Chapter 77 Engaged to Alexander
"What did you just say?" Owen's smile froze, then he shot Elizabeth a playful look.
Elizabeth's eyes were steady and determined.
She had made up her mind to be honest with Owen, no matter what.
"I've been in prison for two years, you know that. It's a mess in there. I don't even know who the father of my child is. But Mr. Tudor, my mom's gone, and my closest Aunt Esme has also passed away. I have no family left. I just want to keep my baby."
"I know I'm not good enough for you. Mr. Tudor, I never expected you to marry me. You can end this whenever you want, and I won't ask for anything. I'm getting paid this month, and I'll return the three thousand dollars you lent me."
"I just want to be honest with you. If you don't accept me, I won't be surprised. I'll wish you well. If you ever need my help, I'd do anything for you, even if it costs me my life, Mr. Tudor."
"Stop talking!" Owen raised his hand to cut her off.
Elizabeth smiled calmly and said, "Mr. Tudor, if you don't accept—"
Owen interrupted her, "Damn it! You're pregnant, right? I'm not marrying you. What's so hard to accept? I'll accept you, so what's the problem?"
Elizabeth's face held a faint smile.
Owen was always like this, full of foul language, but she understood him somewhat. Despite his wild exterior, Owen was just a spoiled guy who had been pampered all his life, never having faced any real hardships, but with a relatively soft heart.
Elizabeth was used to Owen's various outrageous remarks.
Owen stood up, looked at her seriously, and then said, "I wasn't planning on coming today because there were some issues with the project, but considering today is our first date, I decided to come."
After saying that, Owen pulled out a chair and said, "I have to go. I'll come back to you after I handle the project."
Elizabeth remained silent.
She felt a complex mix of emotions.
She could sense that this was an excuse from Owen, and he probably wouldn't come back to her.
But she didn't care.
Deep down, Elizabeth didn't love Owen at all.
She only felt gratitude towards him.
Owen had already taken two steps away when he suddenly turned back and commanded Elizabeth, "Stay in your apartment and wait for me. I'll come back and deal with you after I finish the project!"
Elizabeth nodded with a smile and replied, "Okay, I'll wait for you."
She watched Owen leave the café, then sat alone for the entire afternoon.
Elizabeth didn't know if she felt melancholy or sadness.
Maybe after tonight, she would become Owen's lover. She didn't love Owen; She often thought of Alexander.
Why would she think of him?
During the month they spent together, he mostly doubted her, even though she took good care of his mother. He never showed any gratitude and almost killed her.
Elizabeth wondered why she would think of him.
She couldn't think of him!
She was a pregnant woman with a child whose father was unknown.
And he was probably about to get engaged and married to Clara.
Elizabeth forced herself not to think about him.
She spent the entire afternoon in the café, lost in thought.
She couldn't stop recalling Alexander in her mind.
She didn't notice that across from her booth, hidden by a pillar, Alexander was sitting with a cold expression.
He had seen her smile at Owen clearly. His hands clenched and unclenched involuntarily, his knuckles cracking.
Tomorrow was the day they had agreed to divorce. On the eve of their divorce, Alexander sat there, watching her and Owen being intimate.
Elizabeth sat there all afternoon without moving, and Alexander didn't move either.
In the evening, Elizabeth left the café, and Alexander followed. Once in the car, Gavin asked, "Mr. Windsor, I think I saw Miss Spencer coming out of the café just now?"
Gavin was sure it was Elizabeth.
Since Esme passed away, every time Gavin tried to talk to Elizabeth, she ignored him, so Gavin stopped trying to engage with Elizabeth.
Looking back, Gavin saw Alexander's face dark with anger.
Gavin almost blurted out, "Mr. Windsor, you're not being cheated on, are you? But that doesn't seem likely, right? Clara has been under your strict control; she doesn't even dare to leave the house. Could it be that you saw Miss Spencer betraying you at the café?"
Gavin only thought this to himself; he didn't dare say it out loud.
Alexander ordered with a dark face, "Let's go!"
"Yes, Mr. Windsor." Gavin drove away.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth returned to her apartment.
The apartment was the same one she had rented two months ago in a slum. She used to rent just a bed, but now she rented a small room of about 100 square feet for $200 a month.
The place was small, but Elizabeth felt comfortable living there.
It was her little home.
While she was tidying up, a shadow appeared at the door. Elizabeth turned and saw Clara standing there.
"What are you doing here?" Elizabeth felt extremely annoyed at the sight of Clara.
Members of the Guise family kept appearing around her.
Clara said smugly, "Elizabeth, I bet you wanted me to find you, right? Otherwise, you wouldn't have rented the same place. Since you chose to stay here, of course, I found you easily."
"What do you want?" Elizabeth asked.
"Can't I come without a reason? After all, you are the adopted daughter of the Guise family. You are my sister." Clara smiled smugly.
"Get to the point!" Elizabeth's patience was limited.
"Elizabeth, you crippled Wesley. He can't find you, but he found us!" Clara glared at Elizabeth.
Elizabeth laughed in anger and retorted, "What does Wesley finding you have to do with me? Are you trying to tell me that you instructed Wesley to publicly humiliate me and take me to a private room? Fine, I'll call the police right now!"
"You!" Clara was so angry she almost ground her teeth to dust. After a few seconds, she smiled again and said, "I'm not here because of Wesley. That old bastard has nothing to do with the Windsor family. I'm here to tell you that tomorrow, I'm having an engagement party with Alexander. Tomorrow, I'll become a member of the Windsor family."
Elizabeth couldn't help but take a step back and asked, "What?"
