Chapter 196 Let Me Tell You a Secret
"Can you drive?" Alexander, sitting in the car, asked.
Elizabeth was a bit puzzled but still answered, "No."
Gavin, sitting next to them, chimed in, "Mrs. Windsor, in this day, everyone has a driver's license. How come you don't?"
Despite Gavin's earlier worry that Alexander might fire him, he had already become quite familiar with Elizabeth in just one day. Gavin himself hadn't realized how fearless he had become lately.
However, Gavin's question left Elizabeth speechless.
As she sat in the car, Elizabeth's eyes still carried a hint of melancholy.
In situations like the ones she encountered at the company yesterday and today, any new employee might have quit the job out of frustration.
But not Elizabeth.
Since she was twelve and came to The Guise Villa, she had been subjected to such exclusion and bullying. If she had always thought about running away in anger, dropping out of school would have been the least of her problems.
She might have starved to death.
So, from a young age, solving the problem of food and clothing was Elizabeth's primary concern. She didn't dare to think about anything else.
Elizabeth had never even fantasized about having her own car one day.
So, she never thought about learning to drive.
She only remembered that when she and Clara were not yet eighteen, Clara already had her first car, a $500,000 sports car. At that time, she wasn't old enough to get a driver's license, so she could only drive around a nearby road that had no traffic to get a thrill.
One weekend, when Elizabeth was coming home from school to get her living expenses, she saw Clara, who wasn't good at driving, swerving and crashing all over the place.
As she crashed, she shouted, "Elizabeth! Are you dead? You see me driving, and you're still blocking my way. Wherever I drive, you run. Get out of my way!"
Elizabeth tried to dodge, but Clara drove in the same direction.
In the end, Elizabeth hid behind a tree, as Clara's car crashed into the tree.
Clara hit her head, bleeding.
Elizabeth was also injured.
As a result, Oliver and Lila punished Elizabeth together.
They said that if Clara hadn't been trying to avoid Elizabeth, she wouldn't have crashed into the tree.
Oliver's harshest words still echoed in Elizabeth's memory, "Next time you see Clara driving, just stand still!"
Elizabeth immediately asked, "Uncle Oliver, what if Clara hits me?"
Oliver said, "Then you deserve to die!"
Those were Oliver's words to Elizabeth.
During that time, Clara often drove around the house. One weekend, when Elizabeth came home and saw Clara driving at the entrance, she simply sat at the entrance, not moving forward. After a long time, Elizabeth fell asleep.
When she woke up, it was already past ten at night. She was hungry and cold. When she returned to The Guise Villa and knocked on the door for a long time, a servant finally came out to open the door for her, saying harshly, "It's you! You're so young and staying out late. What have you been doing outside? You smell terrible! Stay away from me!"
After saying that, the servant turned, going back to her room.
Elizabeth could only enter the courtyard of The Guise Villa but couldn't get inside the house. She knocked on the door for a long time, but no one came out to open it. The servant only yawned, shouting from her window, "You're so noisy! You should be punished for not coming home late at night."
That night, Elizabeth could only stay in the courtyard of The Guise Villa. She was cold and hungry. In the end, to avoid freezing to death, she curled up in the doghouse, spending the night there.
That was Elizabeth's treatment in the Guise family.
More than ten years having passed, it still brought tears to her eyes thinking about it.
As Elizabeth recalled this, the car kept moving forward. When she came back to her senses, she looked at Alexander in surprise, asking, "Where are you going? Aren't we picking up Alice?"
"Buying you a car," Alexander said calmly.
"I can't drive," Elizabeth stammered.
Alexander didn't look at Elizabeth, asking in a steady tone, "Were you born knowing how to walk?"
Gavin, sitting in the front, couldn't help but laugh.
He realized that ever since Alexander brought Elizabeth back from Collinsport, he had been constantly overwhelmed by their affection.
Moreover, Alexander's way was different from other men.
His ways were unique. On the surface, he seemed cold and indifferent, but his actions were sweet.
In this world, who else buying a car for the woman they love ask her such a question?
Only Alexander could.
Elizabeth lowered her head slightly, smiling, "No, I wasn't."
Then she added, "But you should wait until I get my driver's license first. Three months later, buying a car won't be too late."
In fact, she didn't want a car at all.
She didn't even have a job yet, having to continue job hunting tomorrow. What would she do with a car? Wouldn't she have to maintain it?
However, Elizabeth didn't dare to argue with Alexander.
Alexander didn't say anything more.
The car continued to move forward, arriving at a car dealership. Faced with a range of luxury cars, Elizabeth was dazzled, not knowing anything bout cars.
"This one!" Alexander said, pointing directly at a car.
Elizabeth didn't know what brand it was, but she saw the staff showing more respect to Alexander. After completing the paperwork, Alexander got into the new car, taking Elizabeth to the kindergarten.
Gavin, sitting behind, was silent.
Was this his dismissal notice?
Just as he was about to ask Alexander who had already driven off with Elizabeth.
They were half an hour late picking up Alice who was a bit upset. When she saw Elizabeth and Alexander, she didn't blame Elizabeth, just rolling her eyes at Alexander and saying, "Bad Daddy, were you too busy with work, so my mom had to wait for your car, right?"
Alexander didn't explain and just said, "It won't happen again."
Alice asked, "Why?"
"Because from now on, your mom will have her own car! She'll be responsible for picking you up. If she's late, it's not my problem!" Alexander said seriously.
Alice was overjoyed, asking, "Is that true? Did you buy my mom a car? Where is it? Take me to see it."
Saying that, Alice pulled Elizabeth, running outside.
When they reached the new car, Alice was even more excited. She circled the car several times and then grabbed Alexander's arm, making him squat down.
Alice whispered in his ear, "Bad Daddy, I have a secret to tell you."
