Chapter 323 You Will Not Be Cherished
Josephine really didn't want to chat with Donna. Honestly, she didn't think there was anything worth talking about with her.
But since Donna was here, it was clear she wasn't planning on leaving anytime soon.
Just as Josephine was about to say something, Jeffery tugged on her sleeve. She turned to Donna and said, "Wait outside for a bit, I'll be right there."
After Donna left, Josephine looked at Jeffery, "What's up, kiddo?"
Jeffery asked, "Mommy, who is that lady?"
Josephine ruffled his hair and smiled, "Just someone I used to know."
"She seems kinda weird too."
"It's alright, I just need to have a quick chat with her."
"Does Stuart know her?"
Josephine paused for a moment before answering truthfully, "Yeah, he does."
"Got it. Go ahead, Mommy."
Josephine kissed him, "Alright, be good."
Donna wasn't waiting in the living room; she had stepped out into the hallway.
Josephine casually closed the door behind her and asked, "What do you want?"
Donna looked at her, barely able to hide the jealousy in her eyes.
After the incident, Robin had confined her to a secluded spot, leaving her struggling to eat or rest properly.
For Donna, accustomed to a life of luxury, this situation felt like a living nightmare. And knowing that the man she loved, Robin, loved Josephine more than her made her even more jealous.
Donna even speculated that Robin's harsh treatment was his form of retaliation for the kidnapping incident that triggered a chain of events, ultimately causing Josephine to leave. Unable to find Josephine, he took it out on her.
Robin even hired people to watch Donna, making it impossible for her to escape.
Until recently, Angela approached Donna and informed her that Robin had been sentenced.
Angela asked her if she wanted to get Robin out and take revenge on Stuart and Josephine.
Of course, Donna wanted that!
So, she came to find Josephine. As long as she did what Angela said, Angela could help her get Robin out. Then they could leave this place and live a sweet life together.
For Donna, this was her greatest hope.
Seeing Josephine filled her with both jealousy and anger. Why was Josephine so lucky? And what made Josephine better than her that Robin would fall for her?
If she could, Donna really wanted Josephine dead!
Josephine was Robin's first love, the one he couldn't have. As long as she was around, Robin's attention would never be on her.
But now was not the time.
Donna composed herself and said, "I heard you're going to forgive Stuart?"
Josephine didn't want to waste any more words on her, "That's my business, not yours."
Donna laughed, "After everything Stuart did to you, you can still forgive him?"
Josephine looked at her, "Is that what you came to say?"
"I'm just curious. Stuart did such disgusting things, do you think he can change just like that?"
"Well, thanks for the reminder. Anything else?"
Seeing Josephine's look of wanting her to leave, Donna continued, "I heard Stuart's father also left his mother because of an affair. It runs in Stuart's blood. Josephine, as a woman, I'm sharing this out of concern."
Josephine stayed quiet.
Donna kept going, "With your looks and smarts, you could have any guy. Why him? If he dumped you once, he could do it again. Men don't appreciate what comes too easily. What do you think you mean to him? Pathetic?"
"I don't think I'm pathetic. If I let other people's opinions control my choices, that would be pathetic."
"You're so naive. Look at Carol, she still hasn't forgiven Elbert, and he's on his best behavior, always hoping she'll come back. But you, you forgave him so easily. I'm telling you, a guy like that will never appreciate you."
"Should I thank you for the advice?"
"Think about what I said. Haven't you learned anything about men after being hurt?"
"Can I ask you something?" Josephine suddenly said.
"Go ahead."
"Do you still like Robin?"
Donna's face twisted, "That's my business. Whether I like him or not has nothing to do with you."
"Exactly, so what happens between Stuart and me has nothing to do with you."
"Josephine, do you think I want to meddle in your affairs? Yes, I have my own reasons. I don't like Stuart, and I don't want to see him get what he wants. But am I wrong? Stuart has a wandering eye; he can't be with you forever! Do you want to get hurt by him again?"
Before Josephine could respond, Donna continued, "If you want to be with him, no one can stop you. I've said my piece, think about it." With that, she turned and left.
Josephine closed her eyes, took a deep breath, and slowly exhaled. How to describe the feeling? It was akin to a toad landing on her foot—non-biting yet repulsive.
Josephine took a moment to gather herself outside before heading back in.
By the time Stuart rushed over, Donna was long gone. He didn't dare say that Jeffery had messaged him, so he just asked Josephine, "Are you okay?"
Josephine gave him a weird look, "Why wouldn't I be?"
Stuart said, "As long as you're okay. When you two are together, I always worry."
"What's there to worry about?" Josephine said, "The staff here used to be my colleagues."
Stuart responded with an "Oh."
Jeffery piped up, "Mommy, I want some fruit."
"Should I wash it?" Stuart offered.
"You sit," Josephine said. She took the fruit to the kitchen, and Stuart quickly turned to Jeffery, "Jeffery! What happened?"
Jeffery looked at him, "Didn't you say no strange ladies would come looking for Mommy?"
"Jeffery," Stuart felt a bit wronged, "It might not have anything to do with me."
"Well, I saw Mommy was unhappy," Jeffery said, "And that lady was weird!"
"I know," Stuart said, "I'll handle it."
"Really?"
"You doubt me?"
Jeffery said, "I can't stop it. Stuart, you did a lot of cool stuff before!"
Stuart felt embarrassed. Being called out by Jeffery like that made him feel awkward.
Just then, Josephine returned and asked, "What are you two talking about?"
