Chapter 123 Is This Your Punishment for Me?
Elizabeth cried helplessly. "I won't run away anymore, never again."
Alexander sneered, then slowly lowered his head and kissed her.
What happened next was natural, the result of his six-year search.
It was also the destination her body and soul had been longing for over the past six years.
Later, Elizabeth fell asleep in Alexander's arms, but even in her sleep, her eyes still held crystal-clear, helpless tears.
With Alexander sitting up holding her, he brushed off the water droplets on his body, and casually took a large bath towel from the sink to wrap both himself and Elizabeth, carrying her out.
She slept deeply, her hands instinctively wrapping around his neck due to the instability, like a baby unconsciously seeking its mother's embrace, which appeared delicate and helpless.
Alexander dried her body and hair, gently placing her in the bed, and watching her sleep soundly, but he couldn't fall asleep.
He casually took a cigar from the bedside table, smoking it while watching her sleep.
Her skin was as delicate as it was six years ago, but her face seemed thinner and smaller now. Alexander even wondered if her cheeks were as small as half his palm.
Elizabeth's body was even more fragile, like a leaf.
What kind of life had she been living these past six years?
Halfway through the cigar, Alexander's phone rang.
He glanced at it; it was his father, Felix.
Six years ago, when Esme was gravely ill, Felix and his wife, Sierra Fisher, were abroad because Alexander had eliminated all their sons, causing Sierra to be heartbroken and go abroad to heal.
Felix followed her abroad to comfort her, only returning half a year later.
By then, Esme had been buried for four months.
Felix had repented, cried, and begged Alexander to move Esme's grave back to the Windsor family cemetery.
Alexander didn't agree, because his relationship with Felix was only superficially father and son.
Felix was very concerned about his marriage and often called him, but Alexander rarely visited him.
He didn't know why Felix was calling so late at this hour.
Alexander answered, very displeased, "What's up?"
"Alexander," Felix said earnestly on the other end, "the woman you brought back today..."
"What about her!" Alexander asked casually and extinguished the cigarette butt, then looking down at Elizabeth in his arms whose body stiffened slightly.
"I heard that six years ago in Sunwillow City, she tried to get close to you through Esme and caused trouble for many wealthy heirs," Felix asked tentatively.
Alexander's tone was extremely cold and impatient, "What are you trying to say?"
"Alexander," Sierra's voice suddenly came on the line, speaking cautiously, "I know I have no right to say anything to you. But after you left your grandfather's ward today, many people called your father. They said that you wouldn't let the woman off easily who you brought back. I also heard that she was the one who disrupted your engagement with the Guise family's daughter?"
Alexander's tone was very rude, "You really have no right to ask me that."
Sierra fell silent.
Felix shouted, "Alexander, how can you talk to Sierra like that!"
Alexander's tone was cold and hard, "Is there anything else? If not, I'm hanging up!"
Felix said angrily, "Oliver and his wife came to see us, saying the woman you brought back is a troublemaker and that she has a knack for bewitching people. Don't forget, Clara had a miscarriage because of you and was almost your wife. She's also Declan's beloved granddaughter. You can ignore others, but not Declan!"
"
Alexander remained silent.
Seeing Alexander not speaking, Felix continued, "Oliver said the woman you brought back is trouble and might try to bewitch you, but I know you better than that. You wouldn't fall for anyone's tricks. So, tell me the truth—did you bring her back to punish her?"
Alexander sneered, "So what if it is?"
Felix scolded, "Deal with her quickly! Didn't that exec from your aunt's company want to handle it today? Why didn't you let him? Your grandfather's not well; don't let him see her and get more upset!"
With that, Felix angrily hung up.
Usually, he didn't dare to lose his temper with Alexander like this, but today he took advantage of Marcus's influence to scold Alexander.
As Alexander put the phone back on the bedside table, he looked down and saw that Elizabeth had already opened her eyes.
However, her eyes were not looking at him but were half-lowered.
"Awake?" Alexander asked in a deep, magnetic voice.
Elizabeth said nothing, just keeping her head down.
"Did you hear the conversation just now?" Alexander asked again.
Elizabeth nodded, replying, "Yes."
Then she stammered, "I'm going to my room to get dressed. Can we talk after that?"
Alexander chuckled softly, his deep eyes unreadable. Elizabeth, feeling lost, curled up in his arms, looking pitiful.
Alexander lit another cigar.
In a moment, the whole bedroom was filled with the smell of the cigar.
Elizabeth liked the smell of his smoke, but she still didn't dare to look up.
It wasn't until Alexander finished the cigar that he suddenly sat up and then held her in his arms.
"Say what you have to say now," Alexander said.
Elizabeth remained silent.
"Speak!" Alexander requested.
Elizabeth had nowhere to put her hands, so she placed them on his chest. "You just started punishing me, right? And that bald, pot-bellied old man out of the hospital, he will be the next man I have to serve, right?"
At this point, Elizabeth suddenly choked up, "I just want to ask you, how many men do I have to serve before you'll let Alice go?"
Alexander frowned, his gaze sharp as he looked at Elizabeth, then asked, "What did you say?"
