Chapter 559 What’s Wrong with This World

Isadora was taken aback. "What fiancé?"

She was stunned for a moment before she reacted. "You thought I had a fiancé? Is that why you rejected me?"

She laughed at herself, then looked at Ulysses. "If I had a fiancé, why would I say I like you! Do I have no morals at all? I am definitely single!"

Ulysses responded with an "oh."

"And then?" Isadora looked at him. "So, can you accept my confession now?"

Ulysses turned his face away: "We don't know each other well. Suddenly becoming a couple would be weird."

Isadora asked him: "Are you familiar with Charlotte?"

Ulysses immediately got angry. "You!"

He was furious and got up to leave.

Isadora watched him turn and leave, feeling a stabbing pain in her heart.

She had only mentioned Charlotte's name, and his reaction was so intense.

Did he really like Charlotte that much?

She had heard that Charlotte had plastic surgery, was vain, and fickle. Since the start of freshman year, she had already changed several boyfriends.

What did Ulysses like about her?

Isadora knew that Charlotte didn't fancy Ulysses.

Because Ulysses was poor.

Charlotte never dated poor guys.

But Isadora thought Charlotte had terrible taste.

In her eyes, Ulysses was excellent.

Not only was he academically outstanding, but he also had good character.

The key was that despite his family's poverty, he worked part-time and remained humble and respectful. He was really excellent.

Charlotte was truly blind. When looking for a boyfriend, shouldn't she look for someone with potential?

If she looked for a rich guy, he wouldn't stay with her for long.

However, Isadora was also grateful that Charlotte rejected Ulysses.

Otherwise, she wouldn't have had a chance.

But seeing Ulysses' attitude, she felt her own hopes were slim.

As she was feeling sad alone, she noticed a shadow falling in front of her.

Looking up, she saw Ulysses had returned.

She exclaimed in surprise: "Ulysses!"

"It's late, it's not safe for a girl to be out alone." Ulysses looked at her expressionlessly: "I'll walk you home."

Isadora's earlier joy had vanished.

She knew that Ulysses walking her home didn't mean he liked her.

Maybe if it were any other girl in front of him today, he would do the same.

That was just the kind of person he was.

Isadora liked this about him.

But she also hated this about him.

She wished that one day, Ulysses could be good only to her.

But clearly, that wasn't realistic.

Isadora obediently followed Ulysses back.

She didn't go back to her dorm but to her own house.

"Do you want to come in and sit for a while?"

Ulysses refused directly. "No. It's late, you should rest early."

Ulysses added, "Also, don't casually invite boys to your house."

Isadora said angrily, "Do you think I'm that kind of casual girl? I've only ever invited you!"

"Even I shouldn't." Ulysses said, "Girls need to learn to protect themselves."

After saying that, he left.

Isadora shouted after him, "Ulysses, I will definitely win you over!"

Ulysses had actually been pursued by many people.

He was outstanding even in high school.

Not to mention his grades, just his good looks and basketball skills attracted many girls' attention.

In college, many girls pursued him.

But he clearly rejected them all.

Girls were generally shy.

Once rejected, they wouldn't bother him again.

Some appeared in front of him two or three times, but seeing he was unmoved, they gave up.

Isadora seemed to be the first to be so persistent.

Ulysses went home on Friday night, and during dinner, he said: "During our school anniversary, Steven came, and he even greeted me."

At that time, Steven greeted Ulysses warmly and chatted for a bit.

Afterwards, classmates around him asked how he knew such a big shot.

A classmate nearby said, "I know, Ulysses, did you work at his company?"

After all, Ulysses was known for loving part-time jobs.

Ulysses smiled and didn't explain.

The people around him just assumed the classmate's explanation was correct.

After hearing Ulysses talk about this, Stuart said, "Ulysses, so your classmates now think you're very poor?"

Ulysses said, "That's almost a label on me. I never explained; they can think whatever they want."

Josephine laughed. "Are you planning to never contact your college classmates in the future?"

"No."

"Then, when you inherit the family business, how will you explain to your classmates?"

"Just say I won the lottery and got rich overnight?"

Gerald spoke up, "What family business is he inheriting? If he wants to do something, he has to work for it himself. There's no family business for him to inherit."

Nicole glared at him, not allowing him to talk about Ulysses like that. "Why not? If Ulysses wants to start a business, I'll give him the startup capital."

"Does he have a business mind?" Gerald said, "Aren't you afraid he'll lose it all?"

"As his father, Ulysses wants to do something, and you don't support him, but instead, you discourage him." Nicole said, "Ulysses, don't be afraid, I support you!"

Kathy said, "I support you too."

Josephine said, "And me."

Stuart also spoke up, "Josephine and I together."

"And me." Jeffery said, "I'll give all my pocket money to Ulysses."

Gerald was both amused and exasperated. "Are you all trying to isolate me?"

Ulysses said proudly, "See my charm?"

"What charm do you have?" Gerald aimed to deflate him. "Didn't you just get dumped?"

"Dad!"

Nicole couldn't help but tap him with her fork. "Say less."

Ulysses said, "I don't like her anymore. Besides, many girls at school like me."

"Really?" Gerald said, "Then bring one home for us to see."

"I won't." Ulysses said, "Dating is my own business. I'll date when I want to, why should I bring her home for you to see?"

"Ulysses, you are right." Nicole encouraged him. "No rush, wait until you meet someone you really like."

"He might like her, but the girl might not..."

This time, Kathy pinched Gerald.

Gerald immediately shut up.

After this interlude, the atmosphere returned to warmth and happiness.

After dinner, the family went out for a walk.

They met many neighbors on the way, and the older ones loved to talk about the younger generation.

"Ulysses, you're back?"

"Ulysses, do you have a girlfriend at school?"

"Ulysses, I know a very excellent girl, do you want me to introduce her to you?"

Ulysses felt that just over a year ago, when he was in high school, everyone around him was telling him not to date early.

How was it that just over a year later, these same people were now trying to introduce him to a girlfriend?

What was wrong with this world?

Ulysses didn't want to walk anymore.

He wanted to go back to sleep.
