Chapter 359 Really Want to Go Back

She was a disheveled, ragged woman.

Elizabeth couldn't see her face clearly, but she noticed her unsteady steps and immediately thought the woman was not young.

In just a few seconds, the woman crossed the street and ran away.

Elizabeth stood alone outside the car, feeling a bit melancholic.

"Mom," Alice called out.

Elizabeth said, "Yes, sweetheart?"

"What's wrong, Mom?" Alice asked.

Elizabeth shook her head.

She couldn't tell Alice that the ragged woman seemed somewhat familiar to her, maybe she had mistaken her for someone else.

She shook her head vigorously, trying to shake off the thought.

"Are you okay, Mom?" Alice thought Elizabeth was scared.

Elizabeth shook her head, "I'm sorry, sweetheart." She thought it was her poor driving skills that caused the incident as soon as she started driving.

Unexpectedly, a person standing by the roadside said to her, "It's not your fault. You were driving very slowly. It was that old woman who was acting suspiciously. She was walking and peeking into our neighborhood. She walked into your car on her own. It's not your responsibility; it's hers!"

Elizabeth smiled politely, "It's okay, as long as she's fine. If she hadn't run away, I could have taken her to see a doctor. Now I don't know if she's hurt."

Elizabeth was sincere.

After all, she was driving, and the other person was walking.

The person standing there snorted, "People like her are guilty of something. Recently, I've noticed her peeking into our neighborhood three times. Our neighborhood is the most upscale in all of Sunwillow City. The people living here are either rich or noble. She's a homeless woman, definitely looking to steal something. And you, young mother, should be careful and watch your child. There are many bad people in society nowadays."

The person was kindly reminding Elizabeth.

Elizabeth understood and said to the person, "Thank you for the reminder."

With that, she got back into the car.

Starting the engine again, Elizabeth still drove steadily, but her mind kept thinking about the disheveled, ragged woman.

The woman had a certain smell.

It was the smell of sweat from years of hard work, reminding her of her mother, Quiana.

When she was young, her father was in poor health, and all the heavy chores were done by Quiana alone. At that time, Elizabeth was still very young, and Quiana couldn't leave her behind, so she carried Elizabeth on her back while working. Elizabeth often fell asleep on her back, and the first thing she smelled when she woke up was the sweat on Quiana's back.

Elizabeth kept thinking about Quiana as she drove with Alice to meet Julia and Harper at the mall.

Three women and a child spent the whole day shopping crazily in the mall.

At noon, they had a buffet on the sixth floor of the mall.

Alice, Julia, and Harper got along very well. In just two days, Alice had formed a deep bond with them.

When Elizabeth went to the restroom alone, Alice confided to Julia and Harper, "Julia, Harper, I think my mom has something on her mind."

Julia immediately asked seriously, "What's wrong, sweetheart?"

"When my mom was driving out, she accidentally hit an old lady wearing dirty and ragged clothes. But actually, it was the lady who hit my mom's car. After the lady hit my mom's car, she didn't ask for compensation and ran away. But my mom has been unhappy since that. On the way here, I called her several times, but she didn't hear me."

Julia and Harper were silent.

This was indeed a big deal.

Julia comforted Alice, "It's okay, sweetheart. If your mom has any problems, Harper and I will help her solve them. Don't worry, Alice!"

Alice finally smiled and nodded.

At this moment, Elizabeth returned from the restroom. Seeing them looking at her, Elizabeth couldn't help but laugh, "Seeing your expressions, it's like you've seen money. You have bought so many clothes and shoes that they can't fit in the car, and now you're planning something against me?"

Actually, Elizabeth was very happy.

Despite spending a lot of money on Harper and Julia, she was very happy.

Alexander had given her a full million dollars to spend in one day.

Elizabeth had never shopped in such a mall before because she was too poor. She could only look but couldn't afford to buy anything.

Now, she finally brought Alice and her two good friends here, and she truly felt the pleasure of being served. Everywhere they went, they were welcomed like queens.

Three women and a five-year-old girl shopped crazily in the dazzling mall.

Elizabeth loved beauty, but she wasn't greedy for fashion or shopping.

However, she cared a lot about her friends.

Seeing Harper and Julia happy, Elizabeth was naturally very happy.

This happiness dispelled her sorrow when thinking about Quiana.

But Julia still asked, "Elizabeth, do you have something on your mind?"

Elizabeth was stunned, "No, why do you ask me that?"

"You've been a bit down today. Don't think Harper and I didn't notice. If you don't consider us friends, we won't accept the clothes you bought for us! You can take them all back yourself!" Julia said angrily.

Harper nodded, "Tell us, Elizabeth, and we'll solve it together. We got through the big event at The Windsor Manor yesterday, and what are you afraid of?"

Seeing them so concerned about her, Elizabeth couldn't help but smile, "It's nothing, really. When I left, I accidentally grazed a lady. The lady's back reminded me of my deceased mother. Actually, I've been planning to go back to my hometown recently. My mother is buried in our hometown cemetery. I'll ask for leave from the director on Monday and go back."

At this point, Elizabeth's expression turned sad, "Since I went to prison and went to college until now, it's been nine years. I haven't been back to my hometown for nine years. I don't even know where my mother is buried, and whether she's buried with my father. Does anyone visit their graves? I don't know."

By the end, Elizabeth's voice was very soft.

Julia and Harper didn't know what to say to comfort her.

Fortunately, at this moment, Elizabeth's phone rang. She looked at the unfamiliar number and hesitated before answering, "Hello, who is this?"
