Chapter 392 A Portrait of a Devoted Husband and Father

"Elizabeth, what's wrong?" Alice asked with concern, watching Elizabeth intently.

Elizabeth turned around anxiously. "Alice, sweetheart, stay in your seat. I need to step out for a moment." With that, she opened the car door and got out. Since Alice remained in the car, Elizabeth couldn't venture far and could only watch helplessly as the raggedly dressed homeless woman quickly disappeared from sight.

Within a minute, the vagrant had vanished completely.

Elizabeth returned to the car with visible disappointment, while Alice, secured in her car seat, watched her with worried eyes. Elizabeth managed a forced smile for her daughter.

Her phone was still connected from the ongoing call.

"Hello? Hello? Elizabeth, what happened? Elizabeth!" Julia's anxious voice came through the speaker, filled with concern.

Elizabeth finally picked up the phone and replied listlessly, "Julia, are you off work yet?"

What a question to ask—Julia had already finished work, picked up her daughter, and was now at her front door.

"Elizabeth, what's going on? What happened?" Julia pressed.

Elizabeth shook her head. "Nothing."

"You're driving me crazy! Just tell me! Elizabeth! Don't you consider me a friend? What happened? Tell me!" Julia's anxiety peaked as she guessed, "Did your trip home not go well?"

Elizabeth shook her head again. "No, everything went smoothly. I brought my father's ashes back, and we buried them yesterday. And my mother... she's not dead."

This was what Elizabeth desperately wanted to believe, so the words simply spilled out.

Julia's voice brightened with relief. "That's wonderful news! Why aren't you happy about it?"

"I miss my mother," Elizabeth whispered.

Julia fell silent for a moment before responding gently, "It's going to be okay, Elizabeth."

"Thank you. What did you call about?"

Julia's tone lightened. "Nothing urgent, really. It was your first day at the company today, and we were both so busy that I didn't get a chance to check on you, so I thought I'd call now."

"I'm glad everything's fine," Elizabeth smiled weakly. "Should I hang up now?"

"Talk to you later."

Elizabeth truly wasn't in the mood for a roadside conversation with Julia—her thoughts remained consumed with finding her mother.

As they returned to their residential complex, before Elizabeth could even park properly, her phone rang again. Seeing Alexander's name on the display, she immediately answered. "Alexander?"

"Where are you?" His voice was unusually gentle.

At that moment, Alexander was seated in one of Sunwillow City's most exclusive nightclub lounges, surrounded by several friends in a spacious private room. Witnessing Alexander's tender tone, his companions sat frozen in astonishment, staring as he spoke with Elizabeth.

Elizabeth immediately responded apologetically, "I'm so sorry, Alexander. Are you already home? Are you waiting for Alice and me for dinner? I remember you telling me never to let Alice go hungry. We'll be right up."

"I'm not at home," Alexander replied.

"What?" Elizabeth was surprised. In the four or five months since their marriage, Alexander rarely spent evenings away from home. She had grown accustomed to him being there for dinner.

"Where are you?" Her tone carried a hint of playful reproach.

"Remember when we hosted that dinner at the Windsor Manor? Several of my friends couldn't make it because they were out of town. They're all here now, at the same nightclub where we first met—we have a permanent private room there for our gatherings. Bring Alice and come over."

Elizabeth hesitated. "Would that be appropriate?"

After all, his friends were all influential people.

Alexander coaxed her gently, "If you're not the right person to come, then who is? They're all from out of town, and you're the only one here in Sunwillow City. Shouldn't you play the gracious hostess?"

Elizabeth laughed. "Alright, I'll come."

"Hurry up, we're waiting."

"Okay." After hanging up, Elizabeth smiled warmly at Alice. "Would you like to meet your daddy's friends?"

Alice nodded eagerly. "Of course!"

She absolutely loved meeting new people.

"Remember to be polite and greet everyone properly, okay?"

Alice adopted a mature tone. "Please! I'm five years old, and I'm a very well-mannered little lady."

"I'm just concerned that having come from a small place like Collinsport to the big city only a few months ago, you might still be adjusting to new social situations."

Alice lifted her chin proudly. "So what if I haven't seen everything yet? I'm still the best."

Hearing Alice's response, Elizabeth felt a sudden jolt of recognition. Alice's personality was remarkably similar to her own—she had always been an indomitable woman, and Alice shared that same spirit. A surge of fierce pride filled her heart.

"Come on, let's go meet your daddy's friends and show everyone that he now has two beautiful ladies in his life." Elizabeth took Alice's hand, and they drove to the same nightclub where she had first met Alexander's circle.

Meanwhile, at the nightclub, everyone present regarded Alexander with incredulous expressions.

Gideon was the first to tease him. "I have to say, Alexander, you've become a completely different person."

Alexander shot Gideon an irritated look. "Mind your own business!"

Caspian chimed in, "Alexander, only you would dare snap at Gideon like that. But seriously, you've changed dramatically these past few months—you're the picture of a devoted husband and father."

Calvin, seated at the far end, sneered. "Don't you follow Twitter, Caspian? It's been all over social media—Alexander isn't just a good husband and father, he's completely whipped!"

"Are you really whipped, Alexander?" Gideon asked with mock seriousness.

Alexander's expression remained neutral—neither confirming nor denying the accusation.

"Waiter!" Calvin suddenly called out, raising his hand.

A server quickly approached. "Mr. Savoy, how may I assist you?"

Calvin whispered something in the server's ear, who then glanced uncertainly at Alexander.

"Go on!" Calvin commanded.

"Yes, sir." The server hurried out.

Five minutes later, the door opened. Everyone expected to see Elizabeth arriving with Alice, but instead, a woman with a model's height and figure entered. Dressed provocatively with flowing waves of hair that gave her a seductive appearance, she called out, "Mr. Windsor."

Alexander remained silent.

Calvin watched with obvious amusement, anticipating the drama.

"Mr. Windsor, you're the only one here without female company. Let me keep you entertained," the woman purred, moving toward Alexander.

Alexander raised an eyebrow and said coolly, "You might want to look behind you first."
