Chapter 369 Don't Blame Me for Being Ruthless
Bodhi, who was talking to Elizabeth, shuddered when he heard the arrogant voice. He whispered to Elizabeth, "Your cousin is here."
Elizabeth turned around calmly and saw a very well-dressed woman standing in Bodhi's dilapidated yard. She appeared much older than she really was. Although she was dressed very well, her skin was not good, and she was a bit chubby.
The woman arrogantly shouted into the house. "Elizabeth! You still know how to come back? Get out here!" Then she turned to Bodhi and said, "I think you asked the wrong person for help. Your own daughter and son-in-law don't dare to come back, and you expect a bastard who hasn't been back in fifteen years to support you?"
Elizabeth immediately recalled how many adults here used to insult her when she was a child, saying things like, "Your dad can't even have kids, and you're just the burden your mom brought along. You're lucky; your dad actually loves you."
Nico was half-disabled and couldn't do heavy work, and Quiana took care of Elizabeth alone and couldn't go out to work, so the family was always poorer than others. Even so, Nico would find odd jobs nearby to improve Elizabeth's life. Whenever the family had meat, Nico and Quiana would let Elizabeth eat it all by herself. When she asked why, they made excuses, saying she needed it to grow.
Until the moment Nico died, Elizabeth always considered him her biological father in her heart.
She walked out of Bodhi's house, looking calmly at the woman. "Who are you?"
"I'm your cousin!"
"I don't have any cousins," Elizabeth said calmly.
"I don't plan to acknowledge you as a relative either!" Remy Spencer said disdainfully and arrogantly, "Elizabeth! You seem to be well-informed. You've been away for fifteen years, never even visiting your father's grave, and you come back just as the place is being demolished? We know all about your disgraceful deeds outside!"
Elizabeth was stunned and then asked, "What do you know?"
"We know you've been a prostitute all these years! And you brought back a bastard child, just like your mom. Elizabeth, am I wrong?" Remy asked provocatively.
Bodhi, who came out of the house with a cane, pointed at Remy. "Elizabeth is your cousin. You took her demolition compensation, and now you're bullying her like this? I saw her come back in a taxi by herself!"
At this moment, the taxi driver who had been waiting outside also came in. He hadn't received the $500 Elizabeth promised him, so seeing Elizabeth in such a conflict with the people here, he was afraid he wouldn't get his money. He came in to mediate. "Ms. Remy Spencer, I know you."
Remy turned to the driver and puzzled.
He smiled warmly, "Ms. Spencer, I often drive a taxi in town, and I frequently wait for customers outside your bar, so I'm familiar with you. Ms. Spencer, this lady is my passenger. She came from the best hotel in town, and she didn't know her home was being demolished until I told her they were building an artificial lake here. I think she couldn't possibly be..."
Before the driver could finish, Remy roared immediately, "Where did you come from? Get out!"
The driver fell silent, too scared by Remy to speak for a long time.
He could only look at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth calmly said to him, "Thank you. Please wait in the car. I'll give you the money once I'm done here."
"Okay." The driver had no choice but to return to his car.
Elizabeth frowned and looked coldly at Remy, "Who told you these things about me?"
Could it be the Guise Family had been here?
Elizabeth wasn't worried about anything else. She just wanted to see if there were any relics of her parents in the old house and then find someone to dig up her parents' ashes and take them away.
Remy raised her eyebrows and sneered at Elizabeth.
During the six years Elizabeth was on the run, the Guise Family had come several times, and each time they contacted Remy.
Remy still remembered the first time the Guise Family came to this town six years ago. Clara happened to go to the bar she owned. During their chat, Clara learned that Remy was Elizabeth's cousin, and Remy learned a lot about Elizabeth from Clara.
That was Clara and Remy's first deal.
Clara came looking for Elizabeth, intending to silence her. After failing to find her, Clarakept in touch with Remy. Clara needed Remy to report Elizabeth's whereabouts to her at any time. And Remy was naturally delighted to be connected with wealthy people from Sunwillow City.
Clara called to ask if Elizabeth had shown up at her old home. Remy promised that as soon as Elizabeth showed up, she would report to Clara, and then Clara would capture Elizabeth. As for Elizabeth's old house, it naturally became Remy's.
Even though Alexander had recently announced his marriage to Elizabeth on his official Twitter, Remy still believed Clara's deception. "Do you think that's possible? Nobles always marry within their class. Elizabeth has no background. How could she? It's all for show. She will never come back to her family home. You can go ahead and take her demolition compensation."
Remy was still a bit uneasy. "But what if she comes back?"
Clara sneered. "If Elizabeth returns, she'll be alone. She won't bring her husband or her illegitimate daughter. So, what are you afraid of?"
This was what Clara told Remy a month ago. And now, Elizabeth had indeed come back alone, just as Clara said. It seemed she was indeed very capable.
Remy sneered. "Since you've come back alone, don't blame me for being ruthless."
"What are you going to do?" Elizabeth was startled.
