Chapter 248 You Actually Dare to Come
Over there, Molly's tone was quite casual, "Elizabeth, you're quite the social butterfly. We only talked once yesterday, and you can already recognize my voice. Since you're so shameless, and you managed to seduce the heirs of the high society in Sunwillow City, why do you still pretend to be innocent in front of Laura? Your arrogance matches your background perfectly, doesn't it?"
Molly had a knack for insults.
Elizabeth remained unfazed, saying, "I'll be at work on time. We'll talk then!"
With that, she hung up the phone.
Alice was right next to her, and she didn't want Alice to hear her arguing with anyone.
Elizabeth squatted down and looked at Alice gently, asking, "Tell Mommy, where does your daddy go?"
Alice proudly said, "My daddy went on a business trip and won't be back for a few days. You don't know that, do you, Mommy?"
Elizabeth shook her head, saying, "I don't know. How did you find out?"
Alice became even more proud, saying, "Daddy told me last night. He said I should take good care of Mommy these days. Mommy loves to sleep in, so I have to make sure she wakes up on time. Daddy also gave me a set of car keys for Mommy."
With that, Alice handed the keys to Elizabeth.
Elizabeth recognized them as the keys to the car Alexander had bought her recently.
Her feelings were complicated.
Alice continued, "Daddy said that Mommy should take Alice to kindergarten these days. He went to Pariz to buy me toys, and I'll have lots of new toys in a few days."
Elizabeth smiled and said, "Congratulations on getting new toys to play with, Alice."
After eating, when Elizabeth was changing clothes, she once again felt sore all over, as if her body was falling apart. Standing in the walk-in closet, she decided to wear a casual and loose outfit of jeans and a shirt, just like she had the past few days. This outfit looked plain and simple.
But she felt that comfort was the most important thing for her physical condition today.
When she saw the car outside, Elizabeth remembered that Alexander wanted her to drive Alice to kindergarten herself. But she was sore all over today and really wasn't fit to drive, especially since she was still a novice driver.
For her and Alice's safety, Elizabeth decided to take the bus.
Alice didn't mind. For her, taking the bus was a novelty. Back in Collinsport, Elizabeth used to take her to kindergarten on a bicycle every day. Now that they were in the city, Alexander's car took her to school every day. She had never taken the bus before, and she was very excited, looking around the whole way. When they got off at the bus stop near the kindergarten, Alice saw Susan getting off the car.
Alice screamed with joy, "Susan, Susan!"
Susan saw Alice too and waited for her, holding Mira's hand.
Alice happily looked at Elizabeth, saying, "Mommy, Susan is the best to me. When Daddy brings back toys from Pariz, I want to give half to Susan. Is that okay, Mommy?"
Elizabeth smiled and said, "The toys are yours. You can give them to whoever you want. Mommy agrees."
Seeing Alice so happy, Elizabeth was even more determined to attend that parent party.
Although Elizabeth thought it was wrong for a group to ostracize a poor family, she didn't want Alice to be left out. She didn't know what her future held, so she had to consider Alice's situation more.
However, Elizabeth also decided in her heart that she would only participate in the party but would not join in ostracizing that poor parent.
Holding Alice's hand, Elizabeth walked up to Susan and Mira, smiling and saying, "Mrs. Campbell, I brought the fifty thousand dollars today. Do we give the money to the group leader, or how does it work?"
Mira looked Elizabeth up and down, hesitating to speak.
Then she looked at Susan and Alice, saying, "You two hurry into the kindergarten."
Susan and Alice walked into the kindergarten hand in hand. Mira then spoke to Elizabeth in a disdainful tone, "Ms. Spencer, why didn't you have a car pick you up today?"
Elizabeth suppressed her impatience, explaining, "My husband is on a business trip."
Mira said, "But your outfit today is very plain. It looks like you just wore your pajamas out."
Elizabeth remained silent.
After a pause, she asked, "Mrs. Campbell, what are you trying to say?"
"Did you sell your car and your designer clothes to come up with this fifty thousand dollars? Are you actually a poor person pretending to be rich, just like that other parent? If your family is really like that, not only will our group not accept you, but this kindergarten won't either!" Mira's tone became increasingly rude.
Elizabeth remained silent.
Normally, she would leave.
At worst, Alice could transfer schools!
She didn't want to have any dealings with a woman like Mira.
But now it was different. Molly was waiting for her at the company, and Elizabeth didn't know what her fate would be in the next moment. She couldn't afford any extra trouble now, so she had to endure.
Fortunately, at that moment, Angela's mom, Heather White, came over. Heather looked at Elizabeth with even more disdain, almost sneering as she said, "Mira, let it go. Since she's willing to pay, she can attend the party. Ms. Spencer, see you at the party."
Elizabeth nodded, asking, "When and what time?"
"This Saturday, starting at 3 PM," Heather said.
"Alright! I'll be there on time." With that, Elizabeth turned and left, heading to the bus stop to catch the bus.
Behind her, Mira and Heather were disdainfully discussing Elizabeth.
"Look at her! We'll make her look foolish at the party!"
"She needs to know that our circle is not easy to get into!"
"Exactly!"
"Mira, her kid plays well with Susan. You can't let Susan play with her daughter!"
Mira was troubled, saying, "Susan and Alice cherish their friendship. I can't break it up, can I?"
Heather angrily said, "Let's not worry about the kids for now. We adults need to stand firm. We can't let our kids learn to be like those lowly poor people."
Mira respectfully said, "Understood, Mrs. White."
Meanwhile, Elizabeth took the bus to work. As soon as she got into the elevator, a few female colleagues were chatting. Although Elizabeth didn't know what they were talking about, she knew they were definitely talking about her.
Elizabeth didn't care, walking calmly out of the elevator towards her office.
As soon as she sat down, someone called out behind her, "Elizabeth, you actually dared to come in today?"
