Chapter 242 A Significant Identity
Elizabeth was taken aback for a moment, then took out her phone from her bag and saw that it was indeed turned off. She had turned it off yesterday because she didn't want to receive any more calls from her colleagues. After a few bickering words with Alexander, she had forgotten about it, not turning on her phone until now.
"What's the matter, Mrs. Campbell?" Elizabeth asked.
Mira looked a bit troubled and somewhat suspicious at Elizabeth, saying, "Elizabeth, the last time your husband brought you here, his demeanor made me think your family must be very wealthy, at least worth hundreds of millions of dollars. The last time I added you to this group chat, it was a circle of wealthy people. We had agreed to set up a separate class for our ten or so children and hire a few more teachers."
Elizabeth was a bit confused, asking, "Why set up a separate class?"
This kindergarten was already very good. Although it wasn't the top elite kindergarten in Sunwillow City, the children studying here also came from well-off families. The tuition was over a hundred thousand dollars, so how bad could the families be?
Moreover, Alice always thought this kindergarten was good.
Elizabeth looked at Mira, puzzled, asking, "Isn't it fine now? I think the kids attending this kindergarten all come from decent families."
Mira sighed. "Who knows? Just a few days ago, a child was forced to transfer out of this kindergarten. At first, everyone thought their family was worth tens of millions of dollars, but it turned out to be fake. They were heavily in debt, and the girl's mother even bought counterfeit brand-name bags."
"As a result, her counterfeit bag clashed with another mom's bag at our kindergarten. How embarrassing. It was only then that we found out their family didn't have tens of millions of dollars and didn't even own a property in Sunwillow City. It was all a facade! Very poor! Such people actually mingled into our kindergarten. Isn't that despicable? I'm telling you, their kids will lead our kids astray."
Elizabeth remained silent.
Seeing Mira speak so reasonably, with a face full of disdain for that parent, as if the parent was wearing dirty, smelly clothes and contaminating her, made Elizabeth find it amusing.
She thought Mira was very spiritually impoverished.
She didn't have a good impression of Mira to begin with, but Susan was a lovely and kind girl, who was Alice's best friend since Alice came to this kindergarten.
So, Elizabeth could only endure her dislike for Mira, watching her speak. She glanced at her watch and then said, "Sorry, Mrs. Campbell, if I don't go to work now, I'll be late. Could you please get to the point? I didn't turn on my phone yesterday. What did you need?"
Mira asked in a disgruntled tone, "You still work?"
Elizabeth nodded. "Yes."
Work was both honorable and proud!
Did anyone not want to work?
That was just Elizabeth's thought.
There were plenty of women in this world who didn't want to work. Many women who don't want to work might even look down on women like Elizabeth, who are busy working every day to earn a little salary.
"Mrs. Campbell, I'm really in a hurry. Could you please quickly tell me what you need?" Elizabeth asked anxiously.
"The group admin posted about this yesterday. Everyone wants to hold a party to discuss how to deal with this situation, how to prevent our children from being polluted. Also, it's a chance for us high-income, high-status families to get together, exchange ideas, and strengthen our bonds." Mira said.
Remaining silent, Elizabeth had no interest in gatherings. She would push it off if she could, but since this concerned Alice's learning environment, she had to comply.
"What's wrong, Ms. Spencer? You don't want to go? Is that why you didn't turn on your phone from yesterday to today and didn't respond?" Mira asked, somewhat aggressively.
"No, Mrs. Campbell, let's discuss it in the group chat. I have to go to work now." Elizabeth said.
Hearing Gavin's honking, she spoke while turning and running. She had already understood what Mira was talking about and couldn't waste any more time.
Behind her, Mira looked at Elizabeth's back and muttered, "I think you're just like that poor person. Look at what you're wearing today, so out of place. What company executive would dress like you? I bet you're doing some menial job, pretending to be something you're not! Just because you drive a nice car doesn't mean your family is rich. Maybe you rented that car. Otherwise, why would you avoid us and not respond to messages yesterday?"
Elizabeth naturally couldn't hear what Mira was saying. She got into the car and said to Gavin, "Gavin, please drive faster. I'm going to be late for work."
Gavin immediately responded, "Mrs. Windsor, please sit tight. I'll speed up right away."
Actually, he wanted to say that Elizabeth's time was tight, but Alexander's time was even tighter. What was she talking about with Mira?
But Gavin didn't ask, just driving both steadily and quickly.
In about twenty minutes, they arrived at the company.
Elizabeth checked her watch and saw she wasn't late, so she smiled. She turned back and cheerfully said to Alexander, "Bye-bye," then limped into the elevator.
Gavin, who was driving, immediately noticed something, asking, "Mr. Windsor, why is Mrs. Windsor limping a bit?"
Alexander replied, "Do you want your mouth sewn shut?"
Gavin said, "Mr. Windsor, please sit tight. I'll speed up right away!" Then he obediently shut up.
Elizabeth quickly entered the company, rushed to the design department, and had just put down her bag when Kieran, holding two cups of coffee, came up to her and handed her one. "Elizabeth, how did things go with your brother yesterday?"
Elizabeth replied, "Thanks, my brother is doing well now."
Just as she put down the coffee, another male colleague handed her a sandwich, saying, "Elizabeth, I saw you rushing in. You must have thought you were late and didn't have breakfast, right? Kieran gave you coffee, and I got you a sandwich. Now you have both food and drink."
Elizabeth remained silent. After a while, she smiled and thanked them, "Thank you."
Even so, a few female colleagues nearby still couldn't stand Elizabeth but didn't dare to say anything.
That day, Elizabeth was busy and fulfilled with work. As for the parents' group chat, since she had already heard from Mira, she didn't check it again, only replying at the end to ask when the party would be and to count her in.
After replying, Elizabeth didn't pay much attention to it.
For two days, there was no activity in Alice's parents' group chat, giving Elizabeth some peace.
And her work at the company went more smoothly than before. At least, the female colleagues no longer gossiped about her.
Great!
She was determined to do her job even better.
However, such peaceful days only lasted for two days. On the third day, while Elizabeth was engrossed in her work, a woman dressed in luxury and exuding an air of wealth suddenly stood beside her.
"May I ask who you are?" Elizabeth asked, sure she didn't know this woman.
The woman gave a fake smile. "Elizabeth, right? I know quite a lot about you!"
