Chapter 64 Mom, I'm Here

"What plan?" Oliver asked Lila, raising an eyebrow.

Lila's eyes lit up with a smug grin. "Oh, we hit the jackpot this time. Clara's pregnancy is our ace, and Elizabeth's taken a hit with Alexander. But if we wanna use Alexander to get rid of Elizabeth, we gotta stir the pot a bit more."

"Do we really need to get rid of her?" Oliver shivered, sounding pretty bummed.

Lila shot him a fierce look. "Feeling sorry for Elizabeth now? Remember how she treated you! She wants us all dead. She's as nasty as her mom! Have you forgotten how her mom screwed you over? Elizabeth's just as bad!"

"If we hadn't played our cards right yesterday, making sure Alexander saw Elizabeth's true colors, she'd have snatched him from Clara in no time. Next, she'd come for our whole family. Oliver, have you thought about what will happen if Alexander finds out the truth? You think he'd let us off easy?" Lila pressed on.

Oliver stayed quiet, knowing Lila was right. If Alexander knew the truth, he'd definitely come for the whole Guise family.

Thinking about it, Oliver asked, "Alright, what's the plan?"

Lila grinned. "Yesterday's move worked like a charm. Alexander's already starting to hate Elizabeth. We just need to fan the flames, make him hate her even more. Hate her so much that even if Esme steps in, it won't matter."

She leaned in and whispered her plan to Oliver. After a few seconds of hesitation, Oliver said with a vicious edge, "Let's do it!"

Lila's face lit up with satisfaction.

"What about Clara?" Oliver asked.

"She's upstairs. Only two months pregnant and feeling crappy with morning sickness. Let her rest," Lila said.

Oliver sighed.

The phone rang, and Lila picked up the landline. "Hello, who is this?"

Alexander's deep voice came through. "Where's Clara?"

He didn't bother hiding his disdain for Lila. Even though the Guise family had helped him and Clara had saved his life, and now Clara was pregnant with his kid, Alexander still had no love for the Guise family. Maybe it was because they used to be tight with his enemies.

Hearing Alexander's voice, Lila straightened up. "Mr. Windsor, Clara's feeling a bit under the weather and resting upstairs. I'll get her to the phone right away."

Alexander's tone was ice-cold. "I'll call back later."

He had tried Clara's cell, but it was off, so he called the Guise family's landline. Ever since he found out Clara was pregnant with his kid, Alexander had been calling her twice a day, morning and night. This was the first time Clara's phone was off and she didn't pick up his call.

Clara had purposely turned off her phone, following Lila's advice. Lila always said, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder." She couldn't let Alexander reach her every time. If he couldn't get ahold of her now and then, he'd worry more.

And that meant Alexander would value her even more.

Lila hung up and headed upstairs to get Clara. "Clara, come down and wait for Mr. Windsor's call. He'll ring back soon," she said with a grin.

"Mom, your trick really works," Clara said, flashing a sweet smile.

Lila and Clara went downstairs together, but Oliver was sitting there with a sour look on his face.

"Dad, what's up?" Clara pouted at Oliver.

Oliver snapped, "What's up? You're still smiling! Mr. Windsor's all over you now, and his mom's getting worse. The day he marries you is just around the corner. But what about the kid in your belly!"

Clara stayed quiet.

"You've been pregnant for over two months, and your mom and I didn't even know whose kid is it!" Oliver roared.

Clara shrank into Lila's arms, tears streaming down her face. Oliver had never yelled at her like this before.

Lila also pointed a finger at Clara. "We've been so strict with you. You've always been a good kid. How could you get pregnant with someone else's child? And you didn't even tell us! Do you know how risky that is!"

Clara cried uncontrollably but still defended herself. "If it weren't for the kid in my belly, could we control Alexander? I think my kid came at the right time!"

"Whose kid is it!" Oliver roared again.

Clara shivered and said, "It's my ex-boyfriend's. He's from a wealthy family too. He ditched me and moved abroad with his family recently."

"I'll kill you!" Oliver said angrily, about to hit Clara.

At that moment, the phone rang again. Clara ran to answer it. "Hello," she said, her voice choked with sobs.

"What's wrong?" Alexander asked gently from the other end.

"I've just been feeling unwell since yesterday," Clara cried.

"Take good care of yourself. I'll come to see you after I finish here. Tell me what you want to eat, and I'll have someone bring it to you."

"I'm fine, Alexander. I know your mom is very ill these days. Take good care of her. I'm fine," Clara said sensibly.

"Okay," Alexander said and hung up.

Esme's condition was indeed not good. Since the Windsor family members visited Esme yesterday and acknowledged her, her condition had rapidly gone downhill. Right now, the doctor had given Esme the best medicine in the world, each injection costing tens of thousands of dollars.

But it could only temporarily ease Esme's pain. Once the medicine wore off, Esme would still be in a semi-comatose state with a high fever.

However, in her coma, Esme kept calling out, "Elizabeth, Elizabeth, Elizabeth."

Elizabeth rushed in from outside the ward and knelt by Esme's bed. "Mom, I'm here."
