Chapter 205 Promoted to Linda's Boss

"What's wrong?" Elizabeth asked, not understanding why Julia was in a daze.

Julia shook her head, smiling, "Nothing, Elizabeth. You're the only one in the company who has retaliated against Harper and the first to refuse Mr. Lavien. But it's also the first time Mr. Lavien has invited a female employee to dinner. Who would have thought he'd be rejected on his first try? Elizabeth, you seem pretty honest. You don't look like someone who would do such things."

Julia and Elizabeth hit it off right away.

From the first time she met Elizabeth, Julia liked her, finding Elizabeth to be clean, straightforward, and not hypocritical.

Elizabeth also liked Julia quite a bit.

She had no friends. Since getting out of prison six years ago, she had always been scheming against others. No one had ever opened up to her like this.

Julia was the first.

So Elizabeth was very sincere with Julia, saying, "I just want to work well and have a stable income. If I didn't push that chair to Harper, I would have been the one to get hurt. No matter how honest I am, I can't just sit and wait for death, right?"

Julia nodded, agreeing, "Right."

After a pause, she asked, "By the way, Elizabeth, are you really not going to have dinner with Mr. Lavien?"

Elizabeth and Julia walked out of the elevator as they talked.

Elizabeth calmly said, "What's so great about it? I don't want to be friends with him, and I have no intention of marrying him. Having dinner with him would only attract countless enemies. Do I look like I have that much free time?"

Julia was amused by Elizabeth's words, saying, "Exactly. If you're not going, then I won't go either! A goddess must maintain her dignity!"

Then she whispered, "I hope playing hard to get will make Mr. Lavien like me. Although he isn't as powerful as Alexander, marrying him would still be a big deal. I've secretly dreamed about it."

Elizabeth was amused by Julia, whispering back, "I wish you the best in winning over Mr. Lavien."

Julia smiled, "Absolutely!"

Elizabeth and Julia entered the reception area, chatting and laughing. Before they parted, Julia said to Elizabeth, "Elizabeth, if Ms. Morgan asks you to stay, stay, please. I want to be colleagues with you."

"I'll consider it. After all, finding a job isn't easy, and the pay here is decent," Elizabeth said honestly.

She wasn't afraid of gossip. As long as she could keep working, the work environment didn't matter to her.

After parting with Julia, Elizabeth went to Anna's office.

"Elizabeth, come in and sit down," Anna said, with the attitude changing significantly from the previous days. "You just started a few days ago, and I wanted to let you get used to the environment before assigning you to work. But then Harper..."

"It's okay, Ms. Morgan. I'm here to ask about my $100,000," Elizabeth asked directly.

She was in desperate need of money, even unable to go back to her hometown to visit her mother's grave because she was broke.

Besides, she didn't feel obligated to help Linda solve her problems.

Anna was a sensible person, immediately saying, "How about this solution, Elizabeth? If you stay and work, I'll have Linda deduct $8,000 from her salary each month and give it to you. In a year, you'll have the full $100,000. How does that sound?"

Elizabeth calmly asked, "Ms. Morgan, do you really want me to stay and work?"

"Of course," Anna said enthusiastically. "I've seen your abilities. Not only are your drawings good, but I've also seen your problem-solving skills. If I don't keep someone like you, I'd be a fool. Elizabeth, if you stay, I won't treat you poorly. I'll even give you a $5,000 raise."

Elizabeth had originally planned to ask for a $2,000 raise, but $5,000 was beyond her expectations.

However, if she stayed, she wanted a better environment.

She spoke again, "That's fine, Ms. Morgan, but I have one condition. I don't want to be Linda's assistant anymore. I want to be her supervisor, reviewing all her designs. Is that okay?"

Elizabeth didn't want to be above Linda.

In her first couple of days at the company, while proofreading Linda's work, she found Linda's design techniques to be excellent and very different from her own.

Elizabeth wanted to learn from others.

And the best way to do that was to review all of Linda's designs.

Seeing Anna remain silent, Elizabeth quickly added, "I can forgo the $100,000. Since we're colleagues, we should help each other, so there's no need to talk about money."

"That's even better. I'll make Linda your assistant," Anna immediately said.

"Great, thank you," Elizabeth said with satisfaction. Then she respectfully asked Anna, "Ms. Morgan, should I go back to work now? Should I sit at my original desk?"

"No, you're now the lead designer. Switch desks with Linda. You take her desk. Go ahead, I'll call HR to inform them, and then I'll come over to help you settle in." Anna replied.

"Okay, Ms. Morgan, I'm heading over," Elizabeth said, leaving Anna's office.

As she approached the design department, she heard people gossiping about her.

To be precise, they were badmouthing her.

It was the same few women.

In the architecture design department, there were more men than women, the few women there always caused trouble.

They were complaining on behalf of Linda.

"I think Elizabeth is just kicking someone when they're down and extorting money!"

"Ms. Morgan thinks she has experience or something. Let's be clear, Elizabeth is just someone who spent a lot of time on construction sites. She has no talent as a designer. She's just a female construction worker!"

"I suspect that she may have employed some unsavory tactics to ensnare Mr. Lavien's affections. Originally, Mr. Lavien was going to invite Linda to dinner, but now he doesn't even look at Linda."

"Disgusting!"

"Elizabeth looks plain but is actually disgusting!"

"Can you say something nice? I think Elizabeth is great. She's honest and straightforward, helping Linda solve a big problem. You shouldn't talk about her like that," one male colleague couldn't stand it anymore, defending Elizabeth.

"I agree. Elizabeth is quite shy and obedient, very innocent."

"I feel the same. I like Elizabeth's type."

Hearing a group of male colleagues defend Elizabeth, Linda angrily slammed the table, saying, "If Elizabeth took my $100,000, she better not come back! If she shamelessly returns to work, I'll make her life miserable."

"Linda!" Elizabeth's calm voice came from behind, "Please pack up your things. This is my desk now."
