Chapter 55 Important Matters

Clara's sobs grew even more desperate on the other end of the line. She claimed, "Mr. Windsor, I will never come to you again. Please let me keep the baby. I will leave with the child in my belly and never see you again. I will never let him know you as his biological father, okay? I'm begging you."

"Where are you?" Alexander asked urgently.

Behind him, the executives waiting for the meeting were all shocked, staring at Alexander. Sensing the situation, Gavin immediately said to everyone, "Meeting adjourned!"

The executives wisely left.

Gavin looked at Alexander. "Mr. Windsor, what happened?"

Alexander didn't look at Gavin, his face cold and stern as he listened to the phone. On the other end, Clara's voice was filled with fear. She said, "No, Mr. Windsor. Don't come over."

Next to her, Oliver grabbed the phone. "Mr. Windsor, I'm at Greenwood Hospital. Send someone over quickly to help me tie her up and take her to the operating room, Mr. Windsor."

The call was disconnected.

Alexander quickly walked out, saying to Gavin behind him, "Get the car, we're going to Greenwood Hospital."

"Yes, sir!" Gavin complied immediately.

On the way, Gavin ran red lights and overtook cars, reaching Greenwood Hospital in just twenty minutes.

In the obstetrics and gynecology hall, a crowd had gathered. When Alexander and Gavin arrived, they saw Oliver trying to pull Clara, who was sitting on the ground hugging a pillar.

Next to them, Lila was crying and cursing Oliver, "Oliver, how can you be so heartless? Isn't Clara's baby our grandchild? Why do you insist on aborting this child? Clara has promised not to bother Mr. Windsor anymore. Can't we just leave? Oliver, you're not human!"

Many bystanders were talking.

Somebody remarked, "The father is right. His daughter is pregnant out of wedlock, and the man doesn't want her."

Someone chastised, "This girl is too indiscreet, no self-respect."

Another pointed out, "Her mother is still defending her!"

One advised, "Miss, stop crying. Get rid of the baby, find a good husband, and you'll have more children in the future. Having this baby would be irresponsible."

"No, I want to keep this baby. I love him. I will never go back to him again. Dad, I promise." Clara cried out.

Through the crowd, Alexander, tall and impeccably dressed, pushed his way to Oliver and Clara. He raised his arm and pushed Oliver away.

Oliver stumbled and fell back.

Just as he was about to get angry, he saw Alexander clearly and immediately softened his tone. He suggested, "Mr. Windsor, you're here. Now things will be much easier. Help me carry Clara to the operating room."

Clara looked at Alexander with despair.

Alexander glared at Oliver, then squatted down to look at Clara. "You're pregnant. Why didn't you tell me?"

"I..." Clara's face was full of tears. "I will never bother you again, Mr. Windsor. Please, just let me go."

"Get a check-up first," Alexander said.

Clara quickly refused,"No."

"The child is mine. Don't worry, I won't let you abort it. Just a check-up to see the pregnancy stage and the baby's development. After that, I'll take you home," Alexander's tone was unprecedentedly gentle.

"Are you serious?" Clara asked as she looked at Alexander with tearful eyes.

Alexander reassured her, "Yes."

"But you don't love me. You love Elizabeth. I don't want to force you, and I don't want to use the baby to emotionally blackmail you. I just can't bear to abort the baby. I won't go back with you. I will leave," she claimed. Clara shook her head stubbornly in refusal, tears streaming down.

"I said I would marry you. You will be my only wife, and the child in your belly will be the heir to the Windsor Group," with that said, Alexander picked Clara up and headed to the examination room.

Clara remained silent. Her face still bore tear stains.

But nestled in Alexander's arms, she knew she had won this round.

She had won it completely.

Behind them, Oliver and Lila exchanged a knowing glance.

After a series of examinations in the obstetrics and gynecology department, the results came out quickly. Clara was indeed pregnant, and over ten weeks along, matching the timeline of the night she had spent with Alexander.

The doctor told Alexander that the fetus was developing well, but Clara was weak and needed to rest. She also needed to avoid stress and sadness, because Clara's sadness was also bad for the baby's growth.

After getting the doctor's instructions, Alexander carried Clara out, walking all the way without putting her down.

In Alexander's arms, Clara felt an indescribable sweetness well up inside her, a drunken happiness.

It wasn't until Alexander carried Clara to the parking lot outside the hospital that he put her down. His gaze remained cold and deep.

So deep that Oliver and Lila couldn't tell what he was thinking.

"I'm taking her back with me. She will live with me from now on. As for her care, I'll bring people from Windsor Manor to look after her. In a little over a month, I'll marry her. As for the child, no one could think about aborting it!" Alexander said expressionlessly to Oliver and Lila.

Oliver nodded repeatedly in agreement. "Yes, Mr. Windsor. As long as you want the child, Lila and I won't let Clara abort it. The child is our grandchild too, of course, we care. But we are hesitant. Although we are aware that Clara has always liked you, we can also see that you don't really like her. We just don't want to make things difficult for you."Oliver spoke sincerely, and Lila nodded along.

Alexander said, "Understood."

Then he had Gavin open the car door. Just as he was about to bend down to put Clara in the car, Clara struggled.

"What's wrong?" Alexander's tone was gentle. "Haven't you always wanted to live with me?"

Clara lowered her head, shyly saying, "Mr. Windsor, I was immature before. But now I know better. I won't bother you anymore, especially since Elizabeth is still living with you. I won't disturb you anymore. I'm very grateful you won't abort my child. Don't worry, I'll protect the baby well and wait for you to marry me."

Alexander fell silent.

At that moment, his phone rang.

He looked at it; it was the landline from Windsor Manor. Alexander immediately answered, "Hello?"

"Alexander, it's Grandpa," the elderly voice of Marcus came through the phone. "Take some time to come back today. I have something important to discuss with you!"
