn't want to take a long leave, just a week.

As she walked into the company with her briefcase, she ran into a few male colleagues.

Kieran got excited as soon as he saw Elizabeth. "Elizabeth! You have to give us souvenirs!"

Austin chimed in, "I want the best chocolate, Elizabeth. I'm dating someone now. Can you give me an extra one to impress my girlfriend?"

In the past, Elizabeth would have blushed.

But now, her relationship with Alexander was getting sweeter and more public, so she felt it was only right for her colleagues to joke with her and ask for chocolate souvenirs.

Elizabeth smiled and agreed, "I'll buy the best chocolate for you all at lunch today. Everyone gets two boxes, but I have a condition."

Her colleagues got even more excited. "What's the condition? Tell us."

"I'm going back home for a week, so I might need you to help with some of my work. Is that okay?" Elizabeth felt a bit embarrassed. She always handled her own affairs and avoided troubling others if she could.

To her surprise, Kieran and Austin immediately assured her, "Don't worry about it. When you come back, you'll find everything in order."

Elizabeth smiled. "Thank you!"

The three of them walked into the office together. Elizabeth put down her bag and went to Anna's office to ask for leave. As expected, Anna approved it.

Coming out of Anna's office, Elizabeth felt incredibly excited.

The thought of flying back home this afternoon made her heart race.

She hadn't been back home since she was twelve, sixteen years ago?

Her old house, her father's grave, and Quiana's grave.

All morning, Elizabeth was filled with mixed emotions and couldn't focus on work.

"What's wrong, Elizabeth? You seem distracted." Harper came up to her, but Elizabeth didn't even notice.

"Harper, do you need something?"

"It's time for lunch!"

"After lunch, you and Julia come with me to buy chocolate."

"Of course, I can go with you, but Julia can't. She's having lunch with Mr. Jones."

"They're moving fast. Julia, that girl who forgets her friends when she has a boyfriend! We won't give her any chocolate!"

Harper laughed and nodded. "Absolutely!"

After lunch, Elizabeth and Harper left the company and went to a nearby chocolate shop.

Just as they walked past, a pair of vicious eyes glared at them from behind.
