Chapter 222 It Was So Satisfying
Laura arrived and smiled as soon as she saw Josephine.
Josephine found her smile inexplicable and asked, "What's wrong?"
Laura said, "Guess who I saw."
"You went to the Bailey family," Josephine asked, "Robin?"
"Smart!" Laura said, "It was hilarious!"
Steven had temporarily taken Laura away from a dinner, giving Rex the opportunity to be alone with Josephine.
But Laura wasn't easily fooled.
Steven had arranged in advance to take her to meet Kimberly Harris, who was Robin's grandmother.
Before they saw Kimberly, they first saw Robin.
Robin was shocked to see Laura, not expecting that Laura actually knew Steven.
Then he felt disgusted, as Laura used to hang out with Josephine and often gave him a hard time.
He greeted Steven respectfully and then asked Josephine, "What are you doing here?"
Laura hated Robin the most and Stuart was the second.
"I come whenever I want, it's none of your business!" Laura retorted immediately.
Robin was furious and turned to complain to Steven, "Steven, look at her, she's so vulgar and rude!"
Steven spoke up from the side, "Behave yourself."
Robin was pleased. "Did you hear that? Watch your mouth!"
Laura raised an eyebrow.
Steven continued, "She's my girlfriend!"
Robin was stunned. He could hardly believe what he heard.
He thought, 'Steven, what did you say? How did Laura become your girlfriend?'
As Laura recounted the scene to Josephine, she laughed uncontrollably, "You should have seen the look on Robin's face! It was so satisfying!"
Josephine hated Robin the most around Stuart. Seeing Robin upset made her feel satisfied too.
After laughing and joking for a while, Laura brought up Stuart. "Is he still bothering you?"
Josephine said, "Ignore him, he'll lose interest in a few days."
"Josephine." Laura looked at her. "I need to tell you something. Stuart's feelings for you are probably real. After you left, he was hospitalized several times."
Josephine was puzzled. "Why was he hospitalized?"
Laura hadn't planned to say anything, but what had happened to Stuart wasn't a secret; many people knew.
Josephine would hear about it sooner or later.
Besides, Laura was most afraid that Stuart would use the same tactics, and Josephine wouldn't be able to handle it.
It was better to tell her now and give her a heads-up.
After hearing Laura out, Josephine was stunned for a moment.
When Josephine had planned to leave, she thought Stuart wouldn't be able to handle it but she hadn't expected Stuart to torment himself to the point of being hospitalized.
"Are you moved?" Laura asked her.
She snapped out of it and shook her head. "I'm not stupid. I can see that he's genuinely remorseful. But a broken heart can't be mended just like that."
Hearing this, Laura felt relieved. "That's good. Don't be soft-hearted and don't forget how he hurt you."
When Stuart tried to get close to Josephine again, he found Laura was also there.
Stuart had no fondness for Laura and knew she wouldn't have anything positive to say about him in front of Josephine.
With Laura around, he couldn't get close to Josephine.
He took out a small box and handed it over. "Josephine, this is for you."
Josephine didn't take it, asking, "What is it?"
Stuart said, "Andrew said you coughed a few times when you went to see him, so he asked me to bring this to you."
The temperature had dropped in the past few days, and Josephine had been running around, so her throat was a bit uncomfortable.
If it was something from Stuart, she definitely wouldn't take it. But if it was from Andrew, she couldn't refuse.
She took it. "I'll call Grandpa."
Laura, standing nearby, said, "Do you have anything else? If not, don't block the way!"
Josephine needed to go to the research institute, and Laura accompanied her.
Josephine had originally thought she would sign the contract and return to Auroravale City right after, but there was a problem at the research institute that required her help.
As a result, she had to stay in Celestia Springs for a few more days.
After a long day at the institute, she returned to the hotel just before dusk.
She ordered a meal, and when it arrived, she realized something was off. She called to ask, and they said it was prepared by Mr. Haustia.
Josephine didn't have the energy to argue; she was tired and starving.
But upon looking, she found that most of the food delivered was actually her favorites.
Stuart actually knew what she liked to eat?
If it were in the past, Josephine might have been pleasantly surprised.
But now she only felt it was ironic.
After eating, she washed up and was about to sleep when she heard a commotion at the door, followed by someone banging on it.
She was too weary to move and guessed it could either be Stuart or Rex, both of whom had been persistent lately.
Josephine didn't plan to respond.
Josephine, having noticed the loud banging and the aggressive shouting, was sure it wasn't Stuart—he would have rung the doorbell and been more polite.
Whoever it was, Josephine wasn't going to open the door.
When the person outside got no response, they seemed to leave.
But then, the banging resumed, accompanied by an urgent shout, "Is anyone in there? Open the door! If you don't, I'll kick it down!"
Josephine immediately sensed something was wrong. She thought, 'Why is it a girl's voice? And she sounds angry.'
Josephine walked to the door and asked, "Who are you looking for?"
The girl said angrily, "I'm looking for a bitch named Josephine!"
Josephine frowned, put on the security chain, and opened the door. "Who are you? How can you talk like that?"
She then saw a girl in a school uniform, looking about fifteen or sixteen, with a high ponytail and an angry expression.
Josephine was stunned for a moment, then she understood.
Judging by her age and appearance, she was probably Rex's daughter.
The girl shouted, "Are you Josephine? Open the door!"
Before Josephine could react, she heard a voice from the side.
Stuart said, "Who are you? What are you doing here? So young and already cursing, how did your parents raise you!"
Josephine peeked through the crack and saw it was Stuart.
He must have been staying next door and had come out when he heard the commotion.
Jessica Armstrong had heard that her dad was infatuated with a bad woman who wanted to become her stepmother and take over their family fortune.
Being in her teenage years, Jessica was particularly sensitive and suspicious of anyone she thought might deceive her father. Hearing this, she knew Rex might be deceived and couldn't sit still.
So she came over immediately.
But before Josephine could open the door, someone else was meddling.
She got even angrier and turned to snap back, "Mind your own..."
Before she could finish, she saw Stuart's face.
