Chapter 124 Alexander as a Pillow
Elizabeth didn't answer Alexander's question directly.
She looked both sad and indifferent, but her voice was calm and cold. "It doesn't matter. I owe you money, right? Even if I didn't, you'd find a way to make me. So, you arrested me and brought me back. Now that I'm in your hands, I'll do whatever you want. My reputation in Sunwillow City is already ruined. To you, I'm just a woman with ulterior motives. But please, just spare Alice."
She had overheard Alexander's phone call with Felix. Even though she had never met Alexander's father, Elizabeth knew it was Felix on the line. From his tone, she could tell that the whole of Sunwillow City was waiting to see how Alexander would punish her.
She couldn't escape anyway.
So, it didn't matter.
Alexander was so mad at Elizabeth's words that he wanted to turn her over and give her a good beating right then and there.
But seeing her so frail, he held back.
He just ran his rough hand through Elizabeth's messy hair, his cold eyes locked on her, and said slowly, "Elizabeth! Listen up. My friend transferred that ten million dollar debt to me. From now on, I'm your creditor! You know I'm a businessman. I'm ruthless, as you've seen. Since that ten million dollar debt is now mine, I'll be collecting interest every day. Do you understand interest?"
Elizabeth's heart sank lower and lower.
If she fell into Alexander's hands, he would definitely make her life a living hell. Six years ago, he was kind to her because she took good care of Esme. But now, he had nothing but cruelty for her.
Even though Elizabeth had expected this, hearing Alexander say these words still made her tremble all over.
Her heart aching in an indescribable way, she stammered, "How much is the interest?"
Alexander sneered, "Ten million dollars! If we go by regular interest rates, you'd have to pay me three million dollars in interest every year! That's the minimum."
Elizabeth was silent.
Alexander added, "You'd better please me first, so you can earn more money! Only then will you have a chance to pay off your debt. I'm a man of my word in business! Once you pay off the debt, I'll let Alice and you go! But first, you have to serve me well!"
Alexander's icy tone felt like a shard of ice stabbing into Elizabeth's heart, cold and painful.
Elizabeth thought to herself, 'The people of Sunwillow City are right about one thing: I'm ultimately pathetic! He is so cruel to me, yet I still have feelings for him.'
Tears streamed down Elizabeth's cheeks.
Alexander leaned down and sucked the tears from her face, making Elizabeth's cheeks flush with embarrassment. She was at a loss, wanting to push him away, but Alexander held her even tighter.
He brushed aside her messy hair and lazily said, "I'll tell you a shortcut."
Elizabeth asked, "What shortcut?"
Alexander replied, "If you serve me well, maybe I'll help you pay off your debt myself!"
Elizabeth stayed silent.
She hadn't yet recovered when she saw Alexander reach over to turn off the bedside lamp. His arm then wrapped around her as he lazily said, "Sleep!"
Elizabeth had no choice but to lie cautiously on his chest, too scared to fall asleep.
She wanted to get up and check on Alice, but before she could, Alexander's leg pinned her down, making it impossible to move.
Elizabeth could only nestle in his arms, barely daring to breathe.
All she could do now was pray that if Alice woke up and couldn't find her, she'd hear Alice's cries.
Maybe it was because she was too exhausted from the bathtub, or maybe she was thinking about Alice, but Elizabeth didn't even know when she eventually fell asleep.
She lay on Alexander's chest, her breathing even.
Perhaps it was too cold, as Alexander's blanket was very thin. Gradually, Elizabeth began to move closer to Alexander, finally lying entirely on top of him. Back in Collinsport, Elizabeth had a long cylindrical body pillow that she always hugged to sleep, feeling secure that way.
However, now that the body pillow was gone, in her sleep, Elizabeth unknowingly treated Alexander's leg as the body pillow, wrapping her legs around his like vines.
Elizabeth slept soundly, but Alexander couldn't fall asleep for a long time.
He had been looking for her for six years! Finally, at this moment, she was sleeping beside him. Thinking of his six years of hardship and torment, Alexander wanted to wake her up and torment her again! When he thought of her cold expression and words, Alexander wanted to strangle Elizabeth.
However, he only muttered to himself with a cold sneer, "Elizabeth! If I wanted to kill you, why go through all this trouble? Don't you realize how many women in all of Aldoria want to climb into my bed? I've only ever bathed you in my life! And you feel wronged?"
"Mm, body pillow, I want my body pillow." In her sleep, Elizabeth searched for her body pillow, kicking her legs around under the blanket.
Alexander let out a low grunt, then lifted a leg to give her, letting her use it as a body pillow.
Only then did Elizabeth settle down.
Alexander sneered again, then wrapped his arm around her, pulling her entirely into his embrace. He kissed her messy hair deeply, and after a long kiss, finally fell asleep contentedly.
All night, Elizabeth clung to Alexander like a body pillow, sleeping soundly.
Alexander hadn't moved all night, and his legs and feet were numb, almost like they weren't his own.
The next morning.
As the sun slowly rose from the east, Elizabeth gradually woke from her deep sleep. At first, she thought she was in her room in Collinsport and called out, "Sweetie, time to get up, or you'll be late for preschool."
After calling out, she suddenly froze. What she touched wasn't a body pillow or a blanket—it felt like a person.
Elizabeth shuddered awake in fright. As she opened her eyes, she was stunned.
