Chapter 316 The Other Party Is Typing
Laura was munching on snacks and said, "With his attitude, he's still chasing you? Forget about him, I'll introduce you to someone better!"
Laura never thought much of Claudia's ex-fiancé. Honestly, he wasn't good enough.
Admittedly, Laura had a knack for reading people.
"He had something come up," Josephine said after a moment. "Actually, he's in the hospital now."
Claudia was taken aback. "Hospital?"
Josephine explained that when Jair went abroad to find her, Claudia was pleasantly surprised. But when Jair didn't contact her later, Claudia started overthinking and got disappointed.
Now, hearing what Josephine said, she couldn't stay calm. "What's going on?"
Josephine didn't plan to hide it from her. It was still daytime abroad, and if Claudia left now, she could still make it to spend the Starlight Festival with Jair.
"He got injured. He was supposed to come find you, but now it's inconvenient. Do you want to go see him?"
Laura quickly asked, "Where is he hurt? It won't impact any important bodily functions, will it?"
Josephine was puzzled. "What functions?"
"All kinds of functions. There won't be any lasting effects, right?" Laura added, "Particularly, his sexual function."
"What's on your mind?" Josephine asked, "It's a simple injury, just needed some stitches, no internal damage."
"That's good." Laura was relieved. "Claudia, don't be too soft-hearted. Just because he's hurt, don't agree to everything. I'm telling you, make him chase you. If it's too easy, men don't know how to cherish it."
Claudia said, "I'm just going to visit him, you're overthinking it."
"Don't I know you?" Laura said, "Anyway, just listen to me."
Claudia had already started changing clothes. Josephine said, "Don't worry about it, Claudia knows what she's doing."
Claudia got ready and said into the camera, "I'll go over first, and let you know what's going on later."
She exited the chat, and Josephine said to Laura, "Let's not chat either. During the Starlight Festival, spend time with your family and Steven."
Laura lazily lay on the bed. "I don't want to be with anyone, just want to talk to you. How's Jeffery? Go check on him, make sure he doesn't have a fever again."
Jeffery had gone to bed early, possibly because his fever had relapsed.
Josephine felt his forehead and was relieved. "Not hot, he doesn't have a fever anymore."
They chatted for a long time, and Josephine urged her to hang up.
When she saw Stuart's message, it was already quite late. Not just Stuart, Roy and Rex had also sent her messages. As well as friends and colleagues she had met abroad before.
She replied to the others and hesitated when she opened Stuart's chat. She knew very well that Stuart was different to her. Otherwise, she could have just casually replied to his Starlight Festival greeting.
Just as she was about to type, she saw a line of text above the chat box: [The other party is typing...]
Curious about what Stuart wanted to say, she decided to wait and see what he would send.
After a few minutes, "The other party is typing" appeared and disappeared, but he never sent a message.
Josephine wondered, 'What is Stuart doing?'
She quickly realized that Stuart was probably just as conflicted and hesitant as she was, not knowing what to say.
At that moment, Josephine suddenly felt a bit empathetic and a bit sorry for Stuart.
She wasn't that magnanimous; everything she had experienced was excruciatingly painful for her. But time heals these wounds, especially with Jeffery, her life had always been fulfilling. After coming back to the country and having that heart-to-heart with Stuart, she finally put those nagging issues to rest.
This time, she didn't want to hold back her feelings. Whether it was liking or loving, she wanted to follow her heart. What's wrong with indulging once?
Stuart was still typing. For some reason, his behavior made Josephine find him kind of endearing.
She didn't hesitate anymore and typed: [You're still awake?]
Stuart was grappling with what to say, but every thought that crossed his mind felt off. He typed and erased, feeling the struggle. Just as he was wrestling with his thoughts, Josephine's message appeared, causing him to nearly drop his phone.
Josephine replied to him? She replied to him!
He quickly typed back: [I'm not asleep! You're not asleep either?]
After sending it, he felt like he was stating the obvious. He calmed himself down and typed: [How's Jeffery?]
Josephine replied: [Jeffery is asleep, no more fever.]
The weight on Stuart's heart lifted, and because of Josephine's reply, his heart softened.
He asked: [Did you have dinner? Was it good?]
Josephine replied: [Yes, it was delicious, thank you.]
Stuart: [No need to thank me. I want to come see you tomorrow.]
Stuart: [You must be exhausted taking care of Jeffery. I'll come to relieve you.]
Josephine: [I talked to the doctor, and I want to transfer Jeffery to another hospital tomorrow. It's a bit inconvenient here.]
Stuart quickly said: [Okay, I'll come pick you up.]
This time, Josephine didn't refuse: [Thank you.]
Stuart was happy but felt awkward because of her thanks.
Stuart: [Josephine, no need for formality. I should treat you well. I owe you.]
Josephine replied: [No debts here. We both made mistakes before.]
Stuart got anxious and wanted to call her. But he was afraid of disturbing Jeffery's rest.
So he continued typing: [No! It's all my fault!]
Even through the screen, Josephine could feel his urgency.
She replied: [Let's not talk about this, it's all in the past.]
Stuart quickly replied: [Okay. What do you want for breakfast tomorrow? I'll bring it over. The private chef made your favorite pizza and other food, is that okay?]
Josephine: [I'll grab a bite at the hospital, no need to rush over so early. We've got IVs and paperwork to wrap up, likely in the afternoon.]
Stuart replied: [I insist on coming in the morning. Grandpa's keen on it too. If I oversleep, he might playfully hit me with his cane.]
Josephine laughed. She thought about it and realized that from the time they met until now, they had never had such a harmonious conversation.
Before they got married, they were like arch-enemies and never talked. After marriage, their conversations were also generally tense, with simple replies. She didn't expect Stuart to have so much to say now.
Josephine didn't reply, and Stuart asked: [Are you sleepy? Going to bed?]
His words were cautious.
Josephine replied: [You should go to bed early too.]
Stuart thought for a moment and replied: [Angela is back. She even called me, but I don't plan to see her.]
Josephine was stunned. After a long time, she replied: [You don't have to tell me this. Whether you meet or not, just follow your own heart.]
Stuart immediately replied: [Not meeting! I don't want to see her at all!]
Josephine held back but couldn't help it, she replied: [After all, she was your first love.]
Stuart couldn't hold back either and called her.
Josephine glanced at Jeffery and quickly took her phone out of the ward.
