Chapter 199 Solving Major Issues
Elizabeth turned around, seeing that it was Robert.
"Mr. Lavien?" Elizabeth instinctively called out, "What are you doing here?"
Robert raised an eyebrow, asking, "This is a project our design company is handling. So, are you here representing the company to deal with this issue? Why did your design department send you?"
Elizabeth replied, "I'm sorry, I've already resigned. I'm here today looking for a job, happening to come across this problem. I can help you solve it."
Robert couldn't help but look Elizabeth up and down, asking, "You?"
Elizabeth nodded, replying firmly, "Yes."
Robert immediately said to the arguing technicians, "Alright, let her give it a try. Let's hear her plan."
After speaking, Robert once again looked Elizabeth over.
It having been a week since they last met, Elizabeth looked much better than she did a week ago. She seemed well-nourished, as her skin had a baby-like glow with a hint of rosiness. Despite not wearing makeup and dressing plainly, she looked increasingly beautiful.
Moreover, she claimed to have a solution to the problem.
Robert was becoming more and more interested in her.
By this time, Elizabeth had already put on a hard hat and walked down into the freshly dug foundation, squatting down and using a horizontal rod to demonstrate, "First, dig out some soil on both sides, just enough to place two concrete pillars. Fill the dug-out pits with concrete pillars, stand them up to support both sides, which will stabilize the top. Then, place a horizontal beam in the middle. Secure the beam, and wrap the rebar from above around this beam and anchor it to the ground. This way, the problem of the unstable floating foundation can be solved."
Elizabeth's explanation left the technicians on site stunned.
However, after listening to her detailed explanation, they also felt that this would definitely fix the original flaw. It would also save a lot of trouble.
Otherwise, with half of the foundation already laid, would they have to start over?
How much manpower and money would that waste?
Both teams of workers looked at Elizabeth, who had a calm expression and looked like a quiet student.
"Miss, you are an incredible talent. At your age, who else would be willing to work on a construction site? How did you gain such rich practical experience?" one of the technicians asked Elizabeth.
Elizabeth briefly replied, "Because I've always worked on construction sites."
"No wonder. It's rare to see such a hardworking young woman these days." The technician said.
"Indeed." The other agreed.
Robert, standing nearby, was also stunned.
He hadn't expected that such a difficult problem on a large construction site would be solved by Elizabeth. The way she solved the problem was both cool and beautiful.
Just as Robert was about to speak to Elizabeth, she said, "Excuse me, where is the HR department? I'm here to apply for a technician position."
"What!" Robert suddenly remembered that Elizabeth had said she had resigned. He couldn't wait to ask, "Elizabeth, why did you resign? Is our architectural design company's treatment not good enough?"
For the past week, Robert had been at his home in Paris. He had just flown into Sunwillow City this morning and heard over the phone that there was a problem at the construction site, rushing over and unexpectedly running into Elizabeth here.
He hadn't expected that Elizabeth was no longer working at the company.
Elizabeth shook her head, explaining, "I just don't want to work there anymore."
To be honest, she was reluctant to leave that job, as it was in the city and close to Alice's preschool. Now, this construction site, although it had an office, was about an hour and a half drive from Alexander's neighborhood.
"Why don't you want that job?" Robert asked Elizabeth, puzzled.
Elizabeth didn't want to explain further.
Just as Robert was about to call the company to inquire, Elizabeth's phone rang again. She looked at it, seeing that it was Anna, who had asked her to take a leave of absence.
Elizabeth immediately answered, her tone cold, "Sorry, I'm in the middle of a job interview. Do you have something urgent? Please be quick."
On the other end, Anna's slightly apologetic voice said, "Elizabeth, I didn't mean for you to resign a few days ago. I just wanted you to avoid some trouble. Harper's injury has healed, and she's back at work. Her anger has subsided. That's why I dared to call you and ask you to come back to work."
Elizabeth asked, "Really?"
Of course, it was a lie!
Anna was also troubled.
She didn't want Elizabeth to come back to work because, as a director, she also wanted to avoid trouble. But Anna never expected that after Harper's injury healed and she returned to the company, she would immediately demand that Elizabeth be brought back.
Everyone knew that Harper was determined to get revenge on Elizabeth.
But who dared to defy Harper?
If Anna wanted to keep her job at the company, she had to comply with Harper.
So, Anna reluctantly called Elizabeth again, saying, "Of course it's true. Why would I lie to you?"
Elizabeth still sounded skeptical, saying, "Harper really doesn't blame me anymore?"
"Miss Williams's anger has subsided," Anna said.
Elizabeth replied, "Alright, I'll come to work tomorrow then."
"No, come today. It's best if you come to work right now," Anna said. "You have no idea how busy Linda has been without you to proofread. She needs you. Please come over right away."
Elizabeth nodded, replying, "Alright, I'll take the bus. I should be there in about two hours."
As soon as she hung up, Robert grabbed her wrist, startling Elizabeth who asked, "Mr. Lavien, you..."
"Is Harper still giving you trouble? Did you resign because of her?" Robert asked.
Elizabeth remained silent.
"Get in the car!" Robert said.
Elizabeth asked, "Mr. Lavien, what do you mean?"
"I'm heading back to the company now. I'll give you a ride. Get in the car! Don't worry, no matter how unreliable I may seem, I won't do anything to you in the car! I need to go back to the company to handle this matter anyway!" Robert said quickly.
"Alright." Elizabeth agreed, thinking for a moment and finally getting into Robert's car.
Robert drove a sports car, as they sped down the road, reaching the company in just forty minutes.
Unexpectedly, it was Harper who was waiting to greet Robert at the company entrance.
Seeing Robert's car arrive, Harper immediately rushed over and shouted, "Mr. Lavien, you have no idea what has happened at the company these past few days."
Halfway through her sentence, she froze, then her face twisting with jealousy and anger, asking "Elizabeth, why are you in Mr. Lavien's car!"
