Chapter 339 You're Crazy Too
Elodie asked, "Mr. Lavien, I'm Elodie Williams. Didn't Grandpa Jones talk to you? He asked me to be your date today."
Meanwhile, Harper was also stunned, at a loss.
She had never been to such a place for rich people, and she was already lacking confidence. If what Elodie said was true, and she ended up alone and ridiculed by everyone, she really didn't know if she would survive the embarrassment.
But what was happening now?
Was Robert calling her?
Harper's face immediately turned red with embarrassment.
She never used to blush, but now she cared more about her image and found herself blushing more often.
Harper bit her lip, calling out, "Mr. Lavien."
"Silly girl! How silly you are!" Robert put his arm around Harper's shoulder. "You have a rich, handsome, and powerful boyfriend like me, and yet you let others mock you. Luckily, I arrived in time. If I hadn't, your cousin would have bullied you to death!"
Harper remained silent.
Elodie said, "Mr. Lavien! Let go of her! Do you know who she is?"
"Elodie." Harper tried to calm Elodie down. After all, Elodie was her cousin.
"Shut up, bitch!" Elodie was furious! She was used to scolding Harper and had never held back from childhood to adulthood.
"You!" Harper was so angry at Elodie's insult that she wanted to curse her back.
She wasn't afraid of Elodie anymore, feeling disgusted and wanting to lash out.
But Harper considered Elizabeth's reputation. She knew it wasn't easy for Elizabeth to come to The Windsor Manor, enduring many hardships. As Elizabeth's friend, Harper couldn't cause a scene.
She held back, her eyes red, and in a calm but firm tone, she said to Elodie, "Elodie, this is a public place, and we're at the Windsor Family's entrance. It's very unbecoming to insult people here. We're family. If you have any issues with me, let's discuss them at home, okay? I did agree to be Mr. Lavien's date today, and even this dress was custom-made by him. Honestly, I know I don't belong here. But Mr. Lavien asked me for a favor because he didn't have a date. Now, if you say you're his date, let Mr. Lavien clarify. If he says you're his date, I'll leave immediately. Is that okay?"
These words were from Harper.
She wasn't raised to be so reasonable, and she usually couldn't argue well. But she felt she had to do this.
Only by doing this could she preserve Elizabeth's dignity, avoiding escalating the situation, and maintaining her own dignity.
After speaking, Harper bravely looked at Robert, asking, "Mr. Lavien, you said you'd pick me up today, but you had something come up, so I came alone. If you had picked me up, no one would doubt me now. So please, clarify to Elodie and me, who is your date?"
After speaking, Harper looked sternly at Elodie.
Elodie was nervous, having never seen Harper so assertive.
Harper had always been a henchman in front of her, without her own thoughts or opinions, but she could be a fierce dog.
Now Harper didn't want to be a dog anymore.
Not only that, she was even reprimanding her.
Elodie looked at Robert with extreme guilt.
Robert sneered coldly, "Elodie! Who do you think you are! Owen dumped you, and you still want to cling to me? Do you think I'm picking up trash?"
Elodie was silent.
Nothing could describe her face at that moment.
"And remember, Elodie! Harper is my girlfriend! If you know what's good for you, get out of her house! You stay at her parents' house and insult her. No normal person would treat someone like that, except you. No wonder Owen doesn't want you!" Robert was always sharp-tongued.
He used to be merciless to Harper when he didn't like her.
Now he was even harsher to Elodie.
Seeing Elodie so embarrassed, Harper quietly tugged on Robert's sleeve. "Mr. Lavien."
Robert softened his tone a bit, "If it weren't for the fact that you're my girlfriend's cousin, I would have slapped you down the hill for your attitude towards her! Sorry, but I do hit women!"
Elodie was silent.
If the last time at Molly's conspiracy party for Elizabeth was humiliating, it was understandable because all the women targeting Elizabeth were humiliated.
But now, in front of so many high-society people, Elodie thought it would be her chance to turn things around, but it was even more humiliating than last time. Her face went from red to pale, to now embarrassed and ashamed.
Elodie felt dizzy, hearing the whispers around her.
"So embarrassing!"
"Who told her she was Mr. Lavien's date?"
"She was dumped by Mr. Tudor, so she's fantasizing."
"She wasn't dumped by Mr. Tudor; it was fake, fake!"
"Mr. Tudor would never want her."
"Mr. Tudor doesn't want her, and she still dreams of marrying Mr. Lavien. She's crazy."
"But her cousin is very reserved and self-respecting."
"That's why her cousin is truly Mr. Lavien's girlfriend."
Hearing the surrounding comments, Elodie's mind felt like it was exploding. She mumbled, "No, it's not like that. I am."
Before she could finish, Elizabeth stood in front of her, calmly saying, "Elodie, Harper is my friend. This is my home. You insulted my friend in front of me. I must intervene. Please apologize to my friend, and then leave!"
Elodie was silent.
"Who told you this is your home? Are you crazy?" A haughty, disdainful voice came from behind.
