Chapter 156 A Way to Coax Alice
Elizabeth was so startled that she immediately wanted to take back the utensils.
Just an hour ago, Alexander had just gotten the actress Laura drunk, unceremoniously kicking her out. Elizabeth and Alexander were having dinner together and both reached for the same chicken wing at the same time, causing her to grab his utensils.
Could anything be more nerve-wracking and awkward?
The more nervous Elizabeth got, the more she didn't know where to place her utensils. She wanted to let go, and he did the same, resulting in another unexpected incident.
Elizabeth quickly withdrew her hand.
So did Alexander.
Seeing his cold and stern expression, Elizabeth knew that if she didn't finish the food in her bowl tonight, he wouldn't let her off. Thinking of this, Elizabeth reached for the chicken wing again.
This time, they collided again.
Why did they keep reaching for the same chicken wing?
Elizabeth didn't dare to move.
Alexander let go of the utensils, and Elizabeth also took hers back, burying her head in eating other food instead of the chicken wing.
Alexander placed a chicken wing in her bowl. As soon as she finished the chicken wing, he placed a piece of beef in her bowl.
And so it went, she never looked up.
He kept adding food to her plate. Elizabeth, with great effort, managed to finish all the food despite feeling like she might burst. When she finally looked up, she realized that Alexander had also finished eating.
This meant he hadn't been just adding food to her plate; he had been eating as well.
Elizabeth couldn't help but marvel.
Alexander was, after all, a man, bigger than her and eating faster.
She couldn't help but recall last night when he had bitten her lips with his, completely covering them.
Thinking of this, she suddenly blushed.
"What's wrong?" Alexander asked.
"Thank you for finding a kindergarten for Alice and for setting up such a nice playroom for her," Elizabeth said sincerely.
"Add it to the debt you owe me!" Alexander said coldly.
He had set up the playroom for his own daughter; did he need her thanks?
Elizabeth couldn't believe that she should feel a warmth in her heart.
"In a moment, I'll put Alice to bed," Alexander said coldly.
Seeing Alexander's cold demeanor, Elizabeth didn't dare to ask why.
He got up and went to the playroom, Elizabeth watching as he closed the door to the playroom.
She got up and followed, looking in through the glass window.
Alexander was meticulously building a block house for Alice who lay beside him, watching happily and obediently.
Being an adult, the house he built was much more structurally sound and beautiful than the ones Alice built.
The block house reminded Elizabeth of her knowledge and love for architecture.
She loved architectural design.
Not just because she missed Esme, but because she genuinely loved the field.
Looking through the window, Elizabeth several times wanted to rush in, telling Alexander how to build the blockhouse to make it more sturdy, perfect, and beautiful.
However, Elizabeth didn't rush in.
She just stood outside the glass window, watching Alice and Alexander, the real father and daughter.
As Alexander was building seriously, Alice watched with a look of innocent happiness and admiration.
Elizabeth suddenly felt a sense of familial joy, even though she knew it was all an illusion, just her and Alice's wishful thinking.
But it was enough to make her feel a bit of warmth.
This made Elizabeth think of the day when she was twelve, sent to The Guise Villa by her mother to be fostered. From that day on, she watched the Guise family of three enjoying their happy life every day.
However, she was just an extra foster child.
She watched as Oliver and Lila lifted Clara high, tossed her up, and caught her again.
Every time, Clara would scream with delight.
However, she, like a stray dog, watched from the side, longing to be held by them, but it never happened.
Every year on Clara's birthday, the Guise family would throw a lavish and meaningful birthday party for Clara. Watching Clara in her princess dress, with a crown, make a wish in front of the big, beautiful cake, Elizabeth fantasized about having such a cake one day.
But it never happened.
Later, when Elizabeth found out she was pregnant with Alexander's child, her first thought was to never let her child live in poverty, lacking everything.
She wanted her child to have what she deserved.
Like now, Alice had Alexander by her side, like a happy princess.
Elizabeth quietly watched Alexander and Alice having a great time in the playroom, watching Alexander wash Alice's feet and put her to bed.
She watched as Alexander told her stories over and over until Alice fell asleep.
When Alexander came out of Alice's room and saw Elizabeth standing outside in a daze, he suddenly asked, "Aren't you tired?"
Elizabeth dumbly replied, "What did you say?"
"Why aren't you sleeping?" Alexander asked.
Elizabeth said, "I was waiting for you."
"Waiting for me?" Alexander smirked coldly, "Waiting for me to teach you how to serve a man? Waiting for me to bathe you personally? To carry you to bed? Or waiting for me to go further with you?"
Elizabeth blushed to her neck.
She didn't mean that.
She didn't know why she said that; what she really wanted to ask was where she was supposed to sleep tonight.
Was she supposed to sleep in his bedroom every night?
"No... I..." Elizabeth didn't finish her sentence before Alexander scooped her up.
Surprised, Elizabeth didn't scream, as Alexander silenced her, saying coldly, "Do you want to wake Alice up?"
Elizabeth didn't dare scream.
After all, he had done everything before; it was just a repeat of their previous sexual encounters.
However, to Elizabeth's surprise, he did bathe her personally, carrying her to bed, but he didn't take it any further.
He fell asleep quickly, and she slowly fell asleep in her anxiety.
She slept quite soundly that night.
When Elizabeth woke up again, it was already seven in the morning, and he was no longer in bed.
Elizabeth wrapped herself in his white shirt and came out, only to find that Alice was no longer in the children's room.
Elizabeth's heart was in her throat.
She immediately took out her phone, calling him.
On the other end, Alexander was driving Alice to the hospital. Seeing Elizabeth's call, he immediately answered, "Hello."
