Chapter 49 You Really Hold a Grudge

Elizabeth suddenly looked up at Alexander, her face blushing bright red.

Alexander took the last bite of his sandwich, then got up and left without paying any attention to Elizabeth.

Elizabeth remained silent.

Gavin, who was standing nearby, suddenly approached Elizabeth and whispered, "Miss Spencer, you look even more beautiful when you're shy and flustered."

After saying that, he quickly followed Alexander out of the diner.

Elizabeth hastily finished her breakfast and followed them outside. When she got outside the diner, she didn't see Alexander's car and assumed he had left. She stood there alone, lost in thought.

Not far away, Alexander watched Elizabeth intently from his car.

She stood there like a lone leaf in the wind, her expression stubborn yet distant.

Moreover, Alexander saw a sense of lonely helplessness in her.

"Find out whose child she's pregnant with," Alexander suddenly said to Gavin.

Gavin replied, "Where should we start? If she doesn't say who the father is, it might be difficult..."

"The Guise family," Alexander said, "She lived with the Guise family for eight years. They know her past well. Start with them."

"Understood, Mr. Windsor. And about Clara..." Gavin hesitated, unsure why he brought up Clara.

Gavin could tell that Alexander didn't like Clara at all. In fact, he seemed to despise her. But because Clara had saved Alexander's life, he was obligated to marry her.

Alexander didn't respond to Gavin's comment about Clara and simply said, "Drive!"

Gavin breathed a sigh of relief.

As the car drove away, he glanced at Elizabeth standing at the diner's entrance through the rearview mirror. She was still standing there.

Gavin thought to himself ,'Elizabeth is still too immature to deal with Alexander.'

Whenever Alexander changed his approach with her, she would immediately become nervous and shy. After all, Elizabeth was just a young woman in her early twenties.

Elizabeth stood at the diner's entrance for a full ten minutes before taking the bus to work. When she arrived at the company, she reported to Sawyer, "Mr. Rivera, is there any artwork you need me to help with today?"

Sawyer greeted her with a smile. He beckoned, "Elizabeth, come here."

He got up, took Elizabeth's hand, and led her to the entrance of the design department's open office area. Then he clapped his hands twice.

"Attention, everyone!" Sawyer announced loudly, "From now on, no one in our department is allowed to assign Elizabeth any menial tasks. She is a designer just like all of you. If Elizabeth wants afternoon coffee, you will take turns getting it for her! Everyone will take turns!"

This announcement immediately drew gasps from the entire room.

Elizabeth felt uncomfortable right away.

Sawyer's high praise for her would surely make her the enemy of the entire design department.

She was about to explain something to Sawyer when he added, "Starting today, I'll be on a business trip for half a month. When I return, if I find out anyone has bullied Elizabeth, I won't let you off!"

Elizabeth remained silent, bewildered by the sudden turn of events.

She didn't understand what Sawyer meant.

Maybe Sawyer was just a straightforward person who spoke without thinking?

But Elizabeth knew that Sawyer's words would make her life in the design department even more difficult.

Elizabeth kept a calm expression, not looking at anyone.

She simply accepted the situation.

Even if she faced ridicule from her colleagues, at least she could still continue working there.

For her, nothing was more important than surviving and giving birth to her baby.

After Sawyer's announcement, he left for his business trip.

Elizabeth sat quietly at her desk.

"Elizabeth!" Marlowe Adams, a senior designer in the department, called out harshly.

"Miss Adams. If you have any tasks for me, please let me know, and I'll complete them," Elizabeth replied calmly and clearly, looking at Marlowe.

Marlowe was taken aback. "You..."

Elizabeth said nothing more, waiting for Marlowe to give her instructions.

Marlowe sneered and said, "Take these materials and samples I collected from the suppliers to the construction site and have the engineers review them personally! Mr. Rivera is on a business trip, and the company car cannot be used. So you'll need to carry these things and take the bus yourself!"

Elizabeth remained silent.

The construction samples included a small tile, a small bucket of silicone, catalogs, and various other items. Elizabeth looked at them and realized she would need a large plastic bag to carry everything.

Carrying these items on the bus?

Marlowe sneered at Elizabeth.

Elizabeth nodded and replied, "Okay, I'll go now."

She went to the storage room, got a large plastic bag, and started packing the items. Once everything was ready, she dragged the heavy bag out of the design department.

As soon as she left, her colleagues started mocking her, "What's so special about her? She thinks she's something just because Mr. Rivera favors her!"

Someone declared, "With Mr. Rivera gone, we'll make her life miserable!"

Another chimed in, "Don't make her life too miserable; we still need her to do the grunt work!"

Someone gossiped, "Did you hear? She's so poor that she works as a prostitute at night."

Another asked, "Really?"

Somebody remarked, "I heard she tries to seduce rich men, but it seems they don't really go for her."

One jeered, "If they did, what would happen to us glamorous ladies?"

Elizabeth dragged the large bag of samples and materials to the elevator amidst her colleagues' ridicule. She took the elevator down and dragged the bag to the bus stop.

The bus arrived quickly, but Elizabeth couldn't keep up. She had to run with the heavy bag to catch the bus. She barely made it, but the bag got stuck as the doors were closing.

"Hurry up! Don't cause a delay for the other passengers!" the driver said impatiently.

Elizabeth became even more anxious and pulled harder.

But she slipped and was about to fall backward.

Elizabeth felt a wave of despair, thinking that even though the bus only had two steps, falling would mean she would be at risk of losing her baby.

She thought in heart, 'Was this fate?'

Tears welled up in Elizabeth's eyes.

However, she didn't fall to the ground but into a strong pair of arms.

Elizabeth looked up and saw Owen's face, with his usual mischievous and playful smile.

"Mr. Tudor," she said in surprise. Elizabeth's face turned red from embarrassment, and she struggled to free herself from Owen.

Owen smirked and remarked, "Elizabeth, I didn't expect you to hold a grudge?"

Elizabeth replied, "What are you talking about, Mr. Tudor?"
