Chapter 58 Elizabeth Slaps Clara

Elizabeth asked coldly, "When, what time?"

Clara immediately replied, "Four in the afternoon!"

"Fine, I'll go. But I have one condition," Elizabeth said, "You must not disturb Aunt Esme, or I won't be polite to you!"

Clara laughed arrogantly. She said mockingly, "Elizabeth, you talk as if Esme is really your mother. Don't forget, you're the fake one, I'm the real one. Aunt Esme is my fiancé's mother. How could I possibly harm her? You're worrying for nothing."

"As long as you know she's Alexander's mother. I'll be there at four o'clock sharp," Elizabeth said, then hung up.

Elizabeth was about to go into her office to tidy up before heading to a restaurant for lunch when her phone rang again. She thought it was Clara calling back and was already annoyed, but when she saw it was an unknown number, she calmed down and asked, "Hello, who is this?"

"Mrs. Windsor." came Gavin's voice from the other end.

Elizabeth blushed and her tone became more cheerful. She said shyly, "Gavin, you know I'm just pretending. Please don't call me Mrs. Windsor anymore. Just call me Elizabeth. Is there something you need?"

Gavin said over the phone, "Go to the front desk on the first floor, right now."

Elizabeth asked, "What? Why should I go there?"

A thought popped into her mind, 'Could it be that Alexander had come to her office to have lunch with me?'

 She wouldn't dare go down.

After all, this was her workplace, and she didn't want to draw more attention to herself.

"Mr. Windsor is very busy today," Gavin said over the phone.

Elizabeth felt a small pang of disappointment.

"He doesn't have time, so he instructed me to order takeout for you and have it delivered to your office. The delivery person just called me; he's there now. Go pick it up. This is my first time ordering takeout for you, so I hope it suits your taste," Gavin said warmly and considerately.

In fact, Alexander hadn't asked Gavin to order takeout for Elizabeth.

Alexander was a stern and cold-hearted man, but he wasn't meticulous enough to think of ordering lunch for Elizabeth. It was Gavin's idea

Gavin had been with Alexander for many years, and majority of the people, both familiar and unfamiliar, including the entire Windsor family, saw Gavin as just an ordinary driver by Alexander's side. No one usually gave Gavin a second thought.

Despite being Alexander's most important subordinate and bodyguard.

Only Elizabeth, not knowing his significance as Alexander's bodyguard, had thoughtfully prepared a hand warmer for him.

At that moment, Gavin was moved.

Whether Elizabeth was the real Mrs. Windsor or not, Gavin respected her as if she were truly Alexander's wife.

Gavin knew better than anyone how much Elizabeth needed money.

He thought it over and decided to order lunch for Elizabeth in Alexander's name.

As expected, when Elizabeth heard that Alexander had ordered lunch for her, she immediately smiled happily. She politely said, "Gavin, please thank Mr. Windsor for me. I will do my utmost to take good care of Aunt Esme. I really hope that because of me, Aunt Esme can live an extra month, ten days, or even just one day. I will do my best."

Gavin said, "On behalf of Mr. Esme Windsor, thank you."

"Then I'll hang up now," she said cheerfully, like a happy bird.

Gavin immediately replied, "Alright, Mrs. Windsor. Goodbye."

After hanging up, Elizabeth jogged to the elevator and went to the front desk on the first floor. As expected, there was a takeout order for Elizabeth. It wasn't too extravagant, but it was quite sumptuous.

Elizabeth looked at it and shook her head with a smile.

Such a hearty lunch, she couldn't possibly finish it all.

However, Elizabeth felt a sweet warmth in her heart.

Carrying the takeout, Elizabeth walked to the employee cafeteria with a smile. Before she could enter, she ran into Owen and his inseparable friend Samuel.

"Have you latched onto some new rich guy these past two days, Elizabeth?" Owen blocked her path and asked flippantly.

Elizabeth looked up and smiled at Owen, her smile was radiant.

Owen was stunned once again.

This was the second time he had seen Elizabeth smile like this. The first time was three days ago when she was eating a cafeteria lunch outside the company.

"Mr. Tudor, I haven't seen you these past two days. Have you been busy?" Elizabeth asked, her eyes crinkling with her smile.

Owen nodded mechanically.

"Mr. Tudor, no matter how busy you are, don't forget that I'll be getting my paycheck in a few days. I promised to treat you to a meal and repay you. Don't forget that," Elizabeth reminded Owen with a smile.

Owen was still in a daze when he responded, "I won't forget."

"My takeout is too much for me today. Would you like to share it with me? And your friend too?" Elizabeth asked warmly.

Owen shook his head, refusing her offer.

"Then I'll eat," Elizabeth said, and left with the takeout.

Owen watched her for a long time.

Until Elizabeth turned a corner and entered the employee cafeteria, Owen smacked his lips and said to Samuel, "Samuel, Elizabeth is acting very strange today. Not only is she not cold, but she's also smiling warmly. Are you sure this is the same cold and not-so-bright Elizabeth?"

Samuel also stared at the spot where Elizabeth had disappeared, rubbing his chin and muttering, "Elizabeth is interesting."

Elizabeth entered the employee cafeteria. Unable to finish such a hearty lunch by herself, she shared a large portion with two colleagues from the same office.

After lunch, Elizabeth seized every moment to complete the tasks assigned to her by several designers. By 3:30 PM, Elizabeth blushed slightly and said to her colleagues, "I'm sorry, I'll take the work you gave me home to continue to work on them tonight. Can I leave a bit early today? I have something to do."

"Yeah! Designers don't always have to work overtime!" Her colleagues were particularly understanding today.

Elizabeth knew it was because of the sumptuous lunch she had shared.

She grabbed her bag, took the bus, and went to the hospital where Esme was.

Elizabeth arrived at the entrance at exactly 3:58 PM. She glanced around, and a sarcastic voice came from behind her, "Don't look around, I'm right behind you."

Elizabeth turned to Clara. She asked coldly, "What do you want?"

"I want to show you something," Clara said, pulling out her phone and showing a video to Elizabeth.

As Elizabeth watched, she gradually became so angry that she started trembling. She raised her arm and slapped Clara hard across the face.

Clara staggered from the blow, tears of pain welling up. "Elizabeth, how dare you hit me in broad daylight. Don't forget, I'm Mr. Windsor's real fiancée!"

"That's not certain! And don't forget, I am now Alexander's legal wife!" Elizabeth said fiercely.

Caught up in the heated exchange, she didn't notice that a pair of eyes was watching her from behind.
