Chapter 136 I Look Down on You
Stuart just kicked everyone out. Anyone with half a brain wouldn't dare come back in.
Even if Stuart bullied someone to death in here, no one would interrupt.
So, who had the guts to come in now?
Stuart loomed over Josephine, his face buried in her neck.
Without looking up, he coldly said, "Get out!"
"Stuart." Jair's deep, steady voice cut through the tension.
Stuart snapped his head up. "Why are you here?"
Jair glanced at their position and shook his head. "What are you doing? You can't treat Josephine like this."
Josephine's eyes were red, either from anger or something else, looking desperate.
Stuart instinctively didn't want other men to see her like this.
He stayed put, shielding Josephine. "It's nothing; we need to talk. You should leave."
"Mr. Cook!" Josephine spoke up, "Call the police for me, please!"
"Josephine!" Stuart growled. "Shut up!"
"Stuart!" Jair grabbed Stuart's arm. "Let her go!"
"This is between us; stay out of it!" Stuart blocked him. "If you're my friend, leave now!"
"I'm stepping in because I'm your friend!" Jair said angrily. "How long are you going to be this stubborn?"
Stuart's eyes were bloodshot. "I'm not being stubborn. She insisted on getting a divorce and moving abroad."
Josephine said, "Then let's sit down and talk."
With the commotion, Josephine's face gradually returned to normal.
Stuart let her go, glaring at Jair. "Why are you here?"
Jair said, "Just passing by."
Stuart didn't buy it. "Stay out of my business with Josephine."
"I'm not interfering, but I can't ignore you bullying her." He looked at Josephine. "Are you okay?"
Josephine shook her head. "Thank you."
"Let's go," Jair said, "I'll take you home."
Stuart warned, "Josephine, if you leave this room today, don't regret what happens next!"
Josephine paused but didn't turn around.
"Stuart, if I were afraid of regret, I wouldn't be divorcing you. This is the last time—let's not have any more contact. If you're a man, don't come looking for me!"
She walked away without looking back.
Stuart moved to chase her, but Jair held him back. "What are you doing? You're divorced!"
"I'm not accepting it!" Stuart gritted his teeth. "I've never been humiliated like this!"
"Is dignity that important?" Jair asked. "Even if Josephine hates you, you still want to do this?"
Stuart shook his head. "You don't understand; she might just be acting out of spite."
"I don't see her acting out of spite," Jair said. "I heard she's going abroad. No one leaves for years out of spite."
"She's just acting out of spite!" Stuart insisted. "She likes me; you have no idea how much."
Jair was exasperated. "Stuart, you need to calm down. Feelings change. Even if she likes you, if you keep pushing, her feelings will fade."
"Then what should I do?" Stuart was almost frantic. "She's leaving!"
Jair asked, "Do you like Josephine? If you really like her..."
"I don't like her!" Stuart snapped back. "You know I have someone else in my heart."
"How can you say that so confidently? You married Josephine while loving someone else. Now she's divorcing you, and you still want to bother her? If you have someone else in your heart, go find that person. Why are you messing with Josephine?" Jair asked.
Stuart said, "It's different."
"What you're doing is really over the line," Jair said. "You're divorced; you have no relationship anymore. If you have someone else in your heart, go find that person. Stop harassing Josephine."
Stuart shouted, "You just don't understand!"
"I really don't understand what you're thinking." Jair shook his head. "But I think Josephine must hate and despise you."
Stuart retorted, "That's not true! Most women say one thing and mean another. She likes me, I can guarantee that!"
Jair said, "Fine, even if she likes you, what you're doing will only wear down her feelings. Stuart, if you want to win her back, try a different approach."
Stuart couldn't hear his advice.
In his view, Josephine clearly liked him but wanted a divorce, which was just her way of trying to get his attention.
Jair said, "I don't know why you're so stubborn, but I can see clearly. I can responsibly tell you, I don't see Josephine liking you. Stuart, honestly, if I were a woman and my husband was like this, I wouldn't just dislike him. I'd want to kill him."
Stuart frowned. "What do you mean you can see clearly? You don't know our situation at all."
Jair said, "I don't know your situation, but it's a fact that you have someone else in your heart and are ambiguous with Doris. No wife can tolerate such a husband. Put yourself in her shoes—if Josephine were ambiguous with someone else, could you stand it?"
Stuart shouted, "She wouldn't dare!"
Jair said, "See, you can't accept it, but you expect her to. And what you've done is worse than being ambiguous. Emotional infidelity is the worst."
Stuart wanted to retort, "But..."
Jair sighed. "No buts. I'll say it again, if you like someone, go find her. Josephine has had a hard time, let her go."
"She hasn't had a hard time." Stuart's eyes were bloodshot with anger. "Why are you always speaking up for her?"
Jair didn't want to deal with him anymore. "Calm down!"
"I'm very calm!" Stuart irritably waved his hand. "Leave, I don't want to see you!"
"Fine, I'll go," Jair said, "But don't think about bothering Josephine again. I'll handle the visa for her."
"You dare!" Stuart suddenly stepped forward and grabbed his collar. "I've always seen you as a big brother, but now, what do you mean by this? You and Josephine..."
Jair couldn't take it anymore and punched him.
After all, he had been in the military for years, and his combat skills were on par with Stuart's.
Now, Stuart was caught off guard and was knocked down by his punch.
Jair's eyes were full of anger. "How have you become like this? I'll say it one last time, if you like Josephine and want to reconcile, talk to her properly. If you don't have feelings for her, let her go. If you keep doing this, I won't respect you anymore!"
After saying that, he turned and left.
Stuart got up, wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth with his thumb.
He took out his phone and called Robin. "Arrange to meet Donna tomorrow."
