Chapter 366 I Hope You Never Regret It
Elizabeth's voice came from the other end. "Darling, this is the hotel phone. When you finish handling things in Sunwillow City and bring Alice over, make sure to call this number."
Alexander felt a sudden pang of sadness as he sensed her anxiety. Normally calm, she was now calling him repeatedly.
Alexander's voice softened. "I'll book the earliest flight and bring Alice to you. Make sure to cover yourself well when you sleep; it's colder there than it is here. Double-lock the hotel door. If anything unexpected happens, call me immediately. And also..."
"Darling! You're just like Alice!"
Alexander fell silent. Unknowingly, a warm smile spread across his face, stunning his nearby subordinates.
If Alexander didn't leave the conference room, none of his subordinates dared to leave either. They exchanged glances, hardly believing that this was the same Alexander who had been strategizing since his teens, had a strong influence in the mercenary world by the age of twenty, and took over the Windsor Group overnight without causing any instability. He had always been calm, yet now he was smiling warmly.
Gavin often remarked, "Mr. Windsor is becoming more and more gentle."
While his subordinates were still in shock, Alexander had already taken off his suit jacket to cover the sleeping Alice on the sofa, then gently picked her up.
"Daddy." Alice's childish voice was soft but full of attachment.
"Daddy will hold you gently. Alice, sleep tight," Alexander coaxed her softly.
With Alice nestled against him, sleeping soundly, Alexander carefully carried her outside and, once there, freed one hand to wave his subordinates away.
His subordinates watched from behind, deeply moved. Many suddenly felt the urge to be kinder to their own wives and children when they got home. After all, Alexander was leading by example!
Alexander carried Alice all the way down the elevator to the garage. Gavin, who was following behind, ran ahead to start the car and then drove straight to Alexander's residence.
"Mr. Windsor, how did the meeting go?" Gavin asked respectfully.
"Just as I predicted," Alexander replied.
As Gavin drove, he sighed. "I bet Declan will regret it one day."
Just as Gavin finished speaking, Alexander's phone rang again.
Alexander thought it was Elizabeth calling. If it were, he would tell her that Alice had fallen asleep in his arms. But when he looked at the caller ID, it was the Jones Family's landline.
Alexander immediately answered.
The sleeping Alice was awakened by the call. She curled up like a kitten in Alexander's arms, listening to him talk.
On the other end, it was indeed Declan. "Alexander. Don't blame me. For the last time, using my status as an elder, I have sent Clara and her parents to Star Island."
Hearing this, Alexander asked calmly, "Do you know where I am right now?"
Declan was silent.
"In the car. I haven't gone home yet. My daughter is right beside me. She was sleeping but was woken up by your call," Alexander said.
Declan replied softly, "I didn't know you had a child with you."
Alexander said impatiently, "Why did you call me?"
Declan sighed. "You really do know how to care for a child, and you should also understand my feelings for my granddaughter. My daughter is gone; I only have my granddaughter now. She has suffered for twenty years. She wanted to marry you and thus offended your wife. I knew you wouldn't let Clara off, so I had to send them to Star Island before you could act."
Alexander's tone remained calm. "Do you think sending them away makes them safe?"
Declan voice was firm. "I once told you that if you married Clara, I would do everything in my power to help you take Star Island. But now, since you won't marry Clara and want to harm her for your wife's sake, I will do everything to help Star Island resist you!"
Hearing this, Alexander was not surprised at all. He had already anticipated these matters during the meeting and had instructed his subordinates accordingly.
"Hope you never regret it," Alexander said.
Declan sensed something was off. "What do you mean?"
Alexander said, "My daughter wants to sleep. I'll hang up now."
After hanging up, Alice looked up at Alexander from his arms. "Daddy, was that the old man who bullied Mommy?"
He nodded.
She pouted. "He's so awful. The other day at Great-Grandpa's house, I wanted to use my slingshot to make him cry, but Mommy wouldn't let me. Even though he treated Mommy that way, she still protected him."
"Because your mommy values family ties too much."
"But Mommy isn't even close to him!" Alice said.
Alexander just said, "Sleep now."
The car continued to drive smoothly. After a while, Alice fell asleep again. When they got home, Alexander carefully carried her upstairs, put her to bed, and then called Elizabeth.
Elizabeth had just finished her bath but still couldn't sleep. Lying in bed, tossing and turning, she suddenly felt her mother, Quiana, had become very distant. At that moment, her thoughts drifted to her daughter and her husband.
She had been sleeping in Alexander's arms for several months now. Even a month ago, when Alexander was in Paris, she slept in his bed. Even though he wasn't beside her, she still felt secure. But now, she felt a deep emptiness.
She was afraid Alexander had fallen asleep and didn't want to call him for the third time.
Just as she was struggling to sleep, her phone rang. Without looking at the caller ID, Elizabeth felt a surge of anticipation. Was Alexander also unable to sleep?
Elizabeth picked up the phone, glanced at it, and answered eagerly, "Darling!"
