Chapter 316 Dealing with Her
Cleo and Yara were both so embarrassed that they had nowhere to hide.
Their colleagues at the nearby tables looked at them with disdain.
Elizabeth, however, remained calm.
Earlier in the office, she hadn't noticed Cleo's strong perfume, but now she could smell it. Her nose was sensitive to strong scents.
"Mrs. Windsor, can't you give us a chance to turn over a new leaf?" Cleo's tone was aggrieved. "I know we were wrong before, but haven't we changed? I sincerely brought you coffee to apologize, and you won't even give us a chance?"
The closer Cleo got to Elizabeth, the more Elizabeth leaned away.
Cleo felt even more aggrieved. "Do you hate me that much? Even Harper, who wanted to hit you with her shoe, you forgave her and became friends with her. Why can't I?"
"Sorry!" Elizabeth interrupted Cleo's complaints.
Cleo fell silent.
Elizabeth got up and sat next to Harper, so she wouldn't have to smell Cleo's strong perfume, which made Cleo's eyes well up with tears.
But she didn't dare get angry at Elizabeth. Who would dare?
Even someone like Clara had to humble herself and take the blame.
Cleo could only back down and act obsequiously.
Seeing Cleo's red eyes, Elizabeth remained extremely calm. "Please don't make things difficult for me, okay? Harper wanted to hit me with her shoe, but that was when she didn't know who I was. Later, when she apologized and wanted to make amends, she still didn't know I was Alexander's wife. You're different. If I weren't Alexander's wife, would you bring me coffee to flatter me?"
Cleo and Yara were silent.
Elizabeth spoke with dignity, saying, "I never look for trouble. Whether Alexander is my husband or not, I wouldn't bully others. I'm just a designer here, and I just want to do my job well. You really don't need to waste your time on me. Please don't disturb me, okay?"
Cleo and Yara blushed with embarrassment, indeed having such thoughts.
Seeing that Elizabeth now had power as Alexander's wife, they wanted to curry favor and seek her support.
Elizabeth wasn't easily fooled.
Though she seemed weak, she had her own strong opinions and wasn't easily swayed.
Under the mocking and sneering of their colleagues, Cleo and Yara watched Elizabeth and Harper finish their meal and quietly leave.
Outside the cafeteria, Harper looked at Elizabeth with admiration. "Elizabeth, you're really amazing."
Elizabeth smiled proudly. "What's so amazing about me?"
"You don't need to put on a show to get people to submit."
"That's why, when I scared you and sent you to the hospital, it was easy. I didn't make a big fuss like you did. And I handled you all by myself," Elizabeth boasted.
Harper increasingly felt that being with Elizabeth, whether chatting or eating, was very relaxing.
Elizabeth laughed happily.
After a pause, she asked, "How are things with your parents? Are they still mad? Speaking of which, your parents being mad at you is partly because of me."
Harper's expression dimmed. "No, I don't want to compromise with them. I didn't do anything wrong. Since they're mad at me now, I just won't go back to provoke them. I'll wait until they calm down. It's okay, Elizabeth. Julia let me stay at her place. I have a place to live and a job to do. I think it's pretty good this way. They're my parents, and I won't blame them. I'll just wait until they calm down. Elizabeth, you'll be my role model from now on. I'll work seriously and be an honest person, with a clear conscience."
As Harper said this, she blushed and felt a bit shy.
This was related to her personality. Deep down, she was actually an insecure girl, especially when she was being suppressed by Elodie. She used to be arrogant to cover up her insecurity. Now that she suddenly realized her mistakes, she was left with only insecurity.
It was Elizabeth who ended up comforting Harper. "It's okay, you'll get better."
Harper nodded. "Thank you."
That afternoon, and for the next few days, Elizabeth's work returned to peace.
Clara didn't come to the company to bother her.
Elizabeth also had no news of Clara.
She knew very well that after Clara humiliated herself in front of her, she wouldn't just let it go when she got home.
But Elizabeth wasn't afraid.
Even if Clara didn't come to find her, she would definitely seek revenge on the Guise Family.
But not now; she had to go back to her hometown first.
In the past few days, no one in the office dared to say a bad word about Elizabeth, and tried to curry favor with her like Yara and Cleo did.
As a result, the work atmosphere improved a lot.
For a whole week, Alexander would wait for Elizabeth at the company entrance after work.
Previously, he would sit in the car inconspicuously, but now he stood at the company entrance, making his presence very noticeable. Colleagues who left work early would see him leaning lazily yet authoritatively against the car door and would respectfully nod and greet him, "Hello, Mr. Windsor."
"Mr. Windsor, here to pick up Mrs. Windsor again?"
"Mr. Windsor."
Julia and Harper, who were close to Elizabeth, couldn't help but tease her.
"Your good husband shows up on time, more punctual than going to work."
"Who would have thought that the formidable Mr. Windsor could be such a model husband? How can other men in Sunwillow City compete?"
Julia and Harper joked with Elizabeth.
When they reached Alexander, Julia and Harper said in unison, "Have a lovely candlelight dinner, just the two of you."
Hearing this, Elizabeth would blush.
"You don't have to come pick me up every day," Elizabeth said to Alexander as soon as she got in the car.
Alexander's tone was as cold and usual, "Ever since you started working here, I've always come to pick you up."
"But you used to sit in the car. Now you stand at the company entrance, which is so conspicuous. Don't do that anymore!" Elizabeth said firmly.
In the front seat, Gavin chuckled. As Alexander became more attentive to Elizabeth, Elizabeth's temper grew stronger.
In all of Sunwillow City, only Elizabeth dared to speak to Alexander in such a strong tone.
Alexander remained calm and silent.
Elizabeth fell silent.
After a few minutes, she suddenly realized the route was wrong. This direction wasn't towards the daycare.
Elizabeth stared blankly at Alexander.
Was he going to punish her just because she told him not to pick her up?
"Where are you taking me?" Elizabeth grabbed Alexander's arm and asked in panic.
