Chapter 337 A Very Reliable Helper
Standing before them was Elodie.
Compared to four days ago, she seemed much more spirited. Even though she still had dark circles under her eyes and a gaunt face, with heavy makeup and a luxurious floor-length gown, she looked like a scheming woman.
"Elizabeth! Long time no see!" Elodie greeted Elizabeth proactively.
"Hello, ma'am." Before Elizabeth could respond, Alice spoke up.
Elodie pretended to be very polite, saying, "I heard your name is Alice Windsor?"
"No, my name is Alice Spencer." Alice, unaware of Elodie's scheme, blurted out.
Elodie slapped her forehead, saying, "Oh, yeah, I have a bad memory. Your last name is Spencer."
Alice stuck her tongue out at Elodie, saying, "It's disgusting to have my name remembered by an ugly ghost."
Alice's adult-like words made Gavin laugh.
"What did you say!" Elodie was instantly furious.
Alice exaggeratedly jumped to Gavin's side in fear, saying, "Gavin, help me chase away the ghost."
Gavin remained silent.
When facing an opponent, Alice knew to preserve Elizabeth's strength and directly pulled him out to take the lead.
However, Gavin was more than willing to take the lead.
He picked up Alice and then sternly said to Elodie, "Miss Williams! I don't know where you got the nerve to dress so grandly for the Windsor Family's dinner. Have you forgotten how you begged for mercy in front of Mr. Windsor not long ago? He spared your life for Declan and Simon's sake, but he also ordered to freeze all your bank accounts. So I'm curious, Miss Williams, where did you get the money to dress so grandly today? And who allowed you to come here?"
After asking these questions, Gavin stared intently at Elodie.
He thought Elodie would be evasive, but to his surprise, after being questioned so much, Elodie remained calm, saying, "Gavin, you asked well. If you hadn't asked, I wouldn't know how to tell you. As you said, Mr. Windsor spared my life for Declan's sake, which means Declan holds significant weight with Mr. Windsor. So, I came here today thanks to Declan. He asked me to attend the banquet, and I didn't dare not to come. After all, he is an elder who watched me grow up. I call him Grandpa, so I dare not disobey."
Elodie's words left Gavin speechless.
"You mean an old man asked you to come to our family banquet, right?" Alice, still in Gavin's arms, suddenly asked.
Elodie smirked, "Yes."
"Does that old man know you look like a ghost?" Her expression was extremely innocent, not at all like she was teasing.
Elodie stammered, "You..."
"Ma'am, don't you know you look like an ugly ghost?"
Elodie fell silent.
"Or do you think ghosts are beautiful, so you became one?"
Elizabeth, who hadn't started the fight yet, couldn't help but laugh.
Alice inherited her father Alexander's sharp tongue. She could drive Elodie crazy without rushing or panicking.
"Elizabeth, what are you laughing at!" Elodie asked furiously.
"Elodie! This is Mrs. Windsor. You better speak respectfully!" Gavin immediately said sternly.
Elodie sneered, "Mrs. Windsor? Leaving aside the fact that Elizabeth hasn't even held a wedding with Mr. Windsor yet, even couples who have been married for decades can get divorced. Who can guarantee she'll always be Mrs. Windsor?"
These words were highly threatening.
Gavin, enraged, put Alice down and wanted to hit someone.
But Elizabeth stopped him.
Elizabeth smiled calmly at Elodie, "Elodie, my daughter is right. A woman like you, who doesn't even know she's ugly, can only be a subject of ridicule at such a banquet. Since you're not afraid of being ridiculed, why should I care? I'm happy to have an extra source of entertainment at the banquet."
"You!" Elodie was so angry she couldn't catch her breath.
"Sorry, are you still waiting for someone outside? I'll go in first because this is my home." Elizabeth said gracefully to Elodie.
Elodie remained silent.
After a pause, just as Elizabeth was about to enter, Elodie suddenly shouted, "Mrs. Windsor, I heard your relationship with Harper has been quite unusual lately. Do you think she'll come to this banquet? If she does, what will happen to her? Take a guess?"
Unable to outmatch Elizabeth, Elodie immediately tried to use Harper for amusement.
Elizabeth indeed turned back, asking coldly, "What do you mean!"
At that moment, Harper and Julia had just gotten out of the car.
Seeing Elizabeth already confronting Elodie, Harper and Julia immediately held hands, lifting their skirts, and running towards them.
Harper was fine; she often wore high heels before, so running wasn't too difficult.
But Julia rarely wore high heels, so she ran awkwardly, hopping and stumbling. Gavin couldn't help but laugh at Julia's clumsiness.
Alice also laughed heartily and nudged Gavin, "Gavin, I think my mom's friends are reliable."
"Do you know what reliable means?" Gavin asked.
Alice replied, "Gavin, you're so stupid. You don't even know what reliable means? It's like my mom's friends here. They are reliable." Alice patiently explained to Gavin.
Gavin shook his head, indicating that he still didn't understand.
Alice also shook her head, saying, "I don't know how my dad found such a stupid driver like you. You don't even know what reliable means, and my dad still pays you!"
Gavin was speechless.
How did Alice manage to confuse him?
How could he not know what reliable means!
While Alice and Gavin were tangled up in the issue of what reliable means, Julia and Harper stood on either side of Elizabeth, the three of them facing Elodie.
Elodie, however, was not afraid at all, teasing, "Harper, you have some guts now, helping outsiders. Let me ask you, are you here today as a friend of Elizabeth or as Robert's companion?"
Harper's tone was sad but firm, "That's none of your concern. Elodie, I just want to tell you that Elizabeth is my good friend. As long as I'm here, you won't bully her."
Elodie curled her lips, sneering, "It's best if you're not here as Robert's date because he is my date today."
"What?" Harper was stunned.
