Chapter 478 Not Daring to Breathe

Moreover, Steven had been asking Stuart to go out for drinks every day these past few days, and Stuart actually went!

Stuart didn't want to go at first, but later, for some reason, he told Josephine that Steven was indeed quite pitiful. So he went, and for two consecutive days, Josephine was quite helpless about it.

Now that Laura has gone back, Josephine can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

That night, Stuart didn't go out. Before going to bed, he came out of the bathroom, and his phone rang. Josephine handed it to him.

He glanced at it casually; it was an unfamiliar number. Stuart took it and hung up directly.

"Why didn't you answer?"

"Probably a spam call," Stuart said. "Don't worry about it."

But as soon as he finished speaking, the phone rang again.

Stuart sat on the edge of the bed, and Josephine watched as he blocked the number.

She didn't think much of it, but who knew, the next second, her phone rang.

She picked it up and saw it was also an unfamiliar number, but it looked strangely familiar. It seemed to be the same number that had just called Stuart!

Josephine instinctively felt something was wrong. This shouldn't be a spam call, right? Otherwise, how would they know Stuart's number and hers too?

Stuart saw it too and looked a bit nervous. He took Josephine's phone, operated it for a bit, hung up the call, and blocked the number.

Josephine watched him and then asked, "No explanation?"

"Nothing to explain," Stuart said. "A small bankrupt company has been trying to plead with us these past two days. They probably got our numbers from somewhere."

With that explanation, Josephine didn't think much of it. But the next day, after Stuart went to the office, Josephine received another call.

It was still an unfamiliar number, and after three calls, Josephine answered the third one.

"Josephine!" As soon as the call connected, the person on the other end called her name.

Josephine was stunned and tentatively said, "Angela?"

The voice on the other end was hoarse and weary, and Josephine didn't recognize it at first.

"It's me!" Angela's voice was clearly filled with anger. "Josephine! You will die a horrible death!"

The last time they had contact, Angela had asked her to persuade Stuart to show mercy. Josephine wasn't a kind person. She had resentment and hatred towards this woman.

If Angela hadn't taken credit for her achievements and claimed to be Stuart's savior, maybe she and Stuart wouldn't have missed out on so many years. Now Angela was getting her comeuppance, and it was all her own doing.

Besides, Stuart hadn't completely ruined her. From their last meeting, Angela was wearing designer clothes, and the bag she carried was worth a lot. Although it couldn't compare to her previous life, her living conditions were still better than most people.

Now, out of nowhere, she called and cursed her. Josephine wasn't someone to be bullied. She directly said, "Angela, are you sick? If you're having an episode, go to a mental hospital. Don't go crazy here!"

"You're the one who's sick!" Angela said. "Stop pretending to be innocent! Stuart is going crazy looking for me. You can't say you don't know!"

"He's looking for you? For what?" Josephine chuckled. "To reminisce about old times?"

"Don't mock me like that!" Angela said. "Who knows what he's up to! I'm already like this, why won't he leave me alone!"

Josephine thought of Stuart's recent odd behavior. She had seen him more than once standing silently on the balcony, holding a cigarette, clearly wanting to smoke but not lighting it.

And a few times, he took calls, clearly avoiding her.

So, was he hiding something from her?

She directly asked Angela, "What did you do?"

Angela shouted, "What could I do! I'm already like this, what more could I do! Josephine, control your crazy husband!"

She was living a dark and fearful life, hiding and constantly on edge. Because Stuart was after her.

She even knew that Stuart wasn't unable to find her; he was enjoying the thrill of the hunt. Angela was going mad.

"I think you're the one who's crazy. If you didn't do anything, he wouldn't bother with you! Angela, I'll tell you this: what goes around comes around. Whatever you've done, you'll get your retribution! And don't call me again. Goodbye!" With that, Josephine hung up the phone. Then she blocked the number.

No need to think about it; last night's number was definitely from Angela too.

Josephine changed her clothes and prepared to go to the office to find Stuart. But when she got there, she found out he wasn't at the office.

She didn't call Stuart but instead called Ronald.

Ronald answered quickly.

Josephine directly asked, "Are you with Stuart? If you are, don't make a sound and take the call away from him."

Ronald glanced at Stuart and quietly left the meeting room before saying, "Mrs. Haustia, Mr. Haustia is in a meeting. Is there something you need?"

Josephine asked, "Where are you having the meeting? I came to the office, and he's not here."

"At the branch office downstairs," Ronald asked. "Are you coming?"

"Send me the location," Josephine said. "Do you have any plans for lunch? I want to have lunch with him."

Ronald said, "No plans."

After hanging up, Josephine quickly received the location. She rushed over, and it was almost eleven o'clock, just about lunchtime.

She entered the company lobby. The staff there didn't recognize her, and after asking her, she said she was waiting for someone. Then she quietly sat on the sofa in the lobby.

Stuart was still upstairs in the meeting, completely unaware that she had arrived.

Ronald watched the time pass, getting anxious, but he didn't dare remind Stuart.

Besides, Josephine had instructed him that she wanted to surprise Stuart and not to tell him she was there.

Eleven-thirty, twelve, twelve-thirty. The meeting was still ongoing.

Ronald was getting restless, afraid that Josephine would leave if she got tired of waiting. If Stuart found out, he would probably get angry.

Ronald thought about how to discreetly inform Josephine on his phone.

But during the meeting, he didn't dare openly look at his phone. He sneaked a glance at his phone, and just then, Stuart called his name.

"Ronald."

Ronald's body stiffened, and he quickly looked up. "Mr. Haustia."

Stuart's gaze was sharp, and his voice was cold. "What do you think of the report just now?"

What did he think? What was he supposed to think? As an assistant, he handled Stuart's matters, not the department reports. What was he supposed to think?

Just then, his phone vibrated. Seeing Stuart's increasingly stern expression, everyone around didn't dare to breathe. After all, no one had ever dared to look at their phone during a meeting before.

Ronald gritted his teeth and said, "Mr. Haustia, it's a call from Mrs. Haustia."
