Chapter 68 Seducing Others?
Josephine didn't want to pay him any attention and just responded with a simple "hmm."
"What are you going to do?" Stuart's stern face clearly showed his disapproval. He questioned, "Is there no one else at the hospital, that they have to send you?"
Josephine disagreed with his statement. She retorted, "Why can't I go?"
Stuart looked her up and down. He scoffed, "Delicate skin, pampered life. What can you do at a military base? Seduce others?"
"Stuart!" Josephine was furious, abruptly sitting up. She rebutted, "Just because you have no morals and are corrupt, doesn't mean everyone else is like you."
"Who are you calling corrupt?" Stuart asked.
Josephine's eyes were also filled with anger. She said, "I'm talking about you!"
Stuart was so angry he almost wanted to strangle her. He remarked, "Do you know what a military base is like? It's full of men! Men who would find even a sow attractive! Do you even know what you look like?"
Josephine gritted her teeth. She snapped back at him, "Yes, they are in closed training and can't see women. But they bear the responsibility of defending the country. They are loyal and brave, willing to sacrifice their lives for the nation and the people. In Mr. Haustia's eyes, all you see is someone's appearance. Just because you are that kind of person doesn't mean everyone else is, lustful and superficial."
Stuart had spent more time at the military base than the normal service period.
He knew very well the responsibilities a soldier carried.
He also knew the flaws of men.
He didn't want to say more, only emphasizing, "Tell the hospital to send someone else."
Josephine found him utterly unreasonable. She angrily exclaimed, "This is my job!"
"Job? The money you make in a year can't even buy a designer bag," Stuart said, "When we got married, I told you not to work. Did you listen?"
Josephine said, "Stuart, although I married you, I didn't sell myself to you. I still have my independence, and I can decide what to do. Besides, I like and respect my job; it's not something that can be measured by money."
Stuart sneered, "Dr. Kalmien, such high principles!"
Josephine didn't want to continue the conversation. She rebutted, "I don't interfere with you, so please don't meddle in my affairs."
"Fine." Stuart gritted his teeth. He said, "Just remember you are Mrs. Haustia of the Haustia family, and don't do anything outrageous!"
On the night of the Starlight Festival, it was supposed to be a time for family reunions and joy.
However, the atmosphere in the Haustia family was obviously not great.
Josephine and Andrew were fine, but Stuart kept a gloomy face, as if someone owed him money.
After dinner, he seemed to have completed a task and went out again.
At the club, Robin saw him and teased. He joked, "What's up with you? Your face is full of unmet desires."
Stuart silently sat on the sofa, his long legs crossed on the table.
Robin continued, "You said before that you were afraid a divorce would be hard to explain to Andrew. But there are ways around that."
Stuart opened his eyes and looked at him.
Robin said, "If you initiate the divorce, it wouldn't be appropriate. But if Josephine has issues herself and it gets to Andrew, he wouldn't protect her."
"What nonsense are you talking?" Stuart frowned at him.
Robin said, "It's a very reasonable suggestion. You should try it."
Stuart said, "Robin, you're usually smart. What's wrong with you lately? Grandpa treats Josephine like his own granddaughter. Your bad idea would only make him sad."
Robin was stunned. He asked, "But after all, you are Grandpa Haustia's grandson. Does he value her more than you?"
"No way," Stuart said, "Besides, if there's not enough evidence, Grandpa won't be easily convinced."
Robin remarked, "Stuart, if you really wanted to, Josephine wouldn't be able to explain herself. Or do you not want a divorce at all?"
Stuart impatiently said, "I came out to get some peace. Why are you talking so much?"
Robin was quiet for a few seconds and then spoke again, "Stuart, how long has it been since you contacted her?"
That "her" had no name, but both of them knew who he was talking about.
Stuart closed his eyes, frowning. He impatiently said, "If you really want to talk to someone, just go out and turn right. Don't bother me here."
Robin said, "I'm just reminding you not to forget your original intention. Fine, you rest. I'm leaving."
As soon as he left, he called Doris. Robin suggested, "Stuart is at the club alone. Come over and keep him company."
Doris arrived quickly, but when she tried to enter Stuart's room, she found it locked.
She knocked but got no response, called but no answer.
Doris had no choice but to wait outside for half an hour, sent Stuart a message, and then left.
The next morning, when Stuart opened his eyes, it was already past six.
The club suite had excellent soundproofing. He slept in the bedroom, leaving his phone in the living room.
When he picked up his phone, he knew that Doris had come by last night.
Looking at the time, it was eight o'clock; Josephine would be leaving the hospital for the military base soon.
After a few seconds of silence, Stuart called Doris. He said, "I fell asleep last night. Wait for me at home; I'll come pick you up."
Stuart put down his phone, ran on the treadmill for half an hour, then took a shower. Checking the time, he went downstairs to drive.
At the intersection, the light turned red.
Going straight would take him to Doris's place.
Turning right would take him to Clement Hospital.
The lane he was in allowed both straight and right turns.
When the light turned green, Stuart stepped on the gas and drove straight through the intersection.
At Clement Hospital, the medical staff held a simple farewell ceremony before leaving.
After the ceremony, a car was there to take them.
Before Josephine got in the car, Liam pulled her aside. He reminded her, "Take care of yourself. It's cold these days, and it's your period. Remember not to touch cold water."
Liam always remembered her period. Every month during these days, he would prepare some desserts for Josephine and bring them to the hospital for her.
Josephine had told him more than once not to do this, but he kept doing it.
"Got it," Josephine said, "Twenty days will pass quickly. It's not my first time going to a military base."
"It's different this time." Liam had several surgeries scheduled and couldn't go, otherwise he would have. He sternly advised, "In any case, be careful and take care of yourself."
He finished and ruffled Josephine's hair. He coyly said, "Don't make me worry."
Josephine stepped back and glared at him. She scolded, "So many people are watching!"
Liam said, "Who's watching? This is a blind spot; no one can see."
Liam didn't know that a low-key luxury car was parked not far away.
The man sitting inside was Stuart.
At the previous intersection, he had chosen to go straight.
However, at the next intersection, he couldn't resist and turned right.
He was staring intently at the hand Liam used to touch Josephine, wishing he could go over and chop it off!
Taking two deep breaths, he adjusted his expression, opened the door, and got out of the car.
