Chapter 75 Making Elizabeth Disappear
Seeing Alexander's cold, gloomy face, Clara couldn't help but feel a bit hurt.
"Alexander, I know you told me not to come, but I was worried about you. I get that your mom's funeral is a big deal, and I shouldn't have interrupted, but Wesley..." Clara trailed off.
The mention of Wesley made Alexander's eyes narrow sharply.
Wesley again!
Before Esme passed away, Alexander had seen Wesley and Elizabeth arguing outside the hospital. And now, it was Wesley causing trouble again.
"Spit it out!" Alexander's voice was ice-cold.
"Can I talk about Elizabeth?" Clara asked.
"Go ahead."
Clara's heart leaped with joy.
Lila and Oliver were right. With Alexander's mom gone, he didn't need Elizabeth anymore. Perfect time to badmouth her.
Elizabeth's days were numbered!
"You never let me talk about this before, and I was too scared to. Elizabeth was a mess in college. My dad tried to control her, but she wouldn't listen, saying he wasn't her real dad. He gave her more allowance than me every month, but she'd blow through it in less than ten days. So, she started messing around with guys. Wesley..."
Clara paused, eyeing Alexander cautiously. "Elizabeth got pregnant with Wesley's kid. Now that Wesley's hit rock bottom and she can't get money from him, she wants to ditch him and even stabbed him. Wesley, pissed off, couldn't find Elizabeth, so he called the Guise family. He said that even if Elizabeth is under your protection now, she can't ignore him. If he gets pushed too far, he..."
Clara deliberately stopped there.
"Keep talking!" Alexander's eyes darkened even more.
"He said he'd take you down too." Clara looked up at Alexander cautiously. "Mr. Windsor, Wesley used to thrive on dirty deeds. Even though your power is much greater than his now, if he attacks you in secret, I'm afraid... you need to be on guard against him."
"You came here just to tell me this?" Alexander looked Clara up and down.
Clara, not wanting to leave a bad impression, had dressed up before coming. She wore a black coat to show respect for Esme, but her heavily made-up face and the pale yellow sweater peeking out from her coat made her look out of place.
Clara shyly nodded. "I'm worried about your safety."
She thought Alexander would keep her around to meet the guests, showing off her status. After all, once the funeral was over, they'd start planning their wedding.
Perfect chance to make her public!
But Alexander coldly said, "Go back!"
Clara was stunned.
"You're pregnant, and your condition was unstable a few days ago. You shouldn't have come!" Alexander said mercilessly.
He had no feelings for Clara, even though they had a physical relationship.
But Alexander couldn't ignore the child Clara was carrying. He didn't want his kid to have a rough childhood like he did. So, for the sake of the baby, he had to marry Clara.
Clara, scared by Alexander's harsh words, quickly stammered, "I'll leave now."
"Go back and rest! I told you not to come here! Once I finish up here, I'll come see you! Your main job right now is to take care of the baby!"
"Got it." Clara forced a smile and turned to leave.
Gavin immediately approached Alexander and asked, "Mr. Windsor, is what Miss Guise said true?"
Alexander didn't answer. He was thinking about something else. Was the baby Elizabeth was carrying Wesley's?
Seeing Alexander stay silent, Gavin asked again, "Mr. Windsor, we should be careful. Should I take care of Wesley?"
Alexander shook his head. "No rush. We'll deal with it after the funeral."
Alexander wasn't worried about Wesley causing trouble. If Wesley dared to show up, Alexander could make sure he wouldn't leave and could even take over Wesley's remaining assets.
So, Alexander was just waiting for Wesley to make a move.
But thinking about Elizabeth, a hint of displeasure crept into Alexander's eyes.
He didn't say anything more. He just wanted to focus on giving Esme a proper burial.
Esme was to be buried the next day.
After handling Esme's affairs, Alexander didn't dwell in sorrow but quickly threw himself back into the family business.
On the way to work, Gavin reminded Alexander, "Mr. Windsor, when I went to the hospital yesterday to collect Mrs. Esme Windsor's belongings, I saw that woman at the entrance."
"Who?" Even though Alexander asked, he had a good idea who Gavin meant.
"Elizabeth," Gavin said.
"Make her disappear!" Alexander said without hesitation.
Gavin was silent.
He didn't know how to comfort Alexander. Alexander had always asked him to find out who got Elizabeth pregnant, and it turned out to be Wesley?
That old rascal Wesley, Alexander's archenemy.
Elizabeth, the lover of Alexander's arch-enemy Wesley, had schemed to get close to Alexander. What was she up to?
But Gavin's gut told him Elizabeth wasn't that kind of woman.
"Today is the third day after the burial. Should we go to the cemetery now?" Gavin reminded Alexander.
"Yes, to my mother's grave."
Gavin drove to the cemetery where Esme was buried. Halfway there, a light drizzle began to fall. When they arrived at the cemetery, there weren't many people around. The large cemetery was quiet, and Esme's grave was in the best spot, the largest plot, with flowers all around it.
Alexander and Gavin, dressed in black and holding black umbrellas, entered the cemetery with solemn expressions. As soon as they stepped through the gate, the most prominent new grave immediately caught their eyes.
But they didn't expect to see someone kneeling in front of the grave.
