Chapter 62 Waiting for Elizabeth

Alexander sneered, "You really think I'd get it on with you here?"

Elizabeth stayed quiet. She wasn't thinking that at all.

She just had no clue what he was gonna do with her, and it made her nervous. Running away wasn't on her mind either. After seeing how he dealt with folks a few days back, she knew he'd find her no matter where she went.

Unless she had some crazy detailed escape plan.

Since running wasn't an option, she figured she'd face him head-on.

At least Esme still needed her.

She decided to keep Alexander calm for now and figure out the rest later.

That was Elizabeth's plan.

Seeing her silence, Alexander's cold eyes bore into her as he continued, "First, you act all obedient and pitiful to get my trust, then you go after Clara? Your acting is top-tier. Clara's no match for you. Her jealousy is out in the open, just a girl's tantrum, but you, you're calculated and scheming!"

Elizabeth smirked and replied, "Yeah, since the last time I came back from the Windsor family dinner, I already told you, Mr. Windsor. I got close to Esme to seduce you. The baby in my belly is to tie you down. Didn't I already admit it? Tell me, Mr. Windsor, what part of my confession was unclear and needs more explaining?"

Alexander was silent. Her words left him speechless.

Elizabeth had indeed confessed, and it was after that he started treating her better.

After a pause, Alexander continued in a cold, deep voice, "Then you should remember what I told you?"

Elizabeth lowered her head and replied, "yes."

"If you remember, why'd you still try to frame Clara? Planning to use my power to take out her whole family. You think you can win my love, Elizabeth? I show you a little kindness, and you start acting out like this?"

Elizabeth kept her head down. She knew no matter how much she explained, clearing her name was a long shot. Plus, even if she wanted to explain, Alexander probably wouldn't listen, right?

The way he looked at Clara today was full of affection. Clara was carrying his child. For a guy like Alexander, who valued family, he'd definitely treat Clara well for the rest of his life.

Elizabeth could only blame Clara for having better luck, for meeting someone like Alexander who loved her. And her? She was nothing to Alexander. The harmony and warmth between Alexander and her in the past few days were just because he was in a good mood.

Elizabeth told herself, 'Elizabeth, don't bloom just because of a little warmth, don't fantasize.'

Raising her head, Elizabeth looked at Alexander calmly, "I don't want to explain. Wrong is wrong! I'll take responsibility. I'll move out immediately. I don't want any of the clothes you bought me, nor the computer. I'll move out right away. But don't worry, I'll still visit Esme. We still have a contract, don't we? I comfort Esme, and you give me money. That's all. If my actions towards Clara were because of your changed attitude towards me in the past few days, making me arrogant, then I promise I won't make such a mistake again."

After speaking, Elizabeth pushed Alexander aside and walked into her bedroom. In no time, she had packed her things and came out.

She didn't have much with her, just the shoes on her feet, a couple of changes of clothes, and some basic toiletries stuffed into a beat-up plastic bag.

Carrying that bag, Elizabeth didn't look back at Alexander or say goodbye. She vanished into the night fog. Alexander, though, stood by the blinds, watching her figure disappear downstairs.

She left so decisively, without a second thought.

He suddenly realized they had a lot in common.

Both Elizabeth and Alexander could be warm people, but when it came to making tough decisions, they were both incredibly solitary.

Elizabeth found a cheap motel for the night. While staying there, she felt most grateful to Owen, who always spoke harshly to her but was willing to help.

The $3,000 Owen lent her was used to buy a few meals for Esme and a small hot water bottle for Gavin.

Just two days ago, the night Alexander gave her the computer, she had ordered a small item online. But that item was still in transit, and the shipping address was Alexander's place.

It didn't matter.

That small item wasn't for her anyway.

Without the computer, Elizabeth couldn't fulfill her promise to her colleagues in the design department to work overtime and help them catch up on drafts. The next morning, Elizabeth planned to visit Esme early and then head to work, but when she arrived at the ICU, she realized she couldn't leave the hospital early.

Esme's fever persisted. Since it was the ICU, family members weren't allowed to stay overnight, so the hospital didn't notify Alexander. When Elizabeth arrived in the morning, the hospital informed her, "Mrs. Elizabeth Windsor, since Mrs. Esme Windsor saw the Windsor family members yesterday afternoon, her condition has deteriorated rapidly. We've tried everything to save her, but Mrs. Esme Windsor has lost the will to live, so..."

Elizabeth's eyes instantly reddened. Big tears fell.

Even though she knew Esme didn't have long to live, Elizabeth still didn't want her to pass away. She had no family left, not a single one. The only person in this world who treated her well and considered her family was Esme.

Elizabeth leaned over Esme's bed, wiping her forehead repeatedly, hoping to ease Esme's pain. Even though she was late for work, Elizabeth didn't leave until Alexander arrived. While the doctor was explaining Esme's condition to Alexander, Elizabeth quietly slipped out.

When she got to work, Elizabeth was already late. Plus, she hadn't done any of the work she was supposed to finish yesterday.

The entire design department looked at Elizabeth with sarcasm. Some even said directly to her face, "Elizabeth, you sure got cocky fast. We were just nice to you for a couple of days, and you forgot who you are! No drafts done, late for work, what are you doing!"

"I'm sorry, I'll start drawing right now." She respectfully addressed her senior colleague.

"No need! You can go do odd jobs at the construction site!" The senior colleague, who had the authority of a director, ordered, and Elizabeth had no choice but to comply.

Taking the bus to the construction site, as soon as she got off, Elizabeth saw someone standing ahead.

"Elizabeth, you made me wait so long for you here," Clara said with a smug smile.
