Chapter 353 A Major Discovery
Seeing Declan close his eyes, Elizabeth sighed softly.
Before she could speak, Simon, who was standing beside Julia, called out, "Elizabeth."
Elizabeth turned to look at Simon. "I know."
Simon remained silent. Elizabeth was a smart girl, and she wasn't aggressive. She had shown leniency to the Guise Family, so she probably wouldn't be too hard on Declan either.
To be honest, Simon actually hated Declan for all the injustices he had done to Elizabeth.
But seeing Declan utterly humiliated in public, Simon felt a pang of sympathy for him.
He looked at Elizabeth with pleading eyes.
Elizabeth turned to Declan. "Mr. Jones, I just want to tell you that I have never, ever offended you. I never intended to compete with Clara for anything. Even though I grew up without a father, I still have a mother who gave birth to me. I have the right to live, and the fact is, the more you oppressed me, the better I lived. Isn't that right?"
Declan remained silent.
At this moment, "ashamed" was an understatement for how he felt.
But Declan had lived a long life.
He had spent his life on the battlefield, seen all kinds of situations, and experienced all sorts of awkward moments. The composure he displayed now was far more stable than that of the Guise Family.
Declan finally spoke. "The victor takes it all. At this point, I have nothing more to say. I take full responsibility for my mistakes. Marcus apologized to you, and you didn't forgive him. I don't expect you to forgive me either, so I won't ask for your forgiveness. But I never owe anyone anything. Isn't Alexander planning to conquer that island? I will mobilize my troops to fully support him, unconditionally!"
Even now, Declan managed to maintain his dignity and say such words, which was quite admirable.
Elizabeth didn't know what to say in response.
At this moment, Alexander spoke up. "Thank you, Grandpa Jones, but I don't need it right now."
Alexander didn't need it. That was why he had never agreed to Declan's request.
Declan remained silent.
"You can go now," Elizabeth said again. "You saved Alexander's mother, who is my closest family. You also helped Samuel's family. So, our grudges are settled. As for who you want to recognize as your granddaughter, that's your freedom. As long as you think she can bring peace to your daughter's soul."
Declan could sense the implication in Elizabeth's words.
"What do you mean?" Declan asked.
"I mean, Clara is still your granddaughter," Elizabeth said, no longer looking at Declan.
"Grandpa, let me take you home," Simon said, supporting Declan.
Declan sighed and nodded.
After bidding farewell to Marcus, Declan, supported by Simon, apologized to everyone as he slowly left.
Overall, Declan was a man who dared to take responsibility. Even after such a huge disgrace, he could still bear the shame.
This kind of courage earned him the respect of the guests present.
Someone couldn't help but say, "Declan, the former warrior, is different. He can take it and let it go. He enjoys the respect of others and can also endure their humiliation. You have to admire that even in such a situation, he can remain unfazed. Truly admirable!"
"Don't you think Mrs. Windsor is very similar to Declan in this regard?"
"Yes! Mrs. Windsor can also take it and let it go. She enjoys respect and can endure humiliation."
Someone suddenly became thoughtful.
However, they were quickly silenced by a scream.
"Simon." The voice was urgent and desperate.
Simon, who had reached the door, turned around and saw Elodie standing where Clara had been.
At this moment, the lonely Elodie looked like a rat crossing the street.
Her eye sockets had sunken even deeper.
"You witch! You bullied my mom at the door, and why are you still here? Aren't you friends with that ugly woman? She left, but why haven't you?" Alice, hiding in Marcus's arms, asked unceremoniously.
Elodie remained silent, looking at Simon for help.
But Simon's sharp eyes looked at her with scrutiny and more disdain.
Elodie could feel that Simon no longer pitied her.
Her heart was once again enveloped by a sense of doom.
She called out again, "Simon."
"Don't call me!" Simon immediately refused.
Elodie's eyes turned red, and she reluctantly changed her address to Declan. "Grandpa Jones."
Declan, however, was considerate. "Elodie, you should apologize for your mistake. I made a mistake too, and you see, I'm apologizing. So you..."
Before he could finish, Elodie said, "Even if I apologize, they won't let me go. If they would, I would apologize now. I would kneel to Elizabeth as Clara did."
Declan remained silent.
At this moment, his feelings for Elodie almost vanished!
Right now, he was utterly disgusted by Elodie.
"Get out!" Elizabeth said with disgust.
Today was the day she, Alexander, and Alice were meeting their relatives and friends. She didn't want to have any conflicts on such a day.
Elodie scrambled out.
"Elodie," Harper called out, and then she gratefully looked at Elizabeth. "Elizabeth, thank you for sparing Elodie."
Elizabeth shook her head. "If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have spared her."
Harper felt a warmth in her heart. "I know, Elizabeth."
Meanwhile, Elodie didn't even look back at Harper. She ran faster than Declan and Simon. She ran from The Windsor Manor all the way to the gate, panting heavily.
She paused on the slope outside the gate, turning back, and revealing an extremely jealous look. "Harper, do you think you win?"
With that, she left without looking back.
Soon after, Declan and Simon also came out. Originally, Simon was supposed to have Julia as his date at this Windsor Manor family dinner, but now Simon was leaving, leaving Julia alone.
However, Julia didn't mind.
She could move around freely anyway. After all, Gavin was still there.
The hall returned to normal.
Elizabeth, Alexander, and Alice held hands, with Alice in the middle. Alexander spoke solemnly to the guests, "This is my wife, Elizabeth, and this is my daughter, Alice."
Just as he finished introducing them, Gavin suddenly arrived.
Gavin whispered something in Alexander's ear.
Alexander was taken aback and then asked, "Is the source reliable?"
