Chapter 101 Alexander, You Were Supposed to Marry Me!
"Why'd you go see Alexander? What happened?" Simon asked.
Simon didn't know Elizabeth well, but the first time he saw her, he felt she had some connection to Donna.
He always believed deep down that Elizabeth was Donna's daughter. Even though they'd only met a few times, he felt a strong sense of familiarity with her because of their family bond.
Simon couldn't understand how Declan could be so clueless. Wasn't it such a deep bond? Did Declan not feel it at all?
Everyone, including Declan, thought Elizabeth had character issues. But Simon didn't agree, partly due to his intuition and partly because of Samuel.
So, Simon believed Elizabeth must have her reasons for seeking out Alexander. He was speeding the whole way, but Elizabeth kept urging him to go even faster.
Simon tried to comfort her, "Elizabeth, it's only nine in the morning. The Windsor family's wedding is at eleven. Don't worry, Alexander isn't going anywhere. "
Elizabeth shook her head and replied, " We must get there before his wedding!"
"Do you love Alexander?" Simon asked.
Elizabeth was silent, unsure of her feelings for Alexander. However, his decisiveness, calm demeanor, respect towards Esme, and sense of responsibility towards Clara all attracted her. Maybe it was just because she admired the strong aura around Alexander? She didn't know.
Previously, Elizabeth had repeatedly chosen to distance herself from Alexander. And the resolute words she spoke in the Windsor Manor yesterday stemmed from her belief that a life with Alexander was impossible.
Given this impossibility, she decided to be ruthless, hoping to quell any lingering thoughts.
However, Alexander was the father of her child, her only man.
Elizabeth felt overwhelmed with emotion, on the verge of tears. She thought, 'I must win Alexander back!'
"I want to fight for love," Elizabeth said firmly, looking at Simon.
Simon was silent.
"I should have that right, shouldn't I?" Elizabeth asked.
Simon answered honestly, "Of course you do."
"Then please drive faster!" Elizabeth urged.
"Okay! I'll speed up." Simon stepped on the gas, and the car shot forward like an arrow.
Simon knew that Elizabeth had little chance of winning Alexander back. Yet, when he saw her resolutely striving for love, he was inexplicably moved by her determination and courage. He suddenly understood why Samuel liked Elizabeth.
Samuel had no money, but he was willing to borrow money from Simon to take Elizabeth away. Samuel said Elizabeth was the best girl he had met, and if he didn't help her, he would regret it for the rest of his life.
Samuel also told Simon, "Nowadays, it's really rare to find a girl who's willing to risk her life to protect a benefactor or a friend. So, Elizabeth is incredibly brave! In my heart, Elizabeth will always be the one I like. I must take her away from her suffering."
At that moment, Simon saw Elizabeth's courage.
He thought, 'Well, Alexander isn't married yet. Elizabeth does have the right to go after him right now.'
Simon just wanted to help Elizabeth out, but deep down, he hoped she'd face reality and let go.
The car quickly arrived at the wedding venue.
It was a secluded hillside villa, not too big and pretty quiet, mainly because Alexander didn't want the wedding to be too extravagant.
One reason was that Esme had just passed away not long ago, and he didn't want it to be too lively. Another reason was that Alexander didn't really like Clara. He was marrying her purely out of gratitude and because Clara was pregnant with his child.
So, this wedding was as simple as Alexander could make it.
Even so, the Windsor family's wedding was still super fancy in the eyes of regular folks, with a grand and festive scene.
The long red carpet stretched from the villa all the way to the road, seemingly endless, with flowers lining both sides. Even though it was winter, the flowers were still in full bloom.
Guests arriving to celebrate were endless, and various vehicles filled the area outside the villa. There were scattered onlookers on both sides of the red carpet.
From a distance, Elizabeth couldn't wait to get out of the car. But Simon stopped her and said, "Elizabeth, listen. The Windsor family has bodyguards everywhere—dozens, maybe hundreds. If you go out now, they'll just take you away, and you won't see Alexander."
Elizabeth anxiously looked at Simon and asked, "Then what should I do?"
"Alexander hasn't arrived yet. Wait until Alexander and Clara get out of the car, then stop them," Simon said heavily.
He wasn't sure if it was right to have Elizabeth do this. Simon even thought about the consequences.
While Elizabeth wasn't paying attention, he quietly sent a text message on his phone.
Elizabeth nodded and said, "Okay. I'll wait in the car."
Simon nodded.
Elizabeth and Simon waited in the car for about half an hour. A convoy of cars adorned with fresh flowers slowly approached, led by a sleek black Aston Martin.
The car stopped at the end of the red carpet.
The first to step out was Alexander, dressed in a suit and bow tie. He stood by the car door, opened it, and made a gesture for Clara to step out.
Unlike other grooms, he didn't carry Clara out. Instead, Alexander's expression remained slightly indifferent. Fortunately, everyone was used to it and knew Alexander rarely smiled and always had a stern look.
Clara inside the car didn't mind.
The more Alexander was like this, the more she liked him. From now on, Clara would be Alexander's lawful wife.
Clara, wearing a beautiful wedding dress, stepped out of the car, holding Alexander's hand, and slowly walked onto the red carpet.
"Wait a minute!" A voice rang out like thunder.
Alexander and Clara simultaneously looked to the left. Elizabeth stumbled in front of Alexander and said, "Alexander, you can't marry Clara. You were supposed to marry me!"
