Chapter 232 I'm Not Afraid of Slander

"I'm not as unreasonable as you!" Alexander sneered. With that, he closed his eyes to rest.

Elizabeth remained silent, suddenly pursing her lips and smiling.

She didn't smile often.

At least Gavin had never seen her smile, but when she did, it was just as sweet as it had been six years ago.

So pure.

In fact, she was still the same person she appeared to be six years ago—calm, clear-headed, and reserved on the surface. But deep down, she was a girl who would shine brightly with just a little warmth.

"Mrs. Windsor, shall I take you to the office?" Gavin asked.

Elizabeth nodded, saying, "Yes, thank you, Gavin."

"It's my duty, Mrs. Windsor," Gavin replied, turning the car around and heading towards Elizabeth's company.

When they arrived, there were still ten minutes before work started.

Getting out of the car, Elizabeth looked up at the bright sunshine, her smile even more radiant.

Everything was still so good.

She hadn't lost her job, still able to save money.

In fact, with just one month's salary, she could go back home to visit her mother.

With a spring in her step, Elizabeth entered the company.

Before she could get to the elevator, she saw Julia, who had arrived just a moment later.

"Elizabeth," Julia called out excitedly.

Seeing Julia made Elizabeth happy. Julia was a good girl. Elizabeth had told her not to tell Gavin about what had happened at the company recently, Julia having kept her word.

Otherwise, Alexander would definitely know about her and Harper.

But since Alexander didn't know, it meant Julia hadn't leaked anything.

"Julia, let me treat you to lunch. What would you like to eat?" Elizabeth asked.

Julia laughed, "What good news have you got? Treating me to lunch?"

Elizabeth thought for a moment, shrugging, and saying, "I thought I was going to lose my job, but I just found out I can keep working. You don't know how important this job is to me. I crave stability. So I'm very happy, extremely happy. I'll treat you to lunch, but you can't order anything too expensive. I only have a few hundred dollars on me. How about spending two hundred dollars on a buffet?"

Julia looked at Elizabeth seriously, asking, "Elizabeth, is this because Mr. Tudor came to see you yesterday?"

Elizabeth was taken aback, asking, "You know Mr. Tudor came to see me?"

Julia answered, "Yes, Mr. Tudor was talking to you in the company hallway, with two female employees seeing it. Now everyone knows. They're spreading nasty rumors, saying they never really believed you were innocent, and now they have proof. They're saying you're Mr. Tudor's mistress."

Elizabeth was silent.

Julia quickly added, "But Elizabeth, no matter what anyone says, I don't believe it! I guess you and Owen have nothing going on. You're innocent, and if there's any rumor, it's definitely Owen being the bad guy, pestering you. Am I right? I must be right!"

Julia's firm tone made Elizabeth very touched.

She looked at Julia gratefully, asking, "Julia, why do you believe in me so firmly?"

"Of course!" Julia said proudly. "If we're talking about family background, Robert's family is much better off in Pariz than the Tudor family is now. The Tudor family is nothing. Six years ago, the Tudor family was still influential in Sunwillow City, but now, they have been almost entirely swallowed up by the Windsor Group. Now, people call Owen 'Mr. Tudor' out of respect for the Windsor family. But Robert is different."

"The Lavien family's status is equivalent to the Windsor family's status in Sunwillow City. And his uncle Gideon has a good relationship with Alexander. With Robert's status, you don't care at all. How could you possibly be interested in someone like Owen, who has been with countless women? Am I right?"

Elizabeth didn't answer Julia but smiled at her, "I've decided. Even though I only have four hundred dollars left, I'm going to spend it all today. Tell me, what do you want to eat? Four hundred dollars! Let's splurge a little for lunch!"

Julia laughed, poking Elizabeth's head, "Look at you. Even though your outfit looks a bit old-fashioned, it's all designer brands. Your clothes alone cost thousands, even tens of thousands of dollars, and you're only willing to spend four hundred dollars to treat me to a meal. And you call that splurging! You're so stingy!"

"Fine, if you don't want that, I'll treat you to a two-hundred-dollar meal," Elizabeth laughed.

"Stingy!" Julia teased.

Elizabeth continued to tease Julia, "How about one hundred dollars then?"

Julia asked, "How can you reduce it even more!"

Elizabeth was rarely this happy.

They laughed and joked as they entered the company lobby, where they encountered a few employees coming in.

"She's still so smug!"

"Of course she's smug. She injured Harper, getting her kicked out of the company, yet still getting to work here. And Harper's brother-in-law, Mr. Tudor, even came to the company to see her yesterday after work. So blatant! She really has no shame."

"For a woman like her, dignity means nothing. As long as men like her, she doesn't care if she's the other woman or if she's stealing someone else's husband."

"Hey, your husband is quite handsome. You'd better keep an eye on him. Elizabeth doesn't turn anyone away. Look at her, she had something with Mr. Tudor, and now she's involved with Mr. Lavien. She should have given up on Mr. Tudor, but she's still in touch with him. For her, the more men, the better."

"Are you saying she wouldn't even refuse a homeless guy picking up trash on the street?"

"Probably not!"

A group of women openly mocked Elizabeth and Julia, not caring that they were right behind them.

Julia couldn't stand it anymore, saying, "You're being too harsh with your words! Did you see Elizabeth flirting with Mr. Tudor with your own eyes? She just knows Mr. Tudor, and he might have come to the company for other reasons. Can't they talk in public? Do you never talk to men? This is so malicious! The company is a place to work, but you're spreading rumors and slandering Elizabeth. Aren't you afraid of getting fired?"

The group of women fell silent, quickly dispersing.

Julia looked at Elizabeth, asking, "Why don't you defend yourself?"

Elizabeth calmly said, "I didn't do it, so I'm not afraid of slander."

"Well said!" A voice suddenly came from behind.
