Chapter 21 Rescuing Elizabeth

Elizabeth let out a faint, cold laugh and rolled her eyes at Clara.

She thought, 'So what if I know?So what if I don't know?'

She had always known that the Guise family definitely knew who that man was; she also knew that the man was nothing more than a rival whom the Guise family wanted to kill, but they couldn't kill him openly. So they sent her to end his life.

Even if that man had died, it would be because of sex.

"No," Elizabeth said.

"You!" Clara raised her hand and slapped Elizabeth across the face again.

Then, Clara said impatiently, "Whether you want to know or not, you have to know. Today, I'm going to tell you the whole truth. I want you to understand everything before you die. Do you know why you stayed with the Guise family for eight years? Do you know why my mom and I hate you? Do you think it's just because you spent the Guise family's money? Elizabeth, haven't you ever thought there might be another reason?"

Elizabeth indeed raised her eyes to look at Clara.

She had always wanted to know why her mother sent her to live with the Guise family when she was twelve; why the Guise family agreed to take her in but then constantly ostracized and despised her.

And the cause of her mother's death, Elizabeth was desperate to know.

Clara's face twisted with a mix of malice and triumph as she looked at Elizabeth. "That's because you were originally..."

The warehouse door was suddenly slammed open.

Immediately, countless armed bodyguards with guns swarmed in, surrounding a man in a black trench coat, it was Alexander.

"Alexander?" Clara exclaimed, terrified.

The men Alexander brought quickly subdued the group of thugs who had kidnapped Elizabeth, each one groaning in pain.

Only Clara was so frightened that she couldn't speak.

Alexander approached Elizabeth, his face expressionless as he looked at her, tied to a pillar.

Elizabeth's face was originally pale, filled with sorrow and despair. But when she saw Alexander arrive with his men, her face immediately lit up with joy, slowly regaining color and warmth. Her eyelashes fluttered, and tears streamed down her face.

At that moment, she felt an indescribable emotion towards him.

It was a kind of dependence from being rescued.

With a face full of anger, Alexander untied Elizabeth. She collapsed immediately, and Alexander quickly caught her.

Holding Elizabeth in his arms, Alexander, with a cold and menacing expression, approached Clara. Without a word, he lifted his foot and was about to forcefully kick her.

Alexander was wearing steel-toed military boots, and his kick was swift and forceful. If it landed, Clara would be either dead or severely injured.

However, just as his foot was about to hit Clara, his cold, angry eyes met Clara's utterly desperate and aggrieved face.

His foot stopped, the tip just touching Clara's nose.

Lowering his foot, Alexander carried Elizabeth out, speaking in a low, indifferent tone, "Except for this woman, cut out everyone's tongues and break all their bones."

"Yes, Mr. Windsor!" they replied in unison. The subordinates watched as Alexander carried Elizabeth away.

Behind them were the wails and cries of the thugs as they were punished.

Elizabeth, terrified, nestled into Alexander's neck, trembling all over. She knew Alexander was ruthless, but she had never seen it firsthand. Today, she finally witnessed how merciless he could be.

However, those people deserved it.

There was nothing to pity.

On the contrary, she was almost tortured to death by Clara.

Slowly lifting her head, Elizabeth leaned on Alexander's shoulder, looking at Clara with innocent eyes.

Elizabeth was taken to the hospital. After an examination, the doctor said, "It's just soft tissue bruising, nothing serious."

Elizabeth breathed a sigh of relief, her extreme fear gradually subsiding. She had been kidnapped for several days and wondered how Esme was doing during that time.

"Mr. Windsor, thank you for saving me. How is Aunt Esme?" Elizabeth asked gratefully, looking at Alexander.

"It's terrible!" Alexander answered with frustration.

Elizabeth inquired, "What's wrong with Aunt Esme?"

"She's in the ICU," Alexander said expressionlessly.

Recently, Elizabeth had been going to the hospital every day to take care of Esme. Thus, Esme had gotten used to her presence. Yet suddenly Elizabeth disappeared which worsened Esme's condition, her already weak body nearly gave out.

Because of this, Alexander initially thought Elizabeth had stolen the bracelet and run away with the money. He planned to dismember her when he found her.

But he didn't expect that Elizabeth had been kidnapped by Clara.

"Aunt Esme is still alive, right? She's still alive?" Elizabeth grabbed Alexander's hand excitedly as she spoke, "Please, please take me to see Aunt Esme. I need to see her now."

Alexander took Elizabeth to the ICU. Through the glass, Elizabeth could see Esme covered in tubes, still unconscious.

Elizabeth's face was covered in tears.

She had no family left in this world. Esme was like family to her, and she hadn't realized how important she was to Esme. Because they couldn't easily find her, Esme's condition had worsened so severely from all the stress and worry she had for Elizabeth's safety.

"Aunt Esme, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, I'm sorry... Aunt Esme, you have to wake up, you have to wake up. Let me take care of you a little longer, okay? I have no family left. My mom is dead too, Aunt Esme..." Elizabeth cried uncontrollably.

Behind her, Alexander's assistant Gavin couldn't help but be moved by Elizabeth's sincerity. He remarked, "Mr. Windsor, after observing for some time, I don't think Miss Spencer has any ill intentions towards Mrs. Esme Windsor. I also investigated many of her former inmates, and they all said Miss Spencer had a good relationship with Mrs. Esme Windsor in prison. But..."

Gavin glanced at Alexander's expression and continued, "But Miss Guise, who would have thought that she could do such a thing. If you had been a step later, Miss Spencer might have been..."

Gavin stopped mid-sentence.

Alexander looked ahead expressionlessly. After a while, he said, "Investigate the relationship between Elizabeth and the Guise family."

"Yes, Mr. Windsor," Gavin took the order and left.

When Alexander turned around, Elizabeth was still crying outside the ICU, unwilling to leave.

At that moment, the doctor came out and said, "The patient is awake."

Elizabeth was stunned for a moment, then immediately rushed into the ICU, throwing herself at Esme's bedside, urgently calling, "Mom, Mom, Mom..."

Esme slowly opened her eyes. Seeing Elizabeth in front of her, she immediately exclaimed with joy, "Elizabeth, where did you go?"
