Chapter 180 The House Feels Cozy
Hearing Alice's childish laughter in the restaurant, along with Elizabeth's gentle, clean, and motherly smile, and Gavin's hearty laughter, Alexander suddenly felt that this large house he had lived in for many years finally had a warm atmosphere.
He was used to living alone; there wasn't even a servant in the house before.
Now, these few servants were specially hired to take care of Elizabeth and Alice.
After living alone for twenty years, Alexander suddenly felt that having a home wasn't so bad.
He quietly moved from the study to the dining room, seeing Elizabeth, Alice, and Gavin all gathered around Gavin's phone, looking at Clara's embarrassing photos.
Gavin was the first to see Alexander, with his smile frozen in fear, calling out, "Mr. Windsor."
"Aren't you leaving yet?" Alexander's tone was icy.
Gavin remained silent.
He had only been there for three minutes!
He immediately tried to please Alice, "Miss Windsor, you've seen the photos, I should be going now."
"No, I still want to see!" Alice pouted to say.
Gavin looked at Alexander, then at Alice, and finally at Elizabeth, asking, "Mrs. Windsor, could you give me a contact so I can send them to your phone?"
Elizabeth nodded, replying, "Sure."
Gavin and Elizabeth added each other on social media, and Gavin quickly sent Clara's embarrassing photos to Elizabeth before hastily leaving.
It was true that Alexander had let him into the house. But Alexander's temper was unpredictable; he could invite him in one moment and make things difficult for him the next.
Gavin was very glad he could run fast.
Once outside Alexander's house, he happily hummed a tune.
But something made him even happier. As soon as Gavin got into his car, he received a message from Elizabeth.
[Gavin, thank you.] Elizabeth's text included a warm smiley face.
Gavin excitedly replied: [I just showed you some photos, nothing to thank me for. It's what I should do.]
Elizabeth quickly responded: [Clara is someone I hate. Seeing her in such a sorry state today made me very happy. Thank you, Gavin.]
Gavin felt a warmth in his heart.
After six years, Elizabeth was still the same warm-hearted person. She was always grateful, even for the smallest help from others.
Such an Elizabeth was wonderful.
Such an Elizabeth would surely warm Alexander's lonely and cold heart in the future.
Gavin thought for a moment and added: [Mrs. Windsor, actually Mr. Windsor is very good to you and Miss Windsor. He has been surrounded by danger since he was young and is used to being alone. He is also a warm-hearted person. Many things, he doesn't say, or he says the opposite. But that's not what he really thinks.]
Gavin didn't know if Elizabeth could understand his explanation.
In his impression, Elizabeth was a perceptive woman, so she should understand, right?
However, Elizabeth didn't reply to Gavin's message.
She saw Gavin's message and understood his meaning. These past few days, she could feel that although Alexander had a fierce attitude and brought her back saying she had to sell herself to repay him, he didn't actually do that.
Not only did he remarry her, but he was also very good to Alice. Elizabeth understood all this.
But what about Samuel's exile?
And what about the assassination attempts on them over the years?
So, Elizabeth couldn't reply to Gavin.
She was conflicted, wrapping her heart tightly, taking one step at a time.
For now, her main focus was to do well in her new job.
After sending the text, Elizabeth helped Alice wash up, then changed both herself and Alice into loungewear. They returned to the living room, where Alexander was already sitting in loungewear.
The feeling of the three of them gathered in the living room was a bit strange.
Alexander and Alice didn't feel anything, but Elizabeth felt it was odd.
She swallowed and asked Alexander, "Alice offended Clara, I..."
"My daughter, I'll handle it. You don't need to worry!" Alexander said.
Elizabeth didn't know what to say next.
Fortunately, Mia brought dinner to the table.
The three of them sat together for dinner, with the atmosphere being quite warm, mainly because Alice, the adorable child, lightened the mood.
After dinner, Alexander played with Alice among the toys, and Elizabeth no longer worried about Alexander doing anything to Alice, feeling at ease preparing for work in the bedroom, and drawing some sketches. When she finished, she looked at her phone, seeing it was already ten o'clock at night.
Elizabeth hurried out, seeing Alexander just coming out of Alice's room.
"Is Alice asleep?"
"Did you sell the bracelet?"
Elizabeth and Alexander asked each other simultaneously.
Alexander immediately said, "I told her several stories to get her to sleep."
Elizabeth bit her lip, saying, "I didn't sell the bracelet. It was a keepsake from Aunt Esme, I wouldn't sell it."
Alexander said, "Good, as long as you didn't sell it."
He didn't press her further. That night, he didn't force her to do anything to help her sleep, even though she was prepared and somewhat looking forward to it.
He still didn't do anything to her.
He mainly considered that she was starting her new job the next day, not wanting to tire her out at night.
The next morning, because it was her first day at work, Elizabeth got up very early and carefully chose an outfit that was neither too flashy nor too shabby, relatively low-key, looking in the mirror and feeling very satisfied.
At breakfast, she told Alexander, "I won't go with you to take Alice to kindergarten. If I get off work early, I'll pick her up from kindergarten, and we can take the bus home together. If I get off work late..."
"Gavin will pick her up," Alexander said.
"Okay, I'm off to work." Elizabeth stood up.
"Bye, Mom," Alice said.
Alexander didn't even look at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth was used to it.
She was a person of few words, and he spoke even less than she did.
Carrying her bag, she breathed in the fresh morning air, feeling good. She walked to the bus stop, taking the bus.
An hour and a half later, she arrived at her workplace.
As soon as she entered the elevator, Elizabeth heard two women gossiping, "I heard that woman was caught again. Mr. Windsor won't let her off easily."
"The latest I heard is that Mr. Windsor brought that illegitimate daughter into The Windsor Manor yesterday. That illegitimate daughter is very naughty and made many guests angry yesterday."
Elizabeth remained silent.
