Chapter 378 Watch Where You're Going!
Alexander instinctively glanced at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth, lost in her sorrow, didn't pay much attention. She saw him sit up straight and asked, "What's wrong, Alexander? What about the homeless woman?"
Alexander shook his head. "Nothing."
With that, he briefly said to the person in charge. "I understand." and then hung up the phone.
After putting away his phone, Alexander pulled Elizabeth close again. With her face buried in his chest, Elizabeth didn't see Alexander exchanging glances with Gavin, his closest bodyguard for over a decade. A single look was all it took for Gavin to understand that he needed to mobilize people to investigate the homeless woman, suspecting she might be the one who collided with Elizabeth's car on Sunday.
Was it as if God had arranged everything in secret?
At this moment, Alexander felt a sense of relief.
Always composed, Alexander had an impulsive urge to tell Elizabeth his guess. However, thinking about how sad Elizabeth was now, if he told her, she would undoubtedly be extremely happy. But what if it wasn't as he and Gavin thought? Wouldn't Elizabeth's mood plummet after being happy? Alexander couldn't bear to see Elizabeth sad anymore; every time she felt sad, his heart ached.
That afternoon, Gavin drove Elizabeth and the others back to the hotel where Elizabeth was staying. The four of them had a casual lunch at the hotel.
After lunch, back in the room, Elizabeth was still downcast. After all, she had already been through so many unpleasant things in just one day. So, that afternoon, all the influential people in the town called to invite Alexander for a meeting, but he declined, citing the need to take care of Elizabeth. They were all dumbfounded by his affection for Elizabeth. It was hard to imagine that the most distinguished man in the nation's largest trade city, the current president of the most famous company in Sunwillow City, would act this way.
That afternoon, Alexander didn't go anywhere. After all, he was here for one thing only: to exhume Nico's grave and take his ashes back to Sunwillow City. Once that was done, there was nothing else to do. Alexander stayed in their hotel room, personally bathing Elizabeth and giving her a full-body massage. Then, Alexander knelt on one knee, placing Elizabeth's foot on his knee, and personally massaged her feet. She felt very touched by what they did.
"Alexander, you really don't need to wash my feet. I can do it myself. When have you ever served anyone like this? Even when you were in exile without inheritance rights, you always had servants around you. When have you ever done these things?" Elizabeth asked gently.
Alexander didn't speak.
He was always a man of few words.
But his actions were precise, massaging her toes to relieve her fatigue.
With that, Alexander carried her to bed. "Get a good sleep. We're here with you."
Elizabeth nodded and then slept soundly in the hotel.
When she woke up, it was already evening. Opening her eyes, she didn't see Alexander or Alice.
Alice must have dragged Alexander downstairs for a walk or to buy something.
Just then, her phone rang again. Elizabeth shivered instinctively. The call in the morning was from Clara, and now, could it be Clara again? If it was, Elizabeth wouldn't be able to stay calm. Elizabeth let the phone ring, not picking it up.
After less than a minute, the phone rang again. She picked it up and answered reluctantly, "Hello!"
"What's wrong, Elizabeth?" came Julia's gentle and caring voice from the other end.
"Julia, it's you! What made you think of calling me at this time?" Hearing Julia's voice, Elizabeth felt much better, almost delighted.
"You weren't at the office all day, and Harper and I missed you. How are things going back home?" Julia asked.
Elizabeth remained silent, but to keep them from worrying, she didn't tell the truth.
"Everything's going well," she said calmly.
"When are you coming back?" Julia asked again.
In fact, she could go back now since everything here was taken care of, but it depended on Alexander's plans. Initially, they intended to spend a week exploring their hometown, with Alexander also teaching her some driving skills. However, Alexander had killed Remy, and it was uncertain if the matter was resolved, leaving Elizabeth unsure when Alexander could return. For Elizabeth, the sooner, the better. She wanted to return to Sunwillow City to find Quiana.
"I don't know," Elizabeth replied.
On the other end, Julia said cheerfully, "Elizabeth, my mom wants to invite you for a meal. Let me know when you're back. She said she'll make some delicious hometown specialties for you."
Hearing Julia say this, Elizabeth suddenly understood why Julia called her at this time. It must have been Gavin who told Julia about the situation here, so he specifically asked Julia to comfort her. Elizabeth felt a warmth in her heart.
"Thank you, Julia. I'll definitely come over for a meal when I get back," Elizabeth said.
"Okay, I'll hang up now. Bye."
"Bye."
Just after hanging up, Elizabeth's phone rang again. Elizabeth immediately answered with a smile. "Do you want me to bring something back for you?"
But it was Alexander's voice on the other end. "I'm in the private dining room downstairs. Come down for dinner."
"I'll be right down."
After hanging up, Elizabeth just wore her loungewear and left the room, heading to the lobby. As soon as she entered the lobby, she bumped into someone.
"Can't you watch where you're going?" a sharp female voice immediately scolded.
